“You did the right thing by calling me. I’ll be back at the pack in two days and I had already contacted the Council members because I wanted to meet them.”

Once Garrett is reassured, we hang up. I had asked the Council to meet with them, but it wasn’t scheduled this early and I didn’t tell David if I was going to be back in two days or not. I didn’t want to worry Garrett and sow discord within my pack but I don’t like David’s maneuvering.

I barely have time to get to Alex’s office when an alarm sounds. Adam and Aria rush out of the office.

“Aria go with Alex, he’ll get you to safety.” Adam then turns to me. “Some intruders have breached the perimeter, we’re going to try to take some prisoners for questioning.”

“I’ll follow you.” I tell him and run in his direction before more men join us.

A tall, tanned man arrives next to Adam and loads a rifle with silver bullets. I look at him with a raised eyebrow.

“It’s a low dose, enough to incapacitate them but not enough to kill them.” Then he adds. “Don’t worry, there won’t be any stray bullets. We all know who you are.” He gives me a smile and I see those fangs sticking out. Fucking vampires.

Everyone finds their place, I feel like I’m watching a ballet where everything is perfectly choreographed. They are clearly trained for this kind of situation.

“Try to take prisoners, I want us to try not to kill them.” He tells us through the mindlink.

“Wait how can I hear you?” I ask him.

“I think we’re linked by Aria. I can’t think of any other explanation. Let’s go!” He answers me and I don’t waste a second.

Even though I’m not part of their pack and I’ve never seen these wolves in my life, I know who’s part of the others and who’s not.

Just as I’m about to attack a wolf, he stops dead in front of me and turns back. Okay, this is really strange. A second one approaches and turns back when it seems to recognize me. I have a strange feeling.

After only a few minutes, Adam tells me through the mindlink that they have two prisoners and the others managed to escape.
