Chapter 36

**ROSALIE**

They did it, I’m sure, I feel it in me. Aria and I have become close and as a witch I am somehow connected to her. I didn’t want to freak her out but I feel her feelings more and more even though they aren’t always clear. They were, I’m sure, but her sense of completeness soon gave way to worry. I hope they are not in danger at the palace. I should call her or go there directly. Decision, decision. I’ll call her as soon as I finish my little concoction. There’s a knock on my door and I let my concoction marinate to go open the door.

“Hello Garrett.” I greet him as I open the door.

“Hi Rosalie. Can I come in?”

“Sure.” I let him in and he goes to sit on the couch uninvited.

He rubs his hands on his thighs and his right foot won’t stop moving. He is nervous.
When I enter the room, he stands up.

“I came to see you because I know your abilities and maybe you can help me. I called Austin this morning because I caught David asking for a Council meeting in two days. I had a funny feeling. I got Austin on the phone and he didn’t convince me. I don’t think he knew about this meeting.” He runs his hand through his hair while pacing. “Shit, I don’t think David is up to anything good. They were attacked there. Austin said he’d keep me posted on what he found out during the interrogations. Why me? Why did he call me? I’m just his Gamma. David is the one he’s supposed to call in these situations, not me.” He looks at me with a pause. “Do you see anything? Damn, we’re in trouble.”

“Relax. I don’t see anything, it doesn’t work like that but now I know why I had a funny feeling.” I reply. “Just do your job as usual. I’ll see what I can do on my end.”

“Ok thanks.” He tells me visibly relieved.

Once he left, I go back to my preparation. David, is there something you are not telling us? I don’t think so, but there’s definitely something going on.

Later that day, while visiting the pack doctor to give him my concoction, I run into Riley.

“Hey Riley! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”

“Hi. Yeah I’ve been pretty busy.” She touches her nose.

“I was going to drop this off at the doctor’s, you want to come along?” I ask her and she hesitates before answering me.

“Yeah, why not.”

“Have you talked to Aria lately?”

She fidgets with her fingers. “Not really. We’ve had a fight and she’s a total headcase.” She sighs. “She hasn’t talked to me again.”

“Maybe she’d want you to make the first move.”

She rolls her eyes. “Maybe.”

“I’m sure everything will work out between you.”

“Yes.” She responds by touching her nose. “I’ll try to call her later and apologize.” She touches her nose again.

She lets me into the doctor’s office alone. My little Riley, I don’t know what you’re hiding but you lied today.

**ADAM**

Austin and I are behind the tinted windows in one of our interrogation rooms. We both watch Fares conduct the interrogation. The young werewolf isn’t giving him any information yet, so Fares turns to face us and nods. He’s going to take the next step.

“What does that mean?” Austin asks me with his arms crossed.

“He’s going to start pushing him around a bit.” I answer him vaguely.

We both watch as Fares reaches into his small briefcase and pulls out a silver blade.

“Well you don’t want to talk so maybe this will make you talk.” Fares says to him as he brings the blade up to his left cheek. “Who sent you?”

The prisoner spits in his face and my commanding officer slashes his cheek with the blade. The youngster screams while pulling on those ties in his back.

“I’m going to attack every part of your body until you tell me what I want to hear!” He runs the blade across his right cheek making him scream again.

“I am from the Blue Moon Pack!” He yells and Fares takes a step back. “Our Alpha gave us the order to attack you but it didn’t come from him. I don’t know who it was but someone intervened. We were told that you were dangers to our species. That there were already three hybrids here and you were going to create more! This is unnatural!”

Fares turns around and I tap a short blow on the glass. That’s not all I was hoping for as an answer but I can see that he doesn’t know any better. Now we know in part who sent them. Fares removes his bonds and takes him back to his cell.

“What’s the plan now?” Austin asks me.

“We’re going to send a mediator to the Blue Moon Pack and try to find out more about this story and especially who’s behind it.” I sigh. “Now we know why you were lured here. We want to get rid of us and especially the possible offspring we might spawn.”

“Wow that’s very nicely put. Aria would certainly be flattered.” He runs a hand over his face. “We’re not going to tell her all this, it’ll freak her out and she’s already mad at herself for coming.”

“I agree with you.” I pat him on the back. “Let’s see if this second prisoner knows a little more.”

Fares enters with the second prisoner and the latter looks in the direction of the tinted glass, through which I know he cannot see anything.

“I’m not fucking telling you anything!” He pauses and Fares also stops. “I know what you are and I know what you want to do. FUCKING MONSTERS!!!”

Fares pushes him into the chair with another officer, a werewolf and they tie his hands behind his back and his legs to each leg of the chair. It is fixed to the floor and even with their strength, the werewolves cannot break their bonds. I tell the second officer by the mindlink to go straight to force. This individual has already made his point so I have no doubt that the easy way won’t work. Fares approaches his briefcase and as the officer is about to leave the room. The prisoner yells at him.

“YOU FUCKING TRAITOR! YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO OUR SPECIES!”

Without a glance in his direction, the officer snorts and exits, leaving him at Fares’ mercy.
