Chapter 29

I walked out of an empty practice room, the whole school looked deserted, it was also late at night, tomorrow was the audition and I had gotten carried away by practice and didn’t know that it had gotten this late.

Kate had left early to her tutor’s place and I was left alone again just as before. I clenched hold of my bag and hurried down the stairs, taking a short route to the exit. I had thought a lot of people would also stay over to practice but it seems everyone got tired and left.

The cold night air blew its gentle breeze on my face and It felt flushed. I glanced over my shoulder just to make sure I was safe. I didn’t know if I would find a bus, but I held enough money to board a taxi so I was not a bit worried.

I exhaled softly before putting on my headphones to keep all the negative thoughts away and made my way to the gate when a car I recognized so well drove over to me. I ignored the driver and kept walking forward but the loud horn made me halt.

“Get in!” He said in a domineering voice and I scoffed, who was he fooling with his get in shit?

“What?” I took off my headphones like I had not heard what he had just said and leaned close to the car.

He did not respond to me, instead, he came out of the car and came over to where I stood. I had to step backwards in safety just in case he wanted to strike me. “What are you listening to?” He asked me like a gentleman.

Who was he kidding with all this bullshit, where did the fierce and rude Robin go? I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was not dreaming,

“We are still close to school.” I reminded him just in case he forgot. He had always avoided me like a plague now why was he acting as he knows me.

“So what?” He lifts the corner of his brow and I was surprised to see a smile on his lips. Did Robin smile at me? This must be a dream.

“People may see you and me together.” I pointed from me to him and he glanced over his shoulder before turning back to me.

“Are we doing something wrong?” He leans close to my face with his hands across his chest. I had to move my head backwards to keep a distance between us. “Or, do you feel uncomfortable around me?” He stared at me intensely.

I chuckled. “Why should I?” I laughed at the guts of this boy in front of him. Now I could trace who his perfect match was, it is none other than Katherine, they are both so full of themselves, now I know why they said birds of the same feathers flock together.

“Then, what?” He pressed on while staring into my eyes with his penetrating gaze. I cleared my throat leaning forward which made him lean backwards, two can play this game, can’t they?

“I just thought you hate being seen with me?” I said honestly, he has always avoided me and brushed me off whenever I tried to talk to him. Lastly, he always drops me off on the way to school which makes me arrive late at school most of the time.

“Well, I have my reasons, but now I don’t mind.” He stood up straight. “Get into the car, let's go home.” He told me and got into the driver’s seat.

I contemplated for a while, was he waiting out here for me? What was he talking about? He doesn't mind anymore and what were his reasons for acting cold towards me all this while?

There was no way a devil could change in a few hours, I was not going to be fooled by him, I will have to stay alert, if he wants to toy with me then I would have to show him who the master of the game was.

“Hey, it’s late already and we are not in one of those fairytales you have in those little brains of yours, now get in, my mother is waiting for us.” He shouted from the car and I smirked.

Now that is the devil I know!

I got into the car, not because I wanted to, but because of his mother. I was only going to bend to his will this time because of his mother, then I would kick him to the crib. If this was a game then let the game begin.

I put on my seat belt and he drove off. I turned to him, choosing my words correctly this time before I spoke. “Do you mean I can now talk to you in school too?” It wasn’t as if we had a normal conversation at home to start with, but I needed a head start for the plan I had in my head, the idea Kate had unconsciously put into my head.

“What do you think?” He said almost coldly but it was less cold unlike his other words, this rascal was answering my questions with questions, how unprofessional.

I forced a smile while glaring at him, glad that he had his eyes on the road and couldn’t see me. “Tomorrow is the audition, what will you be singing?” I asked him, just to make sure.

“I haven’t decided on that yet, what about you?” He glanced at me before turning his eyes back on the road.

“Me too.” I heaved a sigh and leaned back to the seat as I looked out of the window. It was dark outside and the only thing giving light to the lonely road was the moonlight and stars. It was lovely and I wished we could stop by for a while to watch them twinkle.

The stars were just as blue as my eyes, but they look more beautiful to me, my father had always stared at the stares with me and told me he was glad that my eyes were like the stars, he told me he would stare into my eyes whenever there were no stars up in the sky. My father was lovely and I was very close to him.

“Why are you excited about the anniversary?” He asked me and I looked at him as if he was a moron, who wasn’t excited about the anniversary. I have even noticed Katherine practicing as her life depended on it.

“I think it will be cool.” I smiled, just picturing what tomorrow would be like makes my heart leap for joy.

“If you think so, but I would advise you not to get your hopes up,” I glanced over at him in curiosity, what was he saying this time? “You may not make it.” He looked at me and a smile escaped his lips.

“What?” I bite down my lips In anger, I just want to smack him right now on his face. How can he laugh while saying such discouraging words?

“Can’t you see it?” I raised my brows in curiosity waiting for him to continue his hate speech. “You haven’t even decided a song yet, you are so unserious, meanwhile there is Katherine Richard the best of all best.”

I rolled my eyes. “Now you just admitted you love her.”

“You!” He looked at me with a dark expression.

“I will prove you wrong, I will show you that I am better than Katherine.” I raised my chin boldly.

He scoffed. “Let’s see you try.”

It was obvious, his love for Katherine, he was not even using a singular, he was using a plural word for the both of them, now I was determined to do what Kate had said, this may be a bet, but to me, it was my revenge on both him and Katherine who are so full of themselves.
