Chapter 31

To my surprise, he handed me his guitar and I looked at it and glanced up at him with big eyes. “Go on in and do your best.” He flashed me a smile before letting go of my hands.

“I will.” I nodded at Hinn who was smiling at me and I followed him over to the audition hall and ran into the hall climbing up on the stage and I saw Kate who seemed to have been buying time for me smile and I grinned back before turning my eyes to the judges and the handsome director.

“I am Ivana Kimbuersy.” I introduced myself as I bowed and my eyes met that of the director and he looked down at his file and then back to me.

“I am sorry to say this but you have just missed your chance.” He told me and looked over at the door. “Next.” He called out.

“Sir,” Kate said out loud as she stepped close to me. “You said it is only if the next person completes their performance, but she was right here before I even tried to start my performance so she still has a go right?” she said with a smile and I watched the director lean back to his chair like he was contemplating before nodding his head.

"Okay." I beam, Kate was not only a friend she was the best if it hadn't been for her, but I would also have missed my chance.

"I did my best to buy you some time to get here and I am glad you made it. All the best Ivana." Kate smiles.

"Thank you, Kate." She nodded as she ran off the stage.

"Begin!" I heard the director's deep voice. He looks handsome and gentle, but he was domineering.

I picked up the guitar Robin had given to me, this was a guitar I recently started looking at whenever they play at the daily bar and I loved it, right now I was holding onto the guitar, of truth, it looks like one of the great musicians had lent me their favourite instrument and I was overjoyed in my hearts as I strike the string and begin my song.

As I sang I kept my eyes open to see the reaction on the judge's faces, the director's face was the only reaction I couldn't read, maybe all director's should have a poker face in order not to give anything anyway.

My eyes flicker to the entrance of the hall as I play my song, to my greatest surprise Robin was there watching me, I took my eyes off him immediately, my head asking questions of why he was here?

Recently I didn’t understand him anymore. First, he acted cold to me, then he drove me to school without stopping me a few blocks from the mansion, next he lent me his guitar and told me to do my best.

I shook my head to keep my focus on the song I was performing, it doesn't matter, he must be playing a game with me right now, but I still have to tell him I was an expert in that game and I won't let him make fun of me.

It was just casual words, he would change, he would act cool with me and then he would suddenly act cold to me, just like the devil who tempts you with sweetness and later feeds on your flesh.

I didn’t glance back to the entrance of the hall, I won't let myself fall for his evil sweetness. I was thinking about something else and I was singing something else yet the two emotions seemed to match, it seems like my thoughts were made for the song.

Well, this was my dream, this was the steps I have to take to get there. I noticed the director leaning close to the desk, his hands on his chin and the other hand scribbling something on the note on his desk.

There were other directors and judges here, but I paid more attention to Director Donald, he was the one going to make this Anniversary a success.

"Thank you," Director Donald looked down at a file and then back at me as I ended the song. "Ivana Kimbuersy." He glanced no more at me and turned to the entrance of the hall. "Next please!" He called out.

Since this was the end of my performance, I picked up my guitar and left the hall as Kate went in for her performance.

I met Robin outside and handed him his guitar. "Thank you for lending this to me, I guess I did my best." Within me, I felt like I was too distracted with thoughts and had messed the song up, but another part of me told me otherwise.

"You should be lucky you had your chance," Robin said coldly as he examined his guitar. Was he thinking I broke it with just one play or what?

"What about you?" I immediately asked as his words registered in my head.

"Nothing." He turned around without giving me a second glance as he strolled off.

"You sang beautifully, Ivana." Hinn came over to me with a smile on his lips.

"Thank you," I told him with my eyes still in the direction Robin went. "Hinn, did Robin miss his chance?" I asked, it wouldn't be nice if I get to perform and Robin doesn't. It was because of me we had to come late.

"Chance?" Hinn asked as if I had said something unexpected. "No, he is going to prepare for his performance, he will be next after two others."

"That jerk!" I shouted and Hinn raised his brows, I made an awkward chuckle and turned my eyes at Hinn. "I thought I had made him lose his chance, I wouldn't have forgiven myself." My voice was low this time.

"You truly value Robin, don't you?" Hinn said with a smile.

"Huh!" I exclaimed, Hinn had said the most hilarious thing ever, why would I value that monster? "I better go," I told Hinn and walked away.

On my way out of the hallway I happened to pass by an empty room, there I saw Katherine and Robin saying something I couldn't hear from where I stood.

I scoffed, of course, he hadn't watched me because I sang well, he was only watching me when I sang because he wanted to know if I sang better than Katherine, or perhaps if I would destroy his guitar in the process.

Katherine had sung before we arrived, he could be angry at me because I made him lose the chance of seeing Katherine sing. Now I know why he was in a hurry to leave after taking his guitar from me, it was to see Katherine.

It was frustrating seeing I couldn't hear what they were saying, I had better stop being a peeping tom.

I was about to leave when I stopped in shock, my eyes dilated and I felt a wave of rising anger as I fixed my eyes on Robin and Katherine who were kissing each other.

What the heck!
