Chapter 30

I paced around my room listening to some music tracks I happened to find, I was still deciding on what to sing, it was absurd that I hadn't gotten a song and it was the audition day today. Kate had called me earlier today and told me she was changing her music, she said she wouldn’t be singing any love song for Robin, that she was finally stopping her one-sided love.

I was already dressed in a blue dress, I let my hair fall down my shoulders and applied light makeup. I was ready for this audition, but there was no song to sing. Kate had promised to lend me her guitar since I would be performing first before her.

I had practised some tunes with her guitar and had written a lot of songs with it, but now all seems to be falling apart as Robin had said. I was sure Katherine was not making this tough decision as I was right now.

I heard a knock on my room door and glanced over my shoulder. I know it must be Mrs Jane, she was the only one who knocked on my room door anyways.

“Yes, please come in,” I called out as I sat down in order not to make her worry about me since I have not found a song up until now. She had also been aware of the audition, thankfully she was also a music lover.

The door opened and the heavy footstep I heard made me turn to see who it was, I was sure it wasn’t Mrs Jane, to my surprise Robin was in her, dressed in a black jean, a white top and a black leather jacket, he was looking handsome and if Kate set her eyes on him I admit she will fall in love with him over again.

“Aren’t you ready yet?” He asked me with a tender voice that sounded so odd to my ear. Sure enough, he was acting again since his mother was at home. He was trying to be the good boy while enacting his crazy plan. I had it all figured out.

I turned back to my music note as my eyelashes fluttered up and down. “I am done, but I won’t go,” I muttered as I leaned on my desk, my chin on my hand and my eyes staring down at my book.

“Why not?” He asked me as he moved over to where I sat, he sat on the desk facing me with those penetrating gaze of his staring at me like a lovers eyes, What the fuck is his deal?

“I don’t have any songs to sing for the audition.” I lean back to my seat, taking my eyes off him already aware of the mocking gaze in his eyes, he was about to say something annoying.

“Two weeks of preparation and yet you don’t have a song, it makes me wonder what you and Hinn Carlos had been practising all these while for, could it be you both had been doing something forbidden all these while?” He touched his chin with a mocking smile on his lips.

I wanted to attack him but stopped since I could tell he was trying to piss me off. I won’t let him have the satisfaction he wants. “All the ones I have aren’t cool,” I told him.

He glanced down at my notes before getting up from the desk. “Well… We have one hour before the audition starts so I hope you decide until then, that is all the time we have to stay here.” He turned to walk out of the door.

“Just go ahead and don’t wait for me,” I called out, there was no point in waiting for me, he was just an asshole and he cared less if I lost or won this audition.

Robin looked at me with a dark expression. “I would love to leave you here, but my mother is persistent,” He tilts his head to the side. “You have made my mother so fond of you which means I can’t go without you, so you should come downstairs before an hour.”

He held the doorknob to leave and I had an idea. “Robin.” I called out and he looked at me, “Can you help me?” I said softly as I blinked my eyes hoping he would agree to help.

He tugs his hands into his pocket and gazes at me for a while. “Help you in what?” He lifts his brow, I smirked at least I have his attention and what more his mother is at home so he wouldn’t like an ass.

“Listen to this song.”

Just at the moment, I got my hopes that he would agree, he smirked. “I don’t want to,” He scoffed. “I will only listen to you when I want to.”

Huh! That was my line.

I rolled my eyes. “Is this payback time?” I asked him and an evil smile spread through his face. Devils don’t smile sweetly to angels they only smile that way to their fellow devils, this was why Robin smiles cutely to Katherine and not at me.

“Be out before an hour, if you make me miss this audition you would pay bitterly for it.” His eyes shone with evil before he walked out of the room taking his bad energy with him.

“Annoying.” I shuddered and turned back to my note, maybe I should just miss this audition and make him miss it too, that way we both would be on the losing side. I shook that thought off my head, I was not going to miss this for anything.

I came downstairs and Mrs Jane who had been spacing around rushed over to me. “Oh Ivana, you are going to miss the audition if you don’t hurry.” She looked at me all over with her tender gaze.

“Are you done deciding?” Robin, who was sitting down on the sofa, got up and looked at me. I sneered in my heart. He should just stop the act and let his mother see him for what he is.

“Yes.” I looked at the tender eyes of Mrs Jane. These eyes always remind me of my parents' eyes. I had spoken with them a few days ago and they told me they truly miss me. I promised to go over once I was free from school activities.

“But, I think the audition is coming to an end already,” I told them. I took more than an hour to decide on what to sing and was sure my time had passed and the drive to school was going to end before we got there.

“We better hurry up,” Robin said with gritted teeth as he picked up his phone and car keys. “Let’s go.” He walked out of the house.

“Ivana do your best okay.” Mrs Jane called out.

“I will, thank you.” I waved her goodbye and hurried out of the door to catch up with the grumpy Robin.

We both got into the car and he drove off, I glanced at my wristwatch, I only have fifteen minutes to get to school for my audition and if Robin drops me off at the usual place I have to make a run to the bus stop and would be getting to school in fifty minutes, I had already missed my audition. I sighed.

“Don’t worry I won’t drop you at the usual place.” I heard his voice and immediately turned to look at him as he continued. “Not anymore.” My lips parted in shock.

I inhaled and exhaled before speaking. “W-why did you suddenly change, unlike before?” Was I only hoping he would change?

He smiled and turned his eyes at me with twinkles in it, this was not right. “I want to start treating you nice.” He winked at me and I scoffed.

“I am speechless,” I said sarcastically and looked away. “Just drive fast else we would miss the audition,” I ordered him as I pointed on the road.

He scoffed. “And whose fault is that?” He said with a stern voice, of course, this was the devil I know. I didn’t want to speak with him anymore so I put on my headphones and leaned back to the chair, closing my eyes. It was better not to see his despicable face too.

We got to school and Hinn who saw us hurried over to us, he glanced at me and Robin before speaking. “Ivana, you have to hurry inside, they haven't called you for quite a long.” He told me and I looked at my wristwatch.

“I have missed my chance already,” I said downcasted. I should have been here five minutes earlier.

“We are not so sure about that, now you should hurry in,” Hinn told me and I nodded and turned to go with him but Robin held my hands and I looked up at him curiously.

To my surprise, he handed me his guitar and I looked at it and glanced up at him with big eyes. “Go on in and do your best.” He flashed me a smile before letting go of my hands.

Have the devil's truly changed? I asked myself in my head and stared at Robin whose lips were curled up in a smile and for a moment I noticed he was not smiling at me evilly, rather this was a genuine smile.

What was his deal?
