Chapter 27
Athena's Point of View
I have no idea how they brought me inside the room. All I could remember, they covered my mouth with a handkerchief and then everything went black. I just woke up realizing my hands and my legs were tied with a metallic leash.
I was inside of an empty room with no windows. The only thing that I could see was the light and the door. I was aiming to reach the door, but my body was still too weak to move. My hands and my legs were tied with a leash and it's hard for me to move. I don't have anything to break this leash. They took my weapons away and even now, I have no idea who did this to me.
After a couple of minutes, I noticed the door opened wide. There were people entering the room that made my brows furrowed. I have no idea who they are, but the woman in the middle caught my eye. She looks familiar to me.
“It is good to know that you're already awake, Athena.”
She uttered which made me grit my teeth. I don't remember her name, but her face looks familiar to me.
“Who the hell are you and what am I doing here?”
I asked her. The woman smirked. She went in my direction and then gripped my chin. Her face was too close to me.
“I know you couldn't remember my face, but let me tell you a story…”
She paused, and I started to feel uncomfortable about her. I have this feeling that I know this girl. I could feel it, but I couldn't tell where.
“We have already encountered each other before. It's a hunter versus hunter. We were still young at that time. We were both raised by the Smith family. We were trained together, but we have different beliefs and goals in life.”
She continued, and now I know. I could remember what exactly happened before and of how we met.
“What are you doing here, Xyra? Everyone thought that you're dead. Our poster parents told us,”
Xyra smirked from what I uttered. Yes, I already remember her name because of her story. I was able to recall what exactly happened before.
“That's a lie because I am not dead and look at me now? I came back to get my revenge.”
Xyra was blazing in anger. I understand where that anger came from. She was dispatched by the Smith family because of what she did. Xyra is an evil hunter. She tried to kill the head of the hunters when we were young. She's a traitor. She's selfish because she wants to rule all the hunters by herself. In short, she's manipulative, evil and a traitor.
“You made a mistake, Xyra and you are aware of the consequences. Death is the penalty. You've proven guilty which became the reason why they wanted to dispatch you.”
I started to explain it to her, but she shook her head.
“No, Athena. I did nothing at all, but it doesn't matter. It's useless to explain myself because no one would listen to me. I was already blinded with my anger and revenge. I am back because I want to kill all of you, including you.”
Xyra uttered that made me sigh. I feel saddened toward Xyra. I really don't agree with what the Smith family was about to do to her. However, I couldn't stop thinking about how she escaped from her death. We are convinced by the Smith that Xyra was dead, but why is she still alive?
How did she escape from them?
“You don't have to do that, Xyra. Please don't allow yourself to be blinded with anger. You are a hunter, and we don't kill each other. Our goal is to protect the mundane from the evil creatures and not to fight each other.”
Xyra is still shaking her head. She didn't believe in me and I know why. It's hard to convince her now, but I will do my best. I won't allow her to succeed in her plans.
“It's too late, Athena. You can't convince me anymore because no one can ever change my mind. I will do what I want to do, and you can't stop me. Killing you would be my greatest achievement. I just can't believe that we will be able to be captured in the woods.”
A deep sigh escaped from my throat because of what Xyra had told me. The way she looked at me, I know she's mad. I know I can't change what she wants now. All I needed to do was to do my best to escape from her. I don't want to die.
People are still needing me. I am not done with my mission yet. I haven't found my real parents, so I shouldn't die at this point. I have to think of other ways to escape from her.
“I know we are not that close before because you hated me, but I hope you remembered how I protected you from your bullies before. I used to be your defender, Xyra.”
Xyra's eyes widened from what I uttered. She was thinking about what I mentioned. However, her allies speak to her.
“Don't ever believe in her, Xyra. She was trying to brainwash you. Athena was the most prominent hunter of this town. If you let her live, you cannot get what you want. You can't be the most powerful hunter when she is still here.”
I gritted my teeth because of what her ally had told her. Xyra glared at me which made me sighed.
“That's not true, Xyra. I don't even care about that position because all I want is to serve people who are needing my help. I have no plans to become the most powerful hunter.”
I tried to explain my side, but Xyra doesn't believe me. She tightened her grip to my chin that made me grimaced in pain.
“Who the hell did you fool, Athena? Do you think I will believe you, huh?”
Xyra exclaimed, and then she did something to me that made me frown in too much pain. I just can't imagine the person doing this to me was also a hunter like me.
