Chapter 11.

"Is that her?"

Ruhn asked as he barged into his brother's office and Hunt sighed.

"Good morning to you too Ruhn. Yes, that's her.."

His eyebrows widened as he collapsed on the couch in Hunt's office.

"She looks so much like Lila. It's disturbing."

Hunt nodded in agreement.

Yes, he had gotten the shock of his life the first day he saw her. He thought he had seen a ghost or something else.

"Well, I told you she did. Now, what are you here for?"

He asked with a stern look and Ruhn shrugged.

"You know I wouldn't be here unless it was important right?"

He asked and Hunt nodded.

"Yes, I know how much you detest this place. Now will you tell me what's going on?"

He pressed and Ruhn nodded.

"It's Suna. They found more bodies."

Hunt's eyes widenened as he looked at his brother with an unbelievable expression on his face.

"Are they the same? Do the match the first body?"

Ruhn nodded grimly.

"That's not even the worst part."

"What? What else happened?"

His brother ran a hand through his hair on frustration.

"They were werewolves Hunt. That's the worst part."

"Fuck!"

"Where's Suna? Get her on the phone now!"

Hunt clumsily reached for his phone but Ruhn was still seated rolling his eyes.

"She's with Dad right now. They're trying to keep everything down, so the City Council doesn't know about it."

"But what the hell is going on? Does she have any clues yet? Who could be doing this?"

Ruhn shrugged.

"It's weird. I don't understand. First it was humans now it's werewolves. You think it's an attack?"

Hung scoffed? An attack? For what?

"Attack? I don't know. What else do I need to know?"

Ruhn looked hesitant to talk, but Hunt was determined to make his brother spit out every bit of information he had.

"I should warn you... Suna managed to connect the cases with Lila's."

Hunt frowned at his brother.

"I don't understand... I thought it was the same with the one at the beach."

"Yes, similar in a lots of ways. but don't forget the body at the beach was human. Lila's and the others were werewolves."

"What are you trying to say Ruhn?"

Hunt asked impatiently and Ruhn shrughed.

"We're dealing with a Supernatural here brother. One we haven't worked with yet. In humans, autopsy reports show complete blood loss and nothing else. But in supernaturals, it's worse."

Hunt picked up Lila's autopsy report and briefly went through it. He had gone through it before, but most of the words didn't make sense to him, because it didn't add up.

"Cause of death : Not certain. Victim suffered hypovolemic shock even though there were no distinct puncture wounds or injuries. Also possible suffocation since her windpipe had been crushed despite no bruises."

He read out and looked at his brother with a question in his expression.

Ruhn shrugged.

"Trust me, that sounds pretty similar to what Suna dug up."

"Who do you think is doing this? Could it be Aidas Vladimir?"

Hunt asked and Ruhn scoffed.

Adidas Vladimir may be the King of the Night Court and one of the strongest vampire in the city, but Ruhn was pretty confident that wasn't his style of killing, nor would he kill wolves even if he had a problem with them.

"You're reaching. Aidas Vladimir? Sure he might know who did it since he's familiar in the underground world but I doubt he'd risk being mayor just to settle whatever petty score he has with your or those werewolves who died."

"And rumour has it that he wants that Mayor position even more than you. I highly doubt he'd ruin that chance."

His brother added and Hunt growled.

"We have to go. Talk to Suna. Talk to Dad. Figure out a way to clean up this mess."

Hunt stood up and picked his shit jacket, his brother Ruhn stood up from the couch too, glancing outside the glass to catch a glimpse of Candy.

"Are you sure what's happening has nothing to do with her?"

He asked suspiciously.

"Candy? She's harmless."

"Yea. Harmless and happens to look like the exact replica of your mate who comes from a powerful werewolf family. To think she shows up a few days after a year's anniversary of Lila's death?"

Hunt rubbed at his face. He was already exhausted and it wasn't even noon yet.

"I don't know what you're getting at Ruhn. Let's drop that topic for now."

"Okay. if you say so."

Lacey was still on her office and it had only been about twenty minutes when Hunt's brother Ruhn who she had never met before went to see him. They seemed to have gotten into a heated conversation as Ruhn and Hunt both walked out of the office with very guarded expressions and clenched jaws.

Hunt approached her table and Lacey got herself together as she welcomed him with a warm smile. He looked very worried.

"I'm sorry about lunch. I'm going to have to take a rain check on that one. Please clear my schedule for the entire day. I'll be back tomorrow."

"Okay. Is there a problem?"

Lacey asked expectantly, hoping that he would at least give her something to work with but Hunt shrugged.

"No, nothing at all."

He answered with a tight smile on his face and he glanced at his brother who looked tense.

"We have to go."

They both walked out without another word.

"Are you comfy Dad?" Lacey asked as she propped his neck against another pillow. He looked mildly pissed that she was fussing but he made no comments.

After work she had rushed down to the hospital to pick her father up. Her aunt was still repainting his room so she wanted him to spend a night at her place before she picked him up. Her father had been weary and silent the minute she took him into her new apartment.

She knew he had a lot of questions to ask her. He was also finding it hard to digest everything so quickly. Her new condo apartment was a big upgrade compared to the dingy one bedroom apartment she had in a shady apartment complex a few weeks ago.

"Dad? Do you need anything?"

She asked nervously. Her Dad shook his head.

"I need you to tell me the truth Lacey. What's going on?"

There was a short silence before Lacey shrugged.

"Dad, nothing is going on. "

She chuckled slowly to ease the tension but her father wasn't buying any of her act.

"First it was the hospital bills, then it was debts being paid and now a new condo apartment in the fanciest part of the city?"

"That's not really important right now Dad."

"Not really important? I'm worried about you Lacey!!"

"Oh Dad. Don't be. I promise I'm not doing anything illegal."

Lacey begged as she crouched next to her Dad and gave him a hug.

"How can I trust you?"

He asked softly and she sighed.

"You just have to trust me. You know I would never do anything illegal to get money. I'm not that kind of girl."

"Then what kind of girl are you Lacey?"

He retorted and she slowly removed her hands from his neck. She knew he was still going to keep asking her. Until she gives him a favourable response, that was the only way he would get off her back.

The doorbell rang loudly and Lacey sprang to get feet in excitement rushing to get the door.

"Who's there?"

She asked as she peeped through the peephole.

Her heart skipped a beat when her eyes met that of Aidas.
She groaned slowly as she unlatched her door.

"Hello Aidas. What are you doing here?"

Aidas shrugged.

"I should be asking you the same thing. Rehearsals are on right now."

She shook her head as she folded her arms.

"I have to take care of my Dad. Come, let me introduce you two."

"Aidas rolled his eyes as the walked towards the living room.

Her father sat up against the couch with the TV remote in his hands.

"Dad, this is Aidas Vladimir, my boss. The one I've told you about."

"Aidas meet my Father. Mr Charles Evans."

"Nice to meet you Sir."

"Nice to meet you too. I'm so glad I finally get to meet you."

Aidas raised his eyebrow as he threw a glance at Lacey.

"My Dad doesn't really quite believe I got all this from my job."

Lacey explained and Aidas smiled.

"Oh, I can assure you Mr Evans your daughter is an excellent addition to my company. That's why I had to give her a promotion. The apartment and bonus checks are all perks of the promotion."

"If you'll excuse me, Can I talk to your daughter for a minute?"

Aidas asked with a tight smile and her father nodded.

He walked to the kitchen with Lacey closely behind him.

"Did you get my text?"

She asked as the reached the kitchen and Aidas shrugged.

"I wouldn't be here if I didn't. Now, tell me everything you know."
