Chapter 12.
"Do you happen to know what they talked about?"
Aidas asked with a frown and Lacey shrugged.
"How am I supposed to know? But it was very important. And when I went to his office to check it out, the autopsy report was gone. He took it with him."
Aidas stroked his chin in concentration, if Hunt was looking through his ex girlfriend Lila's autopsy reports, he must have found something.
"Hmm. And the secretary says the brother hasn't visited in months?"
Lacey nodded.
"Donna said Ruhn Adler hasn't visited Crete Inc in months."
"I'll make a few calls. To try and know what's going on."
"Okay."
"Is that all?"
He asked with a glare and Lacey frowned at his expression.
"What else do you want?"
Aidas sighed as he rolled his eyes.
"Well, maybe real tangible information that won't have me going on a wild goose chase next time. You're barely doing your job there Candy."
"I'm trying!" Lacey cried out and Aidas scoffed.
"You call that trying? You have the advantage, you have the upper hand, don't waste all the resources I've given you doing nothing."
Going to Hunt's office while he wasn't around was a big risk for her and she was still taking such risks. She wished that Aidas could at least cut her some slack. And stop hounding her once in a while.
"Okay. Can you go now? I don't want my Dad suspecting anything."
"Ahhhh. Your Dad."
He said as he quickly glanced at the living room where her father was seated.
"You should try and get him away from all this. It'll be safer for him."
Aidas briskly walked to the front door till he opened it and left, like he never came. She turned to her father who looked at her with a small smile.
"Is everything okay?"
Lacey nodded.
"Everything is fine Dad."
"So? What did you find out?"
Aidas muttered under his breath as he leaned against the wall, careful not to draw too much attention to himself. He was too popular in the underground world. And sometimes keeping himself hidden required a great deal of effort.
The Undergrounds was a sickly place to be, it was also where the trash and ilk of Aron City lived. Years ago when the subway trains in the city had been abandoned after series of strange accidents that scared the humans away. The City Council closed it down.
It was now officially the most dangerous place to be in the city. Not only was the place crawling with all sorts of cursed Supernaturals, it also had it's fair share of danger and mayhem.
Vampires and witches were popular in the Underground, witches went there to trade, or perform spells they knew their coven would kill them for performing under the city's radar.
Vampires took solace in the darkness and the fact that the Underground had an available blood supply. From blood whores to illegal blood banks, they had the chance to drink to their fullest without the hands of the law clamping down on them.
"Well, there have been series of strange murders around town."
The man in the dark hoodie said with his back also against Aidas. One thing about the Underground was that information flew fast enough. Aidas had people he was avoiding and he didn't want to be caught lurking around.
"And why is that important?"
He frowned as his eyes darted around, it was dark as always in the Underground. The Night Market had began and the railway tracks was teeming with traders and buyers in cloaks alike.
The blood whores were dressed and ready for business, standing by at the dark corners with exposed necks and arms.
"Because they're all similar. And no ones has seen anything like it. Might even be by a Supernatural."
"Hmmmm. Any clue on that?"
There was a deep uncomfortable silence which made Aidas guess that the man knew what exactly he was talking about.
"It's best to stay away. Some things are better left unsaid."
"But I can assure you, it doesn't seem to be some random killing spree."
"You mean there's motive?"
Aidas asked and the man grunted in reply.
"What's the other thing?"
The man asked impatiently and Aidas hesitated.
"I don't have all night!"
The man groaned and Aidas sighed.
"Yes. Okay. Apart from werewolves and witches, which other supernatural mates with humans?"
The man scoffed.
"None! It's very rare. Especially since the other supernaturals we know of are almost extinct or in hiding. I don't know of any other supernatural interbreeding with humans."
Aidas sighed.
"Well, is it possible with other supernaturals?"
"Not all. The outcome may end up deformed or something even worse. But I did once hear of a rumour about a fae woman who had mated with a human. But it's highly uncommon."
"Why are you asking anyways? Vampires don't procreate."
Aidas rolled his eyes.
"I know that. Thank you."
"If you do need more answers. I know a witch who can help. She will look into your eyes and tell you what you seek."
"No thanks. I have to go."
Aidas dreaded witches. They were cunning and nosy. They rarely kept secrets and they meddled more than he cared for them to.
He got back to the club a few hours later, the club was packed and teeming with people, but he really didn't care about that at the moment.
One look at the stage and he could feel himself already getting pulled in by Lacey's wiles. Sometimes he felt like she was a different person when she was dancing.
It was a spectacular sight to watch.
She had her hair in a high ponytail that flipped .
And she was in a full black strappy choker lingerie set that left little to the imagination. And her mask of course, she rarely danced without her mask. The mask she had one with her makeup made her look like Catwoman.
He walked straight to Imelda who was around the VIP section, she appeared to be in a deep argument with Oscar.
"Boss."
Oscar mumbled as he spotted him. Imelda gave him a smouldering look before turning to Aidas.
"Leave."
The word from Aidas sent Oscar scrambling out of the seat like a scared rat.
Aidas waited until he was out of sight before he turned to Imelda. She patted the seat next to her and he settled in with a groan.
"Did you find what you wanted?"
"Barely."
He dropped his voice below a whisper, but he knew Imelda would still hear him. She was watching his lips move and she was perfect at reading lips.
She adjusted the rim of her glasses and leaned closer to him.
"Anything enough for me to work with?"
Aidas nodded slightly.
"Yes, find out more about strange murders around the city. They seem to be deeply troubling Hunt."
"Hmm. And why do you care?"
Aidas sighed.
"Well, the enemy of my enemy is my friend isn't he? We might have mutual interests."
"Will do Sir."
She made a move to stand and Aidas slowly raised his hand making her pause. His eyes were fixated on Lacey.
"Bring her to the Red Room when the show is over. I'll be waiting for her there."
"Right away Sir."
The Red room. That was where Aidas wanted to see Lacey. The last time she had been in the red room she had been terrified. Petrified even.
But the feeling was different.
"Don't be scared."
A deep low voice grunted from the other side of the room.
Lacey jumped back startled. Slowly light started to fill the red room, till the room became a monochrome blue colour that seemed to be fading into all shades.
"You startled me."
Lacey sighed as she gulped hard. Her hand on her chest, suddenly feeling self conscious in the flimsy garb she was wearing.
"Sorry. Just wanted to take you on your first lesson."
He said as he moved closed to her, his gait was slow, feline and almost predatory, something about the softness in his eyes didn't make Lacey retreat, she stood her ground till he was right in front of her.
She could see everything, from the paleness of his blue eyes to every strand on his eyebrow. She was breathing hard and fast, but he wasn't.
Almost as if he was holding his breath. He stood up, reached her in a few swift steps and without warning pinned her against the wall.
She could feel the heat of his body pressed against hers and it stirred up her pent up desire.
She waited for him to kiss her but he whispered into her ear.
"What is it about you?"
His lips grazed her ear softly and she almost moaned at the contact.
"That makes you so utterly irresistible?"
He added with a low growl and a moan escaped her lips as he gently licked her earlobe.
He stopped abruptly, leaving Lacey blinking rapidly.
Her throat felt dry all of a sudden.
Aidas smirked.
"I'll see how you fare next time."
