Chapter 43.

It was dark when Suna arrived; gnarled trees hung low over the baronial church, creaking ominously in the howling winds.

The church was the last place on their list to visit for the day. The Council had done a very good job in hiding what happened with the sixty six people that were murdered. Suna and her men had spent hours at the crime scene and they still couldn't make out what had happened. Every evidence about them had been burned to crisp.

It was gruesome and annoying, that they thought to cover up everything without even giving her team a chance to check out the evidence.

Almost as if they only cared about covering their secrets and not finding justice for those who had been wronged.

"Of all the places for this to be..."

One of her men murmured and Suna chuckled

"A church! Can you imagine? The first crack between our world and the Underworld is in a church."

"Also the biggest crack. Large enough to create a portal big enough to let high level demons in."

Ruhn said as he looked up from the map.

"Quite ominous..."

The heavy oak doors broke open, echoing around the empty church.

The moonlight shone through the heavily cracked stained-glass windows, casting an eerie glow onto the dusty alter. Thick cobwebs hung on every surface and Suna's footsteps sounded deafening on the cold stone floor.

There was a figure standing in front of the altar, it looked like it was waiting for them.

Suna and her men halted.

"Who's there?"

She asked as she felt for her gun in her holster.

"Can you very slowly turn around please? This is the FBI special forces unit."

The man turned around slowly with his hands raised above his head.

"I'm sorry to interrupt. Perhaps we haven't been introduced yet."

"No we haven't."

Suna replied sharply as the man drew nearer. She did a quick sweep of him and she frowned, he looked vaguely familiar, like someone she had seen on the news.

He was the perfect definition of tall, dark and handsome, except that he was bald, with a scar on his head, which only gave him an edge in his ruggedness.

"I'm Crispin Bjorn! Nice to meet you."

He said with outstretched hands and Suna rolled her eyes.

"What are you doing here?"

She asked. Crispin was the new candidate. She was in the hospital room when the news had been televised that he was the new candidate for Mayor. She saw his picture alongside a short video of him speaking at a children's hospital and she had frowned.

Especially when she learnt about the circumstances surrounding his visit to Aron City.

He had been invited by the Council on accounts of him being a Bjorn and a Demon hunter and he wished that he could become mayor of the city all because of that.

It was appalling. At least to her, what she had learnt about the Bjorn family was that they were a family of great honor and respect. What changed with this one? She thought as she sneered at him.

Or was he somehow the black sheep of the family.

"Suna. Don't be too worried, we're here working on the same thing."

He said and she shook her head and removed her gun.

"Sorry but I work alone. Thank you."

Suna answered and Crispin shrugged.

"It doesn't matter. The council orders are the Council's order and believe me they gave me this to work with."

"Now, we can put our heads together and work on this or we can fight about it all night."

Suna hesitated after a long silence, glancing quickly at Ruhn who seemed to be giving her a short nod as a go ahead.

"Okay then demon hunter. What have you got?"

She asks and Crispin smirked.

"Have you even wondered why the first crack in our two worlds were here?"

Suna shrugged as she started looking around, searching for clues or anything to indicate suspicious activity. She signalled to her men to spread out and survey the area.

"I'm hoping you'd be kind enough to elaborate."

She retorted and Crispin smiled. He loved her spunk! Suna was certainly a very interesting character and a loyal and powerful beta too.

"Well... It was sad that a great battle started and ended here. A lot of lives were lost..."

"Hmm..." Suna replied feigning interest.

"I do have a question for you though Crispin Bjorn."

"Please, feel free to ask."

He answered politely and she nodded her head.

"The sixty six deaths that was caused by the demon. Would you say they're some sort of sacrifice? For something bigger to come?"

She asked and Crispin went silent for a while.

Then he sighed.

"Yes. You're right."

"The number sixty six is symbolic in the Underworld. Sometimes it can mean a day of reckoning or that a greater evil is coming. There are only two instances in the history book where sixty six people were murdered as a great sacrifice."

Crispin shook his head.

"Things did not end well after that."

Suna nodded, she only wanted to confirm what she already found out.

"So things are definitely going to get worse?"

She asked and Crispin nodded grimly.

"Unfortunately."
