Chapter 184

Dylan's POV

I was more than ready for this fight that was about to be raging in front of me, I just prayed to whatever higher power was listening that my comrades were equally so.

As soon as my confession left my lips, I saw the king's eyes blaze with a fury that even I had never witnessed before. He looked absolutely crazed as he ordered anyone present to kill Lewis, who was unjustifiably still shackled to the makeshift stage.

I didn't have to act too hastily, however, as I watched Oliver immediately jump to his old friends aid. While I knew that, I had to get the king out of the way long enough for someone to use their initiative and actually free Lewis from his restraints rather than just keep the royal fighters off of him, so naturally and without a single thought in my head, I charged at king Josh, throwing my entire body into his unsuspecting one and tackling him directly off the stage.

I shouted as my body crashed onto the man who had taken everything from me. Even in the situation that I was in, the sheer sight of him made my skin crawl.

After a second of staring him in the eyes, for the first time in months, i felt him deliver a single punch to my jaw line and could taste my mouth fill up with blood from the blow. I tumbled off the top of him and onto the floor below from the impact and blinked rapidly trying to come back to my senses.

The sheer power behind the punch made me see stars and it was that moment that I realized he had in fact always gone easy on me. Every hit, or punch the king had ever delivered must have been done so with a certain amount of restraint, and that thought alone terrified me to no end.

"All this is pointless, in the end you're going to be mine... You should know by now, that I am a man who always gets what he wants..." the king taunted as I got tackled to the ground in a display of instant karma, only this time it was by one of his men.

I went down with a thud, feeling my my elbow scrape on the floor and mentally thanking the person who made my current armor. I felt a set of teeth quickly embed themselves into the protection on my calf and my nails dug into the ground as my body was pulled back towards the smug king. The tips of my fingers began to bleed from the friction the floor had caused, but I was too busy trying to kick the grown lycan off of me than to realize.

As selfish as it sounds, I'm also ashamed to admit that Lewis's predicament was an after thought as my mind was consumed with a single thing... escape.

"Argh..." I rolled on the ground and kicked the man in the face as hard as I could before attempting to scramble away, only to be caught and pulled down to the floor once again. "Get off of me, you Son of a bitch." I grabbed a rock from the floor and swung it at the guys head, as soon as it made contact, the wolf released my limb, not before scraping his nails down the length of my calf, nicking the seem of the fabric connecting my armor together, and I felt my skin tear along with it, forcing me to let out a small grunt at the sensation, far too consumed with adrenaline to do much else.

I kicked the lycan again and got to my feet preparing to run away, My head darted around attempting to find some thing that would give me an advantage against these mutts. But What could I do?! I couldn't just run away, not now, I wasn't a Lycan, I was just me, So how in gods name was I supposed to fight these once  mythical creatures?

I looked around quickly and noticed a very large thick tree branch resting towards my left. I attempted to grab it to use as a weapon but the wolf who had tried dragging me over to his grace suddenly jumped in front of me with, I swear the animal was smirking as he stalked towards me. Not to mention I had been too preoccupied to realize that the king too was stalking towards me.

I was completely and utterly defenseless. I had weapons, but without a gun my only options were close combat, I was in trouble I knew that, and fear was the only thing consuming me. If I didn't think fast then King Josh surely would get hold of me again. If that happened then it truly was all over. Shit... think, think.

What could I do?.. My head darted around to see if there was anything that I could do in stead of just standing there, shaking. There was a tree behind me and I took action just as my attacker pounced. I swung my leg up to a ridge in the trees bark and quickly began to climb it. One advantage of being human, I doubt those beasts could climb, at the very least, I doubted they could in their wolf form.

Once I had gotten to a strong branch that could hold my weight I swung onto it, leaving the mutt snarling and growling at my out of reach form. Quickly I fisted the hilt of one of the silver blades I had kept in the holster on my thigh and held it tight, before letting out a shaky breath.

My eyes raked over the bodies all fighting for what they believed in. Meanwhile I was up a tree, being a coward my hands trembling more than ever as I thought about nothing but the king. Seeing him again had quickly put both doubt and fear back into my soul, I couldn't let him get his hands on me...

I was absolutely terrified of the possibility of king Josh getting the chance to claim me.

Oh.

The moon goddesses words began to echo through my brain. "It is your biggest fear that will provide the only opportunity for success." Was the king getting a hold of me once more, truly my biggest fear?

I always assumed it was losing every one I held dear to me. The loss of my mother truly had hit me the hardest, and I always thought that losing anyone else would be the cause of my downfall, but perhaps it truly was being caught by king Josh! If that was the case then that means that I would have to... No! There had to be a different way, there was no way the goddess would have expected me to actually accept that man, and there was no chance that I was going to. I couldn't let him get to me, and I would never let him or his warriors win.

So without thinking too much on it, I launched myself off of the branch, jumping effortlessly onto the back of the snarling wolf below. The blade that I held so tightly into my hand quickly penetrated his skull, embedding itself into his brain, all the while his skin sizzled where the silver was touching.

He fell to the floor lifeless with my own body tumbling down on top of him. The death seemed to rile Kings army up and Elicited a loud growl from the king himself.

"How do you have the strength to fight against me?!" He asked with a growl in his vocals. "I broke you!"

"You didn't break me your grace... you hardened me. How does it feel, knowing that you singlehandedly pushed me into the arms of the rebellion?” I placed both my hands around the hilt of the blade embedded into the enemy's warriors skull and yanked it out, readying my weapon and pointing at His grace.

"You are my queen, the goddess Luna made that clear... and I swear, you will regret everything you and your little rebellion have done." He was angry, of course he was. I had done everything in my power to end this miserable ride called life, I had rejected him, I had attempted suicide more than once, I had fallen in love with another man, and still, he refused to let me go?!

"She is NOT your queen!” A voice sounded from behind the king and Lewis could be spotted walking towards us. His arm was coated in blood but a wound couldn’t be clearly seen so I prayed that it wasn’t his blood.

“Are you not dead yet old friend?!” The king was crazy, he had lost all sense of humanity as he allowed his black wolf to come forward. “Let’s end this!” His clothing became torn and landed in a pile below him as he stood tall and proud on his four legs, his tail now facing me as he challenged Lewis.

“I love you too, Dylan!” Lewis spoke the words that caused my breath to hitch as he too changed into his Lycan form. His Sandy fur shook as he stood to his full height, commanding awe instantly. There was absolutely no comparison.

Lewis was majestic and simply put, amazing to look at, you couldn’t help but respect the man simply from his lycans stance. King Josh however only ever elicited fear with his changed form.

The area was filled with the sound of thunder as the two wolves crashed into each other, in a frenzy. Each landing blows to maim.

The first thing I noticed was the sheer, unrelenting power behind every move Lewis made. His presence was overwhelming, almost suffocating in its intensity, each strike he delivered was precise and fierce, sending shockwaves through the air with a force that was impossible to ignore.

It was hard to reconcile this ruthless warrior of the rebellion with the man who had once served king Josh so loyally, he was a man who had allowed himself to be used as a mere tool in the hands of a tyrant. The brutality in his attacks was a testament to why he had been so valuable to the king in the first place, and why he had been kept as a close confidant.

The clarity that his grace did not provide Lewis with the royal beta title simply because they were friends, hit me like a tidal wave. No, Lewis was given that title to decrease his chances of becoming a threat.

Even now, in the throes of battle, I was entranced by the guy.

My man.

The person who not only made me believe I was worth loving, but also provided that safe and affectionate environment that I had unconsciously, always craved. An environment that I had previously deemed impossible for me to obtain.

This beast of a man, was the complete opposite of his grace. The king had stolen my body and my mind, he had chained me, and defiled me in every way imaginable. Even if victory was attained, I will always be reminded of the agony king Josh had caused.

Lewis, however seemed to have healed every crack that had been made, he had set me free. I hadn't realized until recently though, that Lewis had my heart, my mind was consumed by him, which made it very difficult for me to focus on the bloodshed in front of me.

However my awe was interrupted when a large wolf tackled me painfully to the ground, and with it a small grunt left my lips. Without thinking, I quickly wrapped my fist around my weapon even tighter than before, and gripped it firmly backwards. The attacking wolfs claws swiped down on my body, at the exact moment I swung the blade.

It sliced effortlessly through the paw that was about to cause damage, causing a howl of pain to sound out…
