Chapter 79

Adrian POV

"Slow down a bit Arya..." I looked at my sister completely taken a back by her words. I told her to go and check on Dylan as she had made her way into the bathroom, what I didn't expect was for her to come out with the most ludicrous story ever.

"I'm telling you... She's been blessed by the moon goddess. I think everyone is right, she was chosen as our queen for a reason." It shocked me to say the least, Arya hated Dylan, she was always quite jealous of her, if I'm being honest. Dylan's antics and attitude often made her the focus of conversation and the center of attention. Yet all of a sudden Arya was holding her in extreme high regard, something had defiantly happened.

"It's practically suicide to be speaking like that Arya, you should keep your voice hushed." Monroe spoke quietly, looking at the bathroom door his mate had just gone through to comfort Dylan. "We are all pretty much aware of the situation by now."

"Do you think Dylan will be ok?" Nick was worried about his friend, she had a sort of broken demeanor about her that caused me and many other to take pity on her. Only the goddess herself knows what she had been through during her time in the palace, and loosing her mom was the final piece that tipped her over the edge of no return.

"She will be fine once she's eaten that chocolate." The poor girl was even thinner now than she was when she first arrived. Before she was claimed I'd go as far as to say she even used to have a sort of muscle to her, of course the humans weren't fed at all as much as they should be, and they were limited to a certain amount of items a week, but they never went starving, I'm pretty certain Dylan and a few others used to try and keep themselves as active as possible, even when physical exercise for humans was banned in every district. However right now, poor Dylan was on the very brink of starvation due to that bastard of a king, how can someone who is supposed to love you unconditionally, treat his partner so abhorrently?

All of our attention was immediately drawn to the bathroom though when the doors opened to reveal an extremely pale Dylan. She looked positively ill compared to her usual rebellious self. She really had allowed the king to break her, not that I blamed her in the slightest. In all honesty after everything she had been through, I'm surprised it took her this long to crack. Anyone else would have broken down months ago.

"How are you feeling your grace?" She rolled her eyes slightly at the title given to her by Monroe, but nodded her head all the same. This girl could never admit that she needed help, or that she most definitely wasn't ok. It was sad really, that she consistently felt the need to hide her true feelings, especially when Nick was involved. It was like she went out of her way to act tough for him.

The school day ended, and as soon as we got home Dylan begged for food. I never thought I would ever see someone on the brink of starvation before my eyes, but here she was. It was gut wrenching actually when it was someone within my district.

The king however, after seeing how bad she was, finally obliged and gave her a bowl of soup and a slice of bread, it was definitely not enough to be considered substantial but she was so grateful nonetheless. I wouldn't have been, I would have thrown that fucking soup over his head, after lacing it with wolfsbane or silver. I just sat and kept glancing over at the poor girl, I had never in my life seen anyone eat so fast, I was worried she would make herself sick.

After dinner, While the entire pack house went out to take part in their training exercises and the humans once again remained in the sitting room, I excused myself, and allowed myself to finally try and set things in motion. It was proving to be extremely difficult.

I made phone calls, I sent messages and emails, I requested old fashioned video chats and I searched through the entire contents of the laptop. Still I came up completely empty handed. I guess there is a reason the rebellion has managed to stay hidden for so long, there was no way of contacting them.

I had exhausted myself trying to help Dylan, when a thought occurred to me, Dylan always knew her way around things, and it was her cell phone in the first place, which means she had the connections needed to help, the only issue was that if I told her about the plan, with her in her current state of mind, I don't think she would even attempt to help, never mind actually leaving for the rebellion.

What about Nick?

Nick knew her well, maybe he could aid me in my seemingly impossible task. I wasn’t entirely sure what he could do that I hadn’t already, but at the very least, it couldn’t hurt for him to try. Dylan’s situation was getting more and more desperate, anyone with eyes could see that. She was one more incident away from accepting the kings mark, and if that happened then all hope would truly be lost.

So, I waited, and waited, not taking my eyes off any of the screens in front of me, in the hopes that I’d get some form of response. Eventually the right time presented itself and I was able to ask Nick and Arya to my room.

“How’s it going?” Nick asked as he looked over at the screens in front of me. I sighed, running my hands through my now disheveled hair and looked at the couple in front of me.

“It’s not going, I’ve tried absolutely everything I can think of. I’m very quickly realizing why the rebellion hasn’t been found yet. It’s almost impossible to get in touch with them.” I buried my tired face into my hands and once again sighed at the amount of effort I had used while getting absolutely no where. “We need Dylan.”

“Well, she’s clearly not herself right now, so she is out of the question. You’ll have to find another way!” Nick was right, but who else did we know that could help? There was literally no one else who had the same connections and knowledge. Dylan was our only shot at getting her out.

“Even if we manage to get things sorted, how on earth are we going to get queen Dylan away from the king in the first place?” My sister had a very point. I was well aware of how closely he was watching her since the death of her mother. He has her on a tight leash and he knows exactly how to wield it.

“She’s right Adrian, the king barely lets her out of his sight except for school, and now it’s the weekend, it makes things even more difficult.” I knew what we had to do, it was not going to be easy, but I really didn’t factor everything in. Dylan was tightly trapped, it would take a miracle to even get a reply never mind actually orchestrating the escape.

“Ok, So I acted on impulse… but look at what he’s doing to her, the best thing for everyone is to get Dylan to the rebels.” It’s just a question of how.

“The dungeon!” Nick quickly lifted his head up to me and I frowned in confusion. What was he suggesting. “The king has already threatened her with it, if she’s locked up in the dungeon then she’s away from him.”

“But she won’t do anything at the minute that would warrant her getting locked up. She’s being obedient for him.” Arya was right, Dylan wasn’t putting a toe out of line since her mothers death, and that would pose a problem.

I had to admit though, as much as I didn’t like the plan, The dungeon would be the most perfect place to keep her away from his grace until the time came to get her out. Plus I had access to every key for every cell within the dungeon, meaning I could control everything right up to Dylan’s extraction.

“We will have to do something that would warrant the kings anger towards her. Even he has been treating her somewhat better recently.” I didn’t like it, but it was the only plan we had. When all is said and all is done, we were still just kids. I might be the next alpha but even I had a long way to go before I received any sort of respect from the wolves who are to serve underneath me.

“That’s risky, Dylan is unstable right now. One more incident or punishment and she could be broken forever.” Nick shook his head, my words affecting him the most out of the three of us.

“She will be fine! It’s Dylan we’re talking about.” I wasn’t so sure. She’d been through so much already. I’m not sure I had it in me to deliberately get her in trouble. “Besides it’s one more thing and then she will be free. It’s us being cruel to be kind.

“She’s your best friend Nick, your making it seem like you don’t care about her at all.” I didn’t understand him at all sometimes, since she arrived with the king he’s been treating her as if she never left, when that was a far cry from reality.

“Guys?!” My sister’s voice was too quiet for Nick to have missed it the way he did.

“I do care, it’s just, you know, it’s Dylan. Nothing ever really phases her.” Maybe he was just in denial about everything king Josh as put her through.

“Guys?!” I vaguely heard my sister but I was too shocked at nicks attitude.

“I think your putting too heavy a weight on her shoulders. Shes still only human.” Was she just never allowed to falter? Was she always supposed to be this strong unbreakable force? Everyone seemed to treat her like she herself was made of pure silver. A plague to wolves, but a life saver to the human kind.

“Guys?!”

“Only human?! That human managed to even deceive your dad, the alpha not too long ago. I’d say your not giving her enough credit.”

“GUYS!?” Eventually Arya, after being ignored so many times by us, yelled loudly causing me to wince at our proximity and Nick to look at her with wide eyes.

“Goddess Arya, are you trying to deafen me?” She sighed and rolled her eyes before holding up the cell phone that was previously lying on the bed.

“You, have a text message!” What? I all but snatched the phone out of her hands and began reading it quickly. She was right, it didn’t give anything a way, or offer any form of help, but it was there, clear as day in black digital ink. The very words that may just get us the help we all needed.

‘How did you get Dylan’s phone?’

I knew one thing and one thing only… we had found our way in!
