Chapter 190
Lewis POV.
I was fighting with all my strength, attempting to hone in on the full moon, allowing it to give me the energy to fight with everything I had.
This man had in front of me had caused so much pain and heartache to the world, and he had tortured the love of my life, simply for his own twisted ending. I had no intention of letting him live, and I was doing a fairly good job at subduing him, I was getting very close to ending it.
His movements were slowly becoming less frequent, as we both began to show our fatigue, we had after all, been fighting for hours on end.
That all ended however, when I heard an almighty shout coming from a few feet away from where we were, Dylan’s shout! My head turned towards her, watching in horror as Warren dragged her across the grass by what looked like her arm!
As soon as Josh clocked onto my distraction, he took advantage of it, and began tearing into me, while I in turn tried my hardest to best him.
There was no doubt He was a strong Lycan but honestly, it was only due to my distraction that he was able to get this upper hand over me.
My exhausted body began to shift back into my human form and I watched as Josh did the same, showing nothing but malice on his face. He truly did hate me for pursuing Dylan, not that he had the rights to be, not after everything with Iliana.
While I lay there taking hit after hit, I couldn't help but believe that this truly was the end of all the fighting and the tyranny.
I was hurting and spluttering blood as Josh continued to pound into my face, again and again with his bare fists. Grunting out his anger with each impact.
"You know, I always thought, if someone was to replace me as the king, it would have been you, Lewis. But instead you had to go around claiming my mate, your queen Luna, as your own. Such traitorous actions can not be over looked. How the mighty fall..." He berated at me while beating me to an inch of my life. I needed to get up, I needed to save my girl, but I couldn't even lift my arms to protect myself anymore. "What we're you thinking?" He laughed manically. "You thought you could get revenge for your first mate? Is that it? Iliana wanted me! Me! Even as I killed her she begged me to love her."
'If this is how I die then so be it, but please moon goddess, don't let my Dylan follow me.' I silently prayed to the goddess above to give Dylan a good life. To let her live in peace, but my thoughts and prayers were broken when a very quiet voice met both mine and Joshs ears.
"Mark me!"
I gasped at the sound, and felt my heart stop beating in my chest at Dylan’s words. Josh's moves however were instantly halted as he left my body mid beating. I could barely see through all the blood that trickled over my eyes, but I managed to lift my head just enough to see the silhouettes of two people. Josh and Dylan.
I couldn't fathom were my senses were as I forced my broken body to stand. I wasn't going to let her accept him. Not after everything, and certainly not to save me. "Dyl...?" My voice came out as a groan before I tumbled to the ground again, only to see the shadow of my love being held by her neck by the person I once called friend. "No..." my raspy voice tried to shout, but I too was bleeding, and my face felt like it was on fire as I attempted to stand once again, only to fall onto my stomach, hitting my chin onto the blood covered grass below me.
I coughed, and shook my head trying to shake off my half conscious state, my hands roughly wiped my eyes free from the blood that coated them enough to see the scene in front of me. If my body wouldn't let me walk then I'd force it to crawl over to my girl. I dragged my body forward using the remaining strength in me, only to see Josh's teeth roughly embed themselves into her flesh.
Marking someone was supposed to be intimate, it was supposed to be completed while being embraced lovingly by each other, but Josh held Dylan tightly, her back pressed up against his chest, while her arms dangled down her sides, blood pouring from her right shoulder and down the mangled limb. I honestly didn’t think she even had any feeling left in it, it was that badly damaged, and practically severed from the rest of her body.
It was The pain from his mark, however that caused an earth shattering scream to leave her lips, and tears began to fill my own eyes, as my blurry vision took in the scene in front of me in.
It made everything worse when the pain of rejection engulfed my chest at the feeling of her accepting a mates mark that wasn't my own. My wolf form, although exhausted, was teetering on the surface, in fact I would have allowed my animalistic self to completely take over, if it wasn't for my battered and beaten body.
"Dylan..." once again my whisper died in the open air before it even had the chance to be heard by my girl, who was currently in more turmoil than she had ever been. I watched on, helplessly as she cried when Josh finally allowed his fangs to leave her delicate skin, and threw his head back in euphoria while my girl simply frowned, gritting her teeth in agony.
Even from where I was, I could hear her teeth grinding against each other in an attempt to prevent another scream from escaping her lips. In the end, we were both powerless to stop her from being marked.
My eyes however went wide, when her hand quickly shot up with a loud grunt, hastily and effectively embedding a bladed weapon into Josh's throat. His grip loosened, and blood fell out of his own mouth as he wobbled before falling onto the ground below the pair.
I watched powerlessly still crawling closer and closer to them both as She climbed on top of him, quickly finishing her job at killing him. The scent of blood hung thickly in the air, and I continued to force my body to propel forward towards her.
My mate, my beautiful strong mate, suddenly collapsed to the floor herself. Her chest heavily rising and falling with her laboured breath. She was losing far too much blood, far too quickly.
"DYLAN... NO!" Finally, I made it over to my girl, whose body was shutting down steadily. Her head jolted as I gently pulled her on top of me, caressing her head and rocking her gently as I held her, completely ignoring my own body's termoil. "Dyaln, stay with me! Don't leave me! Please don't leave me." Her arm was hanging on by a thread of muscle, and the blood loss was becoming extremely concerning, so I allowed my hand to wrap firmly around her shoulder in an attempt to quell the bleeding. "HELP! SOMEONE!" My voice was desperate, but my shouts were muffled and quiet, which only frustrated me more.
My own tears streamed out of my eyes as I felt her pulse weaken. "You can't leave me Dyl, You don't get to leave me, not now, not after everything."
"Lewis..." Her whisper, shattered me, in the end her biggest fear came true and I couldn't stop it. "I love..." I didn't want to hear it. So I shook my head, attempting to stop her speech. "You..." Her cough was becoming thicker as my head shook more. Only her own head turned away from me, giving me a full view of that bastards painful mark. I growled lowly, not liking the sight of it one bit, and apparently I wasn't the only one who despised it. . "Please, Don't let... Don't let me die with this mark."
What?! I stopped breathing as I stared at the girl who was quickly loosing consciousness in my arms. I jolted her slightly as I spoke, however my words were met with nothing but silence.
"What?" I couldn't have heard her right could I? She had said not to let her die with his mark, what could that mean? Did she want me to mark her over the top of his? And if I did that what would even happen? As far as I knew something like that had never been done before. I didn't know what the repercussion of my mark would be for her.
Forced markings resulted in death, while an accepted mark was forever. Not once had someone wanted another's to be displayed on their neck on top of one that was already cemented. Once your goddess given mate had marked you, it was iron clad.
"Dylan? What are you asking me?! Dylan..." Shit... she was dying in my arms. Don't let her die with his mark?! What was I supposed to do? Did the side effects even matter with her body being so damaged anyway? If I did in fact mark her, hopefully the goddess Luna can make it feel as good as a marking is supposed to.
Shit, her heartbeat had ceased completely.
“No, no, no, no, no!” I mumbled out my panic as I quickly placed her down on the ground and began attempting chest compressions, not truly knowing what I was doing. "Dylan... Dylan?! Damn it... Dyl?!" I couldn't think about it at all, I needed to do what she wished whether I agreed to it or not. I would not let her die with that bastards mark. “Ok Dylan. Ok.”
I lifted her lifeless head ever so slightly and stared at Josh’s mark for a few seconds before allowing my own fangs to protrude. I kissed her lips gently, then shuffled her around. “Dear Goddess.” I whispered quietly, before letting my own teeth penetrate her skin.
