Chapter 26: Epilogue

Laynie
So, Irony can be damaging, hurtful and cruel. It can inflict pain that knows no boundaries, but I think irony is meant to allow you to see the good in every situation. For me and Jared it did just that. Six months ago, I was afraid he might turn back into his former self. He did, and it was perfect. I know Jared is my forever and if I didn't know it before, I for sure know it walking down the aisle to him. Jared was right, I did deserve my dream wedding.
We are in our new backyard that sits on a beautiful hill. Jared bought my dream home. We are still in Minneapolis, but plan on moving back to New York. We decided not to have our past dictate our future, besides my restaurant is there and so is his business. In fact, Maggie's opens in one week. I couldn't be happier. We still currently see therapists. Jackie was able to recommend me to great psychologist. We still struggle every day, but we are fighting for our love. That's all anyone can really do.
I glance up at my father who is smiling brightly at me with tears in his eyes. My father loved that we were doing this, in his mind it's a father's job to eventually walk the princess down her aisle.I love my dad. I glance over at Anna and Alan; whose roles today are that of maid of honor and best man. They appointed themselves. It's just friends and family here and I it couldn't be more perfect.
Jared's father is out of prison, something that came to a shock to us all. Although Jared is a little worried about him, the FBI has told us they have their claws on Nicholas Cole.
I eventually make my way to my husband and watch as my father shakes his hand. He takes my hand in his and gives me the smile I crave. The minster rules us married, even though we technically already are, and we march back down the aisle. We have one stop before we head over to the banquet hall for the reception.
Once Jared parks the car, he walks over to my door and helps me up, it takes a bit of help since I'm still in my wedding dress. We move through all the plots and finally come across the one we are searching for. I sit down not caring if I have dirt and grass on my dress.
"Hey mom, sorry we haven't been here in a while, we have just been busy with everything going on for the wedding. Your son wanted to get married two months after he won be back. Can you believe him?" I laugh looking at Jared who has taken a seat as well.
"Thank you for giving him to me, Maggie. Thank you for showing me true love. Thank you for showing me that I was worth it." I say with a tearful goodbye.
I get up and walk down to the next patch giving Jared his time alone with his mother. I walk to the patch that Jared bought just a few weeks ago.
Adam Jared Cole. I sit down and wait for Jared to come over and speak with me. Minutes later he joins me, wiping the tears from his eyes, we speak with our son for a few minutes. Jared wanted his plot to be close to his mother's. That way we can visit them both at the same time.
We leave the cemetery hand in hand and get back in the car. We head to Maggie's with a content feeling. I'm happy, he is happy and we are complete. We didn't let the darkness win.
