Chapter 14: When The Moms Meet
Jevan's POV
I stormed through my bedroom and threw myself face down on the bed. Exhaling a loud sigh, I thought about Blossom and how she must be feeling right now all because of me.
A single tear fell but was instantly soaked up by the bed sheets.
A knock came on the bedroom door. I quickly looked up and saw my mother standing there with a concern look on her beautiful face.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" she asked, coming closer to me and sitting beside me on the bed.
I sat up and nodded.
"You weren't here last night. Your father and I were worried. Where were you?"
"I was out with Blossom. I took her shopping and then we went to one of aunt Emily's hotel. I should have called or text you. Time just caught up to us and we woke up this morning."
"Sounds entertaining. But why are you sad now?"
There was no hiding the sadness from my expression.
"It's Blossom's mom. I got Blossom in trouble by staying out all night and now her mother doesn't want me to be with her.
She thinks I've contaminated her daughter and that I'm responsible for Blossom's now rebel behaviour," I explained.
"Well, are you?"
"Maybe I am. But all I want is for Blossom to stand up for herself, mom. She's so kind and sweet. I don't want people to take advantage of her."
My mother nodded as she listened to everything I had to say.
"And I took her shopping. I couldn't even give her her stuff," I added.
"Okay. Maybe I can pay her mom a visit and try to resolve this. I can tell you care about Blossom. I can take the stuff with me. Write down her address on a piece of paper. I'm going to get ready."
"You'll really do this for me, mom?" I was gleaming.
"Of course. I'll do anything for you, sweetie. But it's still Blossom's mom who'll have the final say." With that, my mother left my bedroom.
I scribbled Blossom's address on a piece of paper and dropped it off to my parents bedroom where I know my mother would find it easily.
_______
After one hour, she was dressed and ready to leave. I walked her out the door and watched as she took the shopping bags out my car and put them into hers before she got behind the steering wheel and drove out the gate.
"Good luck mom. You'll need it."

Blossom's POV
"I swear, if you keep giving me your attitude, you'll be grounded for life!" my mother yelled back.
She and I were still going at it but then I realised I was only making matters worse for Jevan and I. My mother was already blaming him for my stubbornness and attitude, but yet here I was, talking back rudely to her.
Without another response from me, I flopped down on my bed and thought about Jevan.
Did he get in trouble with his parents too?
Is he thinking about me right now?
My eyes fell on the book my father gave me. I flipped through the pages and read silently to myself. Reading calmed me and it was a way of escaping reality. And right now, I needed the escape.
After two hours, a luxury car pulled up on our pavement. I peered out the window and saw a woman getting out.
"Wait. She looks familiar. Is that my bags?" I watched as the woman took shopping bags out the back seat of her car.
Looking some more, I noticed it was Jevan's mother. I met her only once but I'll never forget her beautiful face.
I ran out of my room and went to the door downstairs just as she knocked.
"Who is it?" my mother asked, appearing behind me. I opened the door slowly and met a smiling Mrs. Hollen.
"Hi. Good morning, Blossom. How are you?" she asked.
"I'm okay," I answered.
"Do you know this woman?" my mother asked again.
"Yes... She's..."
"I'm Jevan's mother. It's nice to meet you Mrs. Wright," Mrs. Hollen answered and shifted the shopping bags to one hand and extended the other to my mother, who of course, refused to take it.
"Come on in Mrs. Hollen," I said, opening the door wider to let her through. She stepped in and her eyes looked out.
"Your home is lovely," she complimented.
"Oh, I'm sure it's nothing compared to yours," my mother rudely replied. "Now, what do you want?"
Mrs. Hollen set the bags down on the floor and straightened her posture. Her smile flattened as she locked eyes with my mother.
"Mrs. Wright, I'm here on the behalf of my son."
"So no one wants to understand my wishes?" my mother snapped, "I forbid your son to have his way with my daughter and that's that!"
"And I can respect that, Mrs. Wright, but you also have to understand that we're not dealing with kindergarteners here.
Blossom is a young lady and I believe she's very capable of making decisions. Why would you deprived her of such?"
"Don't come here and tell me how to raise my child, Mrs. Hollen."
"I'm sorry if I've over-stepped, but does your daughter want the same thing as you?"
Mrs. Hollen looked at me. I shook my head no.
"She doesn't know what she wants. She's a child!"
"She's a young lady."
My mother scoffed but Mrs. Hollen continued. "Isn't it better to have an open relationship with your daughter? One where she doesn't have to be afraid of telling you things that's going on in her life?"
"Look, I don't know how you American parents do things here and I don't care. Blossom is African. I'm African. I don't have to take any advice from you about my child and what relationship I should have with her.
I'm the parent. Not the child. Blossom has to listen to me, not the other way around."
"I can see there's no reasoning with you but that's okay. Blossom is your child. You have the final say here."
"Yes I do. And right now, you can go ahead and leave. I don't need your son destroying my daughter's life."
"My son is a good boy. I can climb the highest mountain and scream it from the very top. I did a damn good job on raising him and I'm still doing that job.
I can guarantee he has never hurt your daughter in any kind of way."
Both pair of eyes fell on me.
"It's true, mama. Jevan is the sweetest boy ever. He never force me to do anything. I'm still a virgin, mama. If that's what you're so worried about."
My mother's face fell. She sat down on the couch between us without another word.
"Mom?" I said.
"I got pregnant with you while I was still in school, Blossom. I can't describe how angry my parents got. They were so angry that they threw me out of the house. My education came to a complete halt.
I just don't want to see you go down the same road as I did. I can't even afford your education much less a baby."
"Mom, that's not going to happen to me."
"Mrs. Wright, my son bought these stuff for Blossom. Is it okay for her to take them?" Mrs. Hollen asked her.
"Sure," my mother replied. A silver lining at last.
I quickly picked the bags up and carried them upstairs to my bedroom, leaving Mrs. Hollen and my mother to converse some more.
I took every piece of items out of the shopping bags and put them away.
"I wish you were in there as well Jevan," I joked to myself.
Then I heard a vibration.
I went to the bags again and noticed a brand new cellphone at the bottom. A number flashed on the screen.
"Hello?" I answered.
"It feels so good hearing your voice again. I miss you so much."
"I was just thinking about you. I miss you too. I wish I could see you, Jevan."
"I know. But let's give your mom some time to cool down. I'll see you soon."
"Okay."
He hung up and I went back downstairs. Mrs. Hollen was leaving now. I waved her goodbye and turned my attention back to my mother.
"Mom, do you still forbid Jevan and I being together?" I asked her.
"Of course I do!"
My mother changed back to her tough exterior, peeled off the chair and left the living room.
She didn't want me and Jevan being together because she feared what happened to her will happen to me too but there was more to it. It was written all over her face and I wasn't going to give up until I knew more.
My mother was hiding something.
