Chapter 27: Lost For Words

Jevan's POV

After the meeting with my father and his partners in France, I went back to my hotel room.

To my appal surprise, Adobi was sitting on one of the couches with her right leg crossed over the left. And Blossom had a puzzle look on her face as they stole quick glances at each other.

I left the unfriendly tension.

"Adobi. What are you doing here?" I asked, putting my briefcase aside and loosening my neck tie before moving it.

"Is that all you're going to say? You don't sound too happy to see me. Maybe because you already have company." Her eyes blazed at Blossom.

"I told you before that I'm here on business with Jevan," Blossom defended.

"Oh. First name basis. Now I know she's definitely not an employee at Hollen Tower so what is she really doing here?" Adobi was standing now with hands on her hip.

"Look, she's seeking my approval to invest in Mr. Collinwood's starting company. She's his employee," I explained.

"Oh. Well I'm sorry for the way I lashed out at you both. Jevan, I came to surprise you. Your father gave me all the details, even about the party tonight so I thought this would be the perfect time to come see you," Adobi said.

I pulled her into a quick hug and kissed her forehead. "I missed you."

"I missed you too."

I formally introduced Adobi to Blossom before Adobi drifted off to sleep in my bedroom.

" So, how did you two met?" Blossom asked me once we were alone.

"At college. We had similar classes together and we sort of just clicked," I responded.

"That's nice. I'm so happy for you, Jevan. You deserve to be happy."

I nodded my head before speaking again, "So, there's a party tonight called "À Peine Là". It means 'Barely There' in English."

"Why does that sound so revealing?"

"Because it is so I hope you've got a sheer dress."

"Actually, I don't. I think I'll sit this one out. Plus, I've got lots more work to do." She showed me her computer.

"Come on, you deserve a break. I'll tell you what. I'll give you a card and you can go get a dress."

"You can't be serious. Your girlfriend will kill you."

"She wouldn't dare." I handed Blossom my card. She reluctantly took it.

"Where am I supposed to find a dress though? I don't know a street name in Paris."

"The hotel got a boutique. Try there."

She smiled at me then walked out the door. There will always be something about the way she smiles.

At 9:00 P.M, we were dressed and ready to leave for the gala.

Adobi looked stunning in a white sheer dress that hugged her curves and made her cleavage popped. The split revealed more of her skin. Her hair was in a beautiful high bun. She looked beautiful, but when Blossom entered the room, I was speechless.

Blossom wore a black dress that fitted like a second skin on her beautiful, captivating body. It flowed down the back of her and ended with black feathers. I just need she would be the envy of the party tonight. Adobi was already dreading to look her way.

Complimenting them both, we went to the limousine and enjoyed chilled glasses of champagne on the way.

Blossom's POV

Arriving at the Gala, I slowly entered the room and was immediately dazzled by the crystal chandelier that hung from the ceiling like a waterfall. It lights glittered on everyone and made my dress appeared to be more beautiful due to the glitters that were on it.

Adobi laced her arm with Jevan's and they mingled and laughed with others.

My feet took me to the bar where I snatched a flute of champagne and drank it down hastily.

"What does he see in her?" my mentality spoke but I cussed myself for thinking that things would go back to the way they were when we teenagers.

Jevan had matured into a more attractive man. He wasn't the same Jevan I left seven years ago.

I snatched another flute of champagne and drank it again.

"Hey, by the rate you're going, you wouldn't survive the party," a voice frightened me.

I quickly turned towards it and saw a guy standing behind me. His eyes scanned my entire body while a smile grew on his face.

"Hi," he said again and extended his hand.

"Hi," I greeted back and shook hands with him.

"I saw you since you came in with Jevan Hollen. My name is Hunter. Hunter Sax," he introduced himself.

"I'm Blossom Wright."

"Nice to meet you, Blossom Wright."

Hunter seemed nice. He was handsome with a pair of blue eyes. His black hair was styled in a slick- back-undercut and he stood in a sheer shirt with a black jacket.

"Do you want to dance?" he asked me. A beautiful jazz was playing from the live band.

Hunter kindly took my hand and led me to the dance floor.

His arm circled my tiny waist and drew me closer to his rock hard chest. We stepped to the music and simultaneously got lost in each other.

When the music ended, my eyes fell on Jevan. He was looking right at me with a jaw so stiffened, you can cut through a stone with it.

Hunter led me over to Jevan. I knew that he saw me looking at him.

"Well, if it isn't my dear friend in the business," Hunter started when he got to Jevan.

"Hunter," Jevan simply said. They shook hands for positivity sake but I knew just by the tones in their voices, they weren't friends. They were rivals.

"So this is Hunter? I've heard so much about your father's company in L.A. You must be so proud to become the CEO," Adobi butted in, much to Jevan's dismay.

"That I am. You must be Adobi," Hunter said, "Saw you two in a Couples magazines. You make a lovely pair indeed," Hunter responded with a smile.

Adobi giggled and held onto Jevan's arm even tighter.

"And you and Blossom here would make a lovely pair as well. We saw you dancing and I saw chemistry between you both," Adobi said back.

"She is beautiful." Hunter turned to me and smiled at him.

"Yeah, I don't think so," Jevan spoke up.

"Honey, look at the way she's smiling at him and he's smiling at her. I think they're perfect for each other," Adobi tried to silence Jevan.

"Are you cupid now?" Jevan asked her. He pulled away from Adobi's grip and left our small circle.

"Maybe I should go talk to him. Man to man," Hunter said. He left me with Adobi.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what that was about," she immediately apologized.

"It's fine," I said and we sat down.

_____________

Awards started being presented to business men from around the world. Jevan received two for being Most donations to charity and Most outstanding company.

While the party winded down, Jevan was himself again. He danced away with Adobi and I was surprised when he offered to dance with me.

"This dress fits you so right," he whispered in my ear right after he was done twirling me.

"Thank you. It was your money after all," I told him.

He chuckled. I laid my head against his chest as the music flared around us. His sweet fragrance was all too familiar to my nostrils.

I felt comfort. I left like we were the only two in the room, dancing with each other without a care.

But the song ended and Adobi cut between us with a small black box in her hands.

"Jevan. It took this night to made me realize how much I want this to last. I'm pushing all my pride aside and doing something that only a majority of women wish a man would do instead," she spoke.

She popped the box opened, "Jevan, will you marry me?"
