Chapter 45: Supposed To Be
Blossom's POV
I barged into Hunter's office.
"You son of a bitch! You told her, didn't you?"
His eyes expanded from total surprise and he tried to cover up himself.
Anger had blind me for a mere second but I finally caught wind of what was occurring in front of me.
Hunter was getting a blow job from Brooke. She was kneeling behind his desk with her clothes off.
"You can't just walk into my office like this!" Hunter yelled at me.
"Why not? It's not like we're a couple and you're trying to cover up your tracks," I responded, being proud of myself for not feeling an ounce of hurt and betrayal.
Brooke got on her feet, wiped her lips, got dressed and walked out the door, leaving me face to face with the man I now hated.
"Adobi showed up at your place, huh?" he asked with a chuckle.
"I know you're a lot of things but I never took you to be a snitch."
"Hey. She has a right to know who her fiancé is screwing behind her back!"
"You're just doing this because I wouldn't take you back!"
"I don't care about you, Blossom. I never really did."
"And I know that now. I got the scars to prove it and the vise grip memories I wouldn't be able to escape."
"What do you really want from me?"
"I've been nothing but good to you. I defended you, I loved you and I cared about you. What you did to me, you will get your karma. I'm not afraid of you anymore and you can't hurt me," I released.
"See, that's where you're wrong," Hunter let out and he slowly rose from his chair, "I can snap your neck right now."
I laughed loudly and made steps until I was directly in his face. Exhales colliding.
"Do it," I told him, "Be the man you really are and snap my neck, Hunter."
Our eyes locked and he sighed in defeat. I turned on my heel and walked out the door.
I walked into Brooke in the hallway.
"Well, if it isn't my rival," she smirked, putting her hands on her hip.
"Well, if it isn't the Dick-sucker of the week," I smirk back.
"Watch yourself, Blossom. You have no more weight around here thanks to me."
"That's quite fine by me. You got all the weight now including those on your face and your thighs. You should start using the gym. Dick-sucking is only good for the jaws."
Brooke looked like someone just punched her in the throat. Her cheeks went red and tears built up. She grunted and speed walk her way back to Hunter's office.
It was the truth. She was beginning to get fat.
____________
My cellphone buzzed in my pocket as I arrived at my house. I smiled when I saw his name on the screen.
"Hi," I answered.
"Hey. Adobi knows," he stated.
"Yeah. She paid me a visit."
"She didn't hurt you, did she?"
"No. She threw a tantrum and one of my potted plants, then she got back into her car and drove away."
"Things are really crappy between us right now and I can't help but feel guilty about that. Adobi isn't you and I need to realize that."
My heart skipped a beat.
Is he going to dump her for me?
"Blossom," his voice went on, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for rekindling moments with you and leading you on."
My heart sank. "Jevan, what are you saying? Are you saying that what happened between us was a mistake?"
"Not all of it. Look, it's hard to explain but I'm engaged to Adobi and she should get her fair chance of loving me and I should be available to her and only her.
I'll be there for my son and I can be your friend. That's it."
"What if I want more? What if I want to be more than just your friend?"
"I can't be. It wouldn't be fair to you or Adobi or even myself. I miss what we had. I still think about you but that's as far as it will go."
"Jevan! Don't! Don't shut me out. It was supposed to be us. Me and you and our son living together. Me and you were supposed to get married and build a life with each other. It was supposed to be us!" I screamed into the phone as the walls around my heart crumbled for the guy I wanted so desperately.
"I'm sorry. I got to go now. I'll be by this evening to see Jason so I guess I'll see you as well."
He hung up and an idea sparked my mind and so help me, I was going through with it.
_______
It was early evening when Jason grew exhausted and drifted off to an early sleep.
Jevan arrived when I tucked our son in his bed. He knocked before entering. I wore my red satin robe and RiRi by Rhianna fragrance. It was my favorite.
"Sorry, you just missed Jason. He's sleeping," I said as I walked into the room he was standing in.
"Already?" he asked, looking at his watch.
"He had a long day," I answered, letting down the fresh weaves I had installed.
"Okay then. I guess I'll head out," Jevan said.
"No! Wait. We should talk about something," I insisted.
"What's that?"
"Are you really going to marry Adobi?"
"Blossom, like really?"
"Answer the question truthfully," I told him, "Are. You. Really. Going. To. Marry. Her?"
With every word, I undid my robe and tossed it to the floor.
I was standing in front of him. Exposed in my lace bra and matching panties.
"Blossom. This isn't the kind of woman you are."
"What makes you so sure?"
"Since when are you so desperate to the point of seduction? What's this all about anyways?"
"Because I want you back!"
"Listen to me. Cover yourself up and have some pride in yourself. Our son is in the house. What's wrong with you?" he snapped.
I sighed but picked my robe up and covered myself. Tears of embarrassment streaked down my face.
Jevan came towards me. "Hey. As I told you on the phone today, I'll be your friend. I want to see you happy. I want to see you live your best life."
"I can only do those things with you, Jevan. I love you. I never stopped loving you even when I was in the arms of another man. Our love never ended for each other back in high school. I was taken away from you."
I was a hot mess now.
Jevan pulled me into his arms. "Life is a bitch where shit happens," he said.
He didn't let me go until I stopped crying. Then his phone rung and he pulled away from me.
"I've got to go. I'll see Jason tomorrow."
He walked out the door and I trailed after him. I watched quietly as he got into his Range Rover and drove away, taking the love I thought was so great, so everlasting, so powerful, along with him.
My sorry attempt failed and I had the utmost respect for him that he was able to resist temptation.
Adobi was going to have the best husband in the world.
And I had to start over at love with a son in the mix.
