Curse
I was the reason he enjoyed the sunset. He'll never forget me because of the sunsets, which he'll always see. Since that is the course I took in his mind. Positive thoughts, fantasies, and language.
However, I didn't tell him the whole truth. Even though I adore sunsets, I also know deep down that I'll always detest them. I'll always be reminded of something ending when I see it. I am aware of what it is.
That brief period of time we had together was heaven to me. Some of my happiest days in my life were during those times. Even now, I was unable to recall the last time I had felt joy. Maybe I've never felt that content before.
Being with my mother or a time when our family was still intact and content is probably one of my most joyful memories. I currently have him on my new list of favorites. But I'm also aware that it's coming to an end.
On our final night at the resort, after a romantic dinner for just the two of us, we stayed at the beach to take in the tranquility and moonlight.
He despises the moon or perhaps he despises the night. But he claimed that I gave him the courage to endure his suffering. He had no idea that I was the source of his misery. Despite my best efforts to pass for the female lead, I am actually the antagonist of his tale.
I just asked, "Why do you hate the moon?"
In between his legs, I'm seated. He has his hard chest up against my back.
Simply put, he said, "I just hate it."
I laughed softly. Such a man. He is truly exceptional.
I asked again, "Can I ask you a question?"
"Athena, you're asking me already."
I bit his skin while pouting. He gave my head a kiss while laughing.
With his laugh fading, he said, "Okay, go on."
I replied, "It's a personal question.
I don't give a damn, as if I still think about that.
Again, I feel that heaviness. Beau, I already know how you're feeling. Make it easy for me to do this.
I asked just loud enough for him to hear, "Where are your parents?"
There was a deafening silence around us. Only the crashing waves against the shore were audible to us. And somewhere there were crickets.
“They've gone.”
My lips parted.
"Both of them?"
He murmured, "Uh-huh."
Only teeny lights could be seen when I looked forward. I don't want to see his eyes.
What happened, I inquired once more. But I immediately added a few more words to it. I respect you, Beau, so if you don't want to respond, that's fine.
He remained silent. I came to the conclusion that he was really reluctant to share that aspect of his life.
"Would you like a story told to you?"
I chuckled while furrowing my brows. A story, out of the blue?
"Hm-hmm,"
I responded, acting as if I had my doubts, "Alright then."
He began, "There's this world that was governed and controlled by the moon.
I couldn't keep it to myself any longer: "Moon? How would the moon rule the world."
Not that moon, but Selene, the moon goddess.
“Selene? Oh, that's right. I remember learning about that mythology sh*t in high school.”
He placed his thumb on my lips and said, "Shhh," to silence me.
“You don't want the gods to hear you, I understand.
Rolling my eyes, I said, “As if they were real.”
“They are.”
“Beau, it's a MYTH,” I said in a matter-of-fact manner.
He retorted, "At least for this world.”
I gave a headshake. I find it hard to believe that a man of your intelligence believes in them.
He sounded so grave, "But what if they are real, Jade?"
Okay, sir, go ahead, I jokingly said.
He says, "I'm asking you," in a commanding manner.
I shouted, "Congratulations! Gods are out there! Pour money! Make it rain!"
He gave my cheeks a squeeze and kissed my lips. I chuckled.
“That's not how the world operates,Jade. This world depends on money to function, whereas that world doesn't give a damn about it.”
“And?" I inquired about the narrative.
“It's a world ruled by supernatural beings, where fantasies come true.”
“Like what?”
He pondered for a while before responding.
"Wolves."
Wolves? I sound so interested right now. However, not because of his story, but rather because of his bizarre ideas. Why are we just now discussing this?
He gave me a hushed "Yes, werewolves" as he kissed the top of my head once more.
“Werewolves, like in the movies, where a man transforms into a wolf?”
He took deep breaths. "Yes."
I look up at the moon, whose light is reflected on the water, and I wonder, "And what is it about the moon and them?"
"It is said that humans and wolves were once one, but that was before humans decided to be superior to all other creatures because many people had influenced them to think that way. They also had their own beliefs, prophecies, and fate. The war broke out, and the world fell into chaos, so the Gods decided to divide it all.”
To make him think I was interested in his story, I merely asked, "Is that what they call the multiverse or something."
“Every world has its own history and gods, but on the one I'm telling you about, Selene, the goddess of the moon, was in charge.”
I gave a quick nod. He took my hand in his and we clasped it together before he continued. I was simply observing the moon. How is it possible for a god to exist there? It is merely science.
"That one time, a werewolf disobeyed the goddess; humans don't have any abilities to do supernatural things, including getting involved with those supernatural beings, not unless those supernatural beings get involved with them.
“What did it do?”
“He, “ he clarified.
“What did he do?” I asked again.
I'm not even sure if werewolves can be classified as either a he or a she, but whatever suits him.
“He made a connection with a person and fell in love with a woman who was a human and was born without a wolf or any other supernatural abilities.”
“And what's wrong with that?" I asked with a shrug.
He seemed to be staring at me intently.
“What's wrong if two people fall in love with one another?”
"Jade," I said, "It's not that easy."
"It is. Love is inevitable. Without love, nothing would work. " I shrugged again.
His eyes darkened.
"So you’re telling me it’s no big deal for you if a wolf falls in love with you?"
I spat a chuckle. "Me?" I pointed at my chest. I shook my head, smiling, and leaned against his chest again.
"Continue," I commanded.
"I’m asking you."
"That isn't true, Beau."
"But what if it is?"
"Tell me the rest of the story first." I persisted in order for him to stop.
“The ability of werewolves to interact with the human world is due to a god who has fallen into one particular werewolf, whom Selene so greatly admired that she complied with his request to open the gates to this world.”
I acted surprised, albeit exaggeratedly. “What a turn of events.”
“Jade, if you take this seriously, we'll move forward.”
I pouted and pursed my lips. He groaned.
They had the opportunity to experience the god's wrath when the werewolf fell in love with and became pregnant with a human. "
"What transpired?”
“She cursed them.”
I remained silent and continued to focus on the moon.
He said it in a low voice, almost reluctant to say, "I mean, their offspring."
"Why their child?" I asked silently too.
"I-I don’t know," his voice cracked.
I have no idea why my heart was fluttering. I turned to face him so I could see his face and see how he was doing.
I questioned while taking another look at the moon, "And so what happens to the child? What kind of curse did the god give?
What a jealous piece of crap, I mentally thought. Why is it possible for a wolf to fall in love with a god but not a human? That is purely narcissistic conduct.
“He doesn't care if god curses him or his child; God, he didn't even care if she killed him right there. But god is brilliant and smart; Selene knows the desire of his heart, so she knows how she would break him into pieces. But that's not what that wolf is most afraid of.”
Before he continued, I could feel his chest rise and fall from deep breathing.
"The human left m-my-- the wolf."
My brows furrowed.
"The human he fell in love with, left him? But you said he impregnated her already? Why did she leave him? "
Because she is unaware that he is a wolf.
My jaw fell open. It's a plot twist, huh? I can't help but admit that I have already accepted his account. He tells stories very well, I must say.
“Selene broke him. He tried hard to keep it from the human, but the god did all the work just so the human would leave him. The human ended up dying because of him as well.”
I muttered, "That's sad," as I was overcome by sadness.
It is. He had only ever loved her in his life, so when the god offered him the chance to return Selene's love in exchange for the human's life, he declined and chose to commit suicide.
It only gets gloomier and creepier. My body just started to tingle.
I couldn't help but say, "That's love."
While observing the moon's glint as you gaze up at it.
He touched my hand, "What do you mean by that?"
I grinned slightly and said, "It's amazing how love can do anything, how love could sacrifice just for anything and everything.
He hesitated before responding.
“I'll go above and beyond for you.”
Although my heartbeat was racing, I made an effort to appear normal. His heart was beating as well, I could feel it. My heart began to hurt suddenly and severely.
I wiped my tears away and cleared my throat.
I questioned, "So what has happened to their child now?"
He said, "He's been left to live in vain." Not until he experienced his curse.
My brows creased. "What do you mean?"
"A human is destined to make him fall in love, and that human is destined to be his downfall." His hold on me tightened.
I ceased talking. My thoughts were gone.
I muttered, "What kind of downfall?" under my breath.
He placed his hand on my cheek. In order for me to look at him, he gently guided me. I noticed a mix of hurt, longing, and happiness when our eyes met. I'm in such pain seeing him like that.
His mouth was lightly smiled. "That... I dunno."
I gulped, looking at his lips. He did the honor of brushing his lips against mine, rewarding me.
