Czar Gregovivk Part 2
I stay in the room in silence, looking at the mask, while she leaves, chatting non-stop. My arm moves, and I bring the drink to my mouth, raising my eyes to the magic mirror and spotting a peculiar young woman in front of me. I run my eyes over her white dress, loose on her short frame, reaching down to her ankles, her face clean without makeup, with the blackest eyes I've ever seen—completely opposite to the people in the hall, some wearing skimpy outfits and others without any clothes, trying to draw attention. But not this strange creature. She is comfortable, without a trace of makeup or even simple lipstick on her lips, her beauty enhanced by it, needing no cosmetic artifice.
She seems like a lost bird inside this barn, and I become fascinated, watching her with interest, wondering how this little bird found her way in here. I see her take another step forward and gaze at the screen in front of her on the other side of the wall. Her dark eyes gleam with curiosity. A slight movement in her lips draws my attention to her mouth, and I see her bite the corner of it, tilting her head to the side and smiling shyly, moving a little closer, like a mischievous child who can’t just look but needs to touch as well. Following her movements, I step forward and study the amused expression on her lips when she stretches out her hand and touches a spot on the screen, laughing out loud. Her body straightens, and she lifts her head, almost making me doubt whether her eyes can see me or not. Her fingers move to push her hair back, smiling shyly, before she turns and walks away.
I shift my gaze away from the mask and take a deep breath, pressing my lips together.
"Czar?" Adrien is standing in front of my desk with a small smile at the corner of his lips, watching me. "Why did you choose her?"
"I didn’t hurt her, Adrien. If that’s why you’re here, you already have your answer, and you can go back to your companions." I keep my focus on the mask, signaling the end of his visit.
"I think I managed to find the girl, cousin. She came with a member who’s under the care of the counselor from Ita..." Sieta bursts into my office, babbling non-stop, looking at the tablet in her hands. "Oh, sorry, I didn’t know Adrien was here!"
I raise my eyes to her, staring. Sieta gives me a sheepish smile and shrugs her shoulders. I hear the low sound of Adrien’s laugh, which makes me lift my head to him, staring, not understanding the smug smile on his lips.
"I’ll inform Jonathan that you’re handling this personally..."
"No need to tell that asshole Roy!" I growl angrily and shake my head.
"He already knows, Czar." Adrien takes his hands out of his pants pockets and adjusts the sleeves of his suit, keeping the teasing smile on his face. "But I think he’ll appreciate this new information."
"Son of a bitch!" I say angrily and sit back down in the chair.
Adrien extends his hand to me to say goodbye, leaning forward. As I shake his hand, I see the playful smile disappear, leaving only his serious face staring at me.
"I advise you to handle this as soon as possible," he says, giving me a concerned look. "Take care."
I remain silent, watching Adrien leave the room, saying goodbye to Sieta, while my mind processes his last words. I let my focus fall on Sieta, who is biting her lip, clutching the tablet to her chest, looking at me sheepishly.
"My bad." She takes a step forward and approaches my desk.
"Give me that damn tablet and get out of my office, Sieta!" I stretch out my arm to her, and she hands me the device before quickly retreating, closing the door behind her.
My eyes concentrate on the screen of the tablet, where the small face is captured by the hallway cameras. I zoom in on the screen, bringing her face closer, seeing her curled-up body, hugging herself.
