196 - A Lovely Flow Of Things

“We shall now move on to the next—” Lord Rosil, as if Kasar hadn't  said anything but he interrupted her again.

“We can't move on to the next. I said there is still someone who needs to be called to judgment.”

“And who might that be?” She asked, with a raised eyebrow and a glare that screamed for him to keep his mouth shut.

Kasar spoke without thinking. “The Queen, of course! I just said it. She committed  treason too. Where is she?” Then he added passionately. “The Queen should be killed. It isn't her rightful place.”

“Is that so? Valerick asked from the throne.

Kasar stiffened immediately.

He had said too much! He had spoken without thinking!

Valerick hummed, a shadow of a smile over his face as he looked down at Kasar lazily.

It was another day to clamour for the Queen's death and Kasar was determined to make the best use of it. So determined that he hadn't been able to decipher the looks he was getting from Lord Rosil and a few lords for him to shut up. But now fear was starting to crawl up his lungs and it was getting hard to feel his fingers even though he knew they were still very much attached to him; he could see them.

“I’m— I’m sorry, Your Majesty.” He fell to his knees. “I slipped.”

However, Valerick didn't react how they had feared he would. Instead, in the most convincing voice and with the most convincing look, he told them all to express their desires as he was their King and ready to do as they wanted. He asked for those who wanted the Queen dead and punished for her treasonous act to step to one side and if the majority so decided it, then a penalty shall be melted upon her besides the fact that she had almost lost her children and was almost manipulated into the White Circle.

“Her participation had steamed from a place of hatred for the King and to see Lavida fall,” they had said. But what they remained quiet about was that they hated the fur coated creature and wanted her home from the very beginning.

“Your mouth must hurt with the weight of your words.” Valerick's voice boomed when they were done stating their intentions. “I understand. Let me help you.”

Valerick moved quickly through those who had voted for the Queen’s death, leaving in his wake soulless and blood-drained bodies. Covered with his inked web and blood of vampire blood, he returned to his throne and settled in it.

He had just finished fighting a revolution, there was no way he would allow another one to grow.

Also, if they were so easily fooled then they had no place as his Lords, all they were good for was an example.

“The only one that can question my Queen is me,” he said to the rest, snapping their attention away from the horror in front of them. “Now we shall wait for the report of the guards I have sent out to search for the missing vampires. The new roles opened shall be filled with immediate effect. I shall await your recommendations. You are all dismissed.”

They stumbled out of the throne room as quickly as they could, but Lord Rosil left the room as normally as anyone would have. After all she had warned them but they chose to be stupid!

Everyone left but Nicholas.

“You know, the position of my advisor is open,” Valerick said to him, as he stood up from the throne.

Nicholas stated that he had no intention of staying but he was in fact here to get permission to leave. “My mate is to marry another in a matter of hours! She will be in the Right Province soon. I can feel it.”

“I need you here.” Valerick turned to him squarely, still looking menacing with his fangs poking out and his eyes nothing but darkness.

“My Mate is going to get hooked to someone else, joined. You know how our relationship is—”

“Is this other vampire perhaps the friend of the King?”

Nicholas frowned. Then he said bluntly, “I am your only friend.”

“Exactly.”

“Oh!” His eyes widened  with realization. “I am the friend of the King!”

Valerick nodded. “Now get me that quick communication device.”

“A phone.”

“I'll call and pass an order for a stay of any Joining Ceremony to your mate. At ease now?”

Nicholas nodded as he hurried off to get the phone and when Valerick was done making the order, Nicholas embraced him with happiness.

Then he pulled away from Valerick who looked at him awkwardly.

“We will forget that ever happened. “ Nicholas nodded. “Now, I need your help.”

“Whatever you want.” Nicholas shrugged. He was too happy to be annoyed or bothered by anything. He didn't even care that he was now stained with blood from hugging Valerick.

By the Blood, he was too happy to.

“Somewhere private,” Valerick said, leading them to a corner of the Throne room.

“Do you think being intimate would disturb the bats?” He finally asked.

“Oh, that is why you are looking radiant.”

“Be quiet. This is a secret, you must guard it with your life.”

Nicholas nodded.

“You see, she said you prescribed it.”

“It does help.”

”But does that not disturb their presence? She said it doesn't disturb them but I need to be sure.”

Nicholas chuckled, then he laughed.

Valerick frowned.

“Are you making a mockery of your King?”

“Never. He paused, trying hard to banish the smile from his lips and failing. “But sometimes, you make me laugh.”

“Is that anyway to speak to your King?” He wasn't angry though, just unsure and slightly embarrassed.

“Apologizes, your Majesty.” Nicholas smiled and threw his arm around Valerick's shoulder while leading them out of the throne room. “You are due for another lesson.”
