229 - Upon A Chance

229 - Upon a Chance.
——

Had that been a success? Maybe. They had clapped after her speech and some had gone to ask her about her people and their way of life after the event was over.

They just had to keep doing this along with the rest of their plans and they would get better results.

“You did good,” Valerick said when they were finally alone, and that just made everything ten times better.

Introducing the werewolves technological equipment, in addition to those they already had, had also helped; many young vampires were opened to change now. Not so much for the weapons though, most didn’t take an interest as Valerick had expected. Although Nicholas was very interested, so interested that he would help Valerick enough as his adviser, to free up time so he could take over from Zezi, then he would run away with his mate for shooting lessons.

And to think that there was a time he didn’t like her.

Nicholas and Irysi had a compromise which was a result of Lord Rosil interference. As one who wasn’t very content with dabbling with fate, Lord Rosil had gone to great lengths to make the union between Nicholas and Irysi possible, but if he were to use too much of his powers, the string she had used to seal the fate away might come loose. So he had been taking gun training from Zezi, and she was a great mentor.

“Of course. I’m a war General, just i case you’ve forgotten.” She would say with a smug look anytime he complimented her skills.

Ah, her ego.

But he could deal with it. His Joining Ceremony with Irysi was in a moon. Nothing would stop his happiness. Not after he had spent the whole moon begging her for his plan with Lord Rosil. It wasn’t surprising that Lord Rosil had kept his participation a secret, she was too motherly to do that, she had been like a mother to Valerick too and when he finally let her out of the dungeon, Nicholas knew that her motherly role in his life must have had something to do with it… also Zezi.

By the Blood, he liked her sometimes.

Too many things took place in the castle in one moon. It was as if the castle was trying to compensate for how still it had stayed for the three months Zezi stayed asleep.
Two moons passed, and finally, George, Delice, Zezi, and Mira went to Teeland. Valerich had been reluctant to let his family go, but what just be done just be done.

“Trust me, love, I will be fine. Besides, our connection is stronger than ever. Where I am, you are, and——”

“Where I am, you are.” Valerick had said. They shared a kiss, she bade the twins farewell, and began their journey.

It had been a long time since Zezi had been to Teeland and she wondered how she would feel when she would arrive there. She would be a new person, who had lost more than she had when she left and gained more than she had lost.

How different would Teeland be? Would they accept her? Would they accept the peace Valerick was proposing?

———
———

Well, Teeland was nothing like Zezi had left it. A few were no longer werewolves; their hatred of being changed still stayed with them, something that would take quite a while to live with. George had lived it, and he was more werewolf than most; he had plans on what to do next, and Zezi trusted that they would work. Few had risen up to be Alpha, and George had won, but as much as he wanted to be Alpha, he felt that it would make many of them uncomfortable, besides, he was now a hybrid and connected to the King of Lavida too. So he had taken in a teenager who had also competed for the role of Alpha for training. Whatever Gery’s father had seen in him when he had first entered Teeland, George had seen it in Malkron.

A funeral was held for Alpha Gery and Luna Sky.

Although George had marked Delice, he couldn’t introduce her as Luna, but instead as Mira’s mother. It wasn’t that he hated her or that he didn’t appreciate how much she had done for him; he just couldn’t for two reasons.

The first was that she was known more for being a vampire and despite her werewolf ancestry, it was too slim for a pack that was recovering from being enslaved by the vampires to bank upon. She wasn’t like George, she wasn’t once one of them, no part of her was still a werewolf to their knowledge.

The second was his relationship with her. He has permitted Ka’ik and her to be together, but it was still a work in progress to give in to the bond. They were friends, though, good parents to Mira too, that was somewhere to start.

Zezi had accompanied them here to tell the pack about Valerick’s plan of equality and encouraged low-scale tourism in Lavida, depending on the condition that Teeland would allow the same. Alpha George agreed, but murmurs grew within the Pack.

They were still angry.

She couldn’t just stay quiet, and George, as much as she wanted to convince them, just couldn’t find the right words. “People—”

“No, you carried two of the bloodsucker’s children.”

“Bonded to the King of them all!”

“And I killed the King of the Dark Times that has been weakened by that bloodsucker you refer to. I have suffered what you have suffered, I can speak.”

“From a place of bias—--”

“Let her speak!”

“Respectfully, Alpha, she cannot just come here and tell us what to do or feel. She—” Malkron stood up. He was a curly red head and more buff than other 19 year olds due to his incessant training, he had visible scars from the attempts that had been made to change him and his hatred and anger was plain for all to see, “is Queen of Lavida. She is no longer one of us.”

Arguments, came from different angles. some supporting and others. George instills fer but Delice puts it away.

“Packs of Teeland, you are angry, and I understand.” That made them quiet.

Not her.

For some that could remember, she had come with the vampire King before they had been made into slaves and now she was here, as the breeder of their alpha or what?

Delice continued. It wasn’t her place to speak; she was nobody, yet she felt the need to. She could feel George’s gaze on her with every move she made, buts he remained focused. “You are probably thinking ‘there is one of them, we should make an example of her and send her head to Lavida to show our displeasure!’ Maybe you should, that would bring great satisfaction for all you have lost.”

They exchanged glances around the room.

“Blood and more blood and more blood, it will never stop. For your pups, it will be death. It will not be a good fight for the generations to come. This option might not come again. So why don’t we just start again. They are taking a chance, let us do too. It would not be worth it if we were the ones to destroy a chance of peace for ourselves and the ones to come.” Delice looked around, Malkron sat down.

“The King of the Dark Times has dealt us all with our grief as he had dealt his people,” Zezi began to speak.  “The new King has given us his own scars in a desperate attempt to save his people from the battle he had won with his soul as a sacrifice. I know we do not trust the vampires, I know of the deaths that we have suffered at their hands, and I understand how we feel, but I also know that he is different.

Do not look at me as the Queen of Lavida, but as one of you, as the War General of Teeland, the Zeta of this pack, the one who, for all, had sacrificed herself to Lavida. The sacrifice was necessary, it made me see that we are so different after all. We were all victims of the Dark Time’s King. If they were the same, he wouldn’t grant us freedom or attempt peace. We can live a new era, we can begin a new Time, for the generations that will come after us, we can build, one of peace, of unity, and of safety. Let us give this a chance, let us give life a chance, we deserve it.”

The nodding to one another. They seemed to agree.

“And if they turn their backs against us, we will fight back with everything we have!!” George said, standing up.

“Yess!” Malkron yelled, throwing his fist to the center of the table and letting it hang in the air.

“But until then, peace.” George added his hand, stretching Malkron’s hand flat. He begrudgingly accepted. “A chance to New Era!”

“A chance of a new life,”Delice added her hand upon and George looked at her immediately. She smiled, and his brows furrowed as if he was seeing something he hadn’t  seen before, as if he was looking at a new person.
“A chance a new era” Delice smiled

“A new Time!” Zezi added her hand and others joined in at George’s command of “All hands!”

He looked at everyone and said, this is for Teelqnd. For us.”

They all raised their hands at a unanimous roar. “For us!”

Then they howled into the night.

In that moment, two things happened. Zezi knew she would miss this place and Delice knew that her place was here.
