199 - My Poor Baby Boy

“Mira—” He called out as he stepped in.

“She is asleep,” a voice answered him.  In one corner of the dimly lit room on a sofa was Aunt Alice.

“Oh, thank you, Ma.” He heaved a sigh and started heading to where he believed Mira would be asleep in bed, but Aunt Alice called out his name and he stopped.

“George?”

“Yes?”

“Are you alright?” Her voice held just as much concern as her eyes delivered.

In that moment, it felt like she could see him and his guard slipped. He dropped his shoulder, the pain still coursing through him.

“I—” He began to speak but a scent moved past his nose and rage boiled in his straining veins. He clenched his fists by either side.

He turned in the direction the scent was coming from and like a hunter, he hunted it down.

He pushed the curtains aside and as he had predicted, Delice was holding his daughter. Both of them, asleep in bed.

Anger clouded his eyes.

This fucking Bloodsucker!

He moved quickly. Ignoring Aunt Alice’s words as he yanked Delice out of bed and out of sleep.

She groaned in bed, her eyes blinking sharply to consciousness as George tossed her aside.

“I don't want to ever see you around my daughter again!”

Aunt Alice grabbed Delice before she would hit the ground. She seemed weak, like she could barely fight anything.

“Don't treat her like that. She has been in so much pain for hours.” Then she whispered to Delice. “Are you alright, Sweetheart?”

George frowned, as he raised his head from pressing a kiss to Mira’s head. “Sweetheart?” He chuckled, leaving the room but to wake Mira up. “A Bloodsucker is now a sweetheart?”

“She is a good one.” Aunt Alice's words followed him. “She means no harm. She loves Mira.”

They were no longer in the bedroom now and when he spoke, his anger dominated his voice.

“I don't want to ever see her around my daughter again.”

“She is my daughter too.” Delice finally spoke, stealing the words away from Aunt Alice. “And you will not take me away from my daughter. We have lost so much time. You will not be another Laura for me.” Her voice was so weak, her eyes glimmering with tears.

“If you remain stubborn with this, the consequences will be dire.”

“You had no problem with it before—”

“Well, I do now!” He snapped. “And you will do good to stay away.”

“I don't deserve this. You hate me for things I had no part in, punish me for crimes I did not commit.”

George frowned. Punish. She was talking about the pain and he knew it. She must know that he had done something to the mark and that was why she was in pain.

Wait.

That means it had worked. Maybe the Bloodsucker of a witch wasn't so terrible after all. From here he could see the fading mark and that brought him joy as much as it made a turmoil turn inside of him.

His wolf hadn't been active for a while, the Witch had said the beast would go into a slumber. He hoped that it would remain like that until he could finally get rid of this Stupid mate situation.

“...why are you doing this to me? I didn't even do anything to you.”

“Didn't do anything? You are the reason why wolf and I are no longer in sync. Everything would have been perfect without you. You—”

He fell into silence when he heard a yawn from Mira’s room. Everyone  stopped to listen too. It sounded like she was waking up then she fell back asleep.

“Just leave. Take your destruction along with you.”

Delice didn't say another word after that. Aunt Alice stared at George in disbelief as Delice left the room, with tears in her eyes that refused to fall.

“George…” Aunt Alice said some moments after Delivery had left.

“I don't want to hear it, Ma.” He turned his back to her.  “You used to stay by my side, now you stand by hers. Stand by the side of the Bloodsuckers, of the enemy.”

She walked around to face him. “Maybe you can for—”

“Never! I still remember every moment, everything.” He paced around the room, breathing heavily. Like he was in that moment once again, running, trying to escape. Like he could see it all over again. “I wasn't too young to just forget. I am not Zezi, I wasn't protected from it. I was the protection. Forgiveness is impossible.”

She cupped his fists in her hand.  “I understand how you feel.”

“You understand how I feel?” He yanked his hand away from her. “What do you understand? You weren't even there!”

“George.”

“Save your words, Ma! They are of no use to me.” He headed straight to the door but the pain in his body caught up with him and he was forced to stop, biting back a groan so she wouldn't know of his weakness.

“I remember how I felt after losing my child and my mate, it felt like the world stole something from me. I was incomplete, I was broken and I grieved for so long. I was mad at everyone, I felt that it was unfair. I didn't even ask for much, why must the little I have be stolen from me? I see myself in Delice, I see her with an opportunity I will never have.” Aunt Alice was in front of him once again. “Forgive me if it seems like I am not taking your side on this, but I understand how it feels for a mother to lose her child. I have been there. How would you feel if Mira was taken away from you? They have lost so many years, do not do this to them. Your daughter deserves her mother.”

“What about me?” His voice wavered. “I love my daughter and I do not want to be selfish but what about me? Everything has been stolen from me.”

“What is yours will never be stolen from you. What belongs to you might be standing right in front of you, you just have to stop being blind to see it. You still have a chance at happiness, just do not hang on to the loss of the past. Embrace the presence, there is so much light out there, you do not have to remain in the dark.” She paused and cupped his face like he was a mere child even thought he had to bend a little for that ti be possible. “I embraced the present. That is why you are in my life and I am so happy that you are—”

He pulled away, shaking his head. “No—”

“Do the same.”

“No—” his words morphed into a pained chuckle. “No.”

When she embraced him, he tried to pull away, while he shook his head, tears streaming down his face as his laughter morphed into agonizing words.

“You are no longer with me.”

“No. No.” She patted his back. “I am on your side. Your side of happiness.”

“I feel so lonely.” He was no longer fighting. Just broken, and crying in the arms of the only woman he knew as a mother.

“You are not alone, I am with you. Oh my George, my own pup. It’s okay. It's alright.x”

I don't know what to do, Ma. I am so confused, I am so tired. Please don't leave me to do this alone. I am too scared to do this alone.”

“I will never leave you. My poor son. Mother will never leave you.”

((Honestly, I feel bad for George. What do you think? Will he ever be able to accommodate Delice?))
