205 - The Long Awaited Dinner

The long awaited dinner was finally here.

The dining hall hadn't had so much life in it in a very long time, that was if it ever even had life in it to begin with.

They hadn't settled down to start dinning yet.

The Queen’s mother, along with Gwen, Valerick and Delice, was preparing the table. Valerick had met them doing that and he had offered for the servants to do it instead, but his Mate’s mother had refused and he had been left with no choice but to gladly join them in preparation of table too.

Zezi had joined them at the beginning until they realized that she was taking little bites from every plate she carried. So they gave her a snack, banished her from bringing up the food and told Mira to ensure she stayed away from the food.

Mira was certainly not the best choice because she was now seated on a chair, dozing off.

It was a good thing that she had already had her dinner.

Zezi was more than happy about this dinner. It was something to bring them all together; after everything that had happened in the Castle lately, something like this was exactly what they needed.

George wasn’t here yet though, Nicholas too. Her mother had told her that she had invited the Doctor but with what she knew of Nicholas' busy schedule this evening, he wouldn't be able to make it. She wondered what was taking George so long. Mira really wanted to show him her newly braided hairstyle that her mother had made for her.

Or maybe he wasn't going to attend the dinner because Delice was here?

That would be a really stupid thing to do. Ridiculous too.

He was probably just running late.

Zezi sighed, sitting back in her chair, while she kept a hand on sleeping Mira to ensure that she wouldn't fall off the chair in her slumber.

Laughter echoed from the kitchen and a smile lit on her face. She heard Gwen’s voice rumbling through the walls as she conveyed a joke that Zezi didn't pay enough attention to hear, then the laughter of the ‘unbanished’ team followed again.

A smile lit on her face. She could feel it in her veins, in the bond that brought them together, the happiness that Valerick was feeling right now. He was getting along with her mother and not just that, he was having a great time.

It made Zezi happy too. She felt a couple of kicks in her stomach and she brushed her free hand over her baby bump, remembering at that moment that George still wasn't here and Mira was falling deeper into sleep.

By the time he would get here for the dinner, she wouldn't be able to show her father her newly braided hairstyle.

This was so annoying.

If she could easily pick her up, and march to George’s room for that to happen, she would have done so, but picking anything up right now besides another stolen berry from that plate would be too much of a task.

She just couldn't do it, such strength was something she couldn't command in her present state.

Her gaze rested on her daughter, and she pitied her. Her sweet Mira was going through so much and she was handling it so well.

She was such a strong girl.

They were lucky to have her.

“Stop stealing our berries, Zezi,” Delice said, pulling the plate away from her reach, with a chuckle.

“Stealing berries?! I’m certainly not guilty of that. Blame them!” She pointed at her baby bump. “They are the ones stealing the berries.”

“She is right,” Gwen said as she came behind Delice, pushing the plate of berries closer to her, as she went round the table. “My Queen steals no berries.”

They chuckled as Zezi tossed another berry into her mouth.

Gwen lifted Mira off the chair easily and Zezi watched.

Wait, Gwen should get a guard to do that.

After all, she was pregnant too.

“I’m just going to tuck this one into bed before I leave.”

“Leave?” Zezi frowned as she stood up, making  Gwen stop in her stead. “You are not staying for dinner? My mother invited you, Gwen. You are family, you know that.”

“Family,” Gwen said more to herself, then to Zezi, she replied, “You are too kind, Milady.”

“You were invited for dinner, you should stay.”

“I—I can't,” she said as she patted Mira’s back gently. “I am so sorry but my mate needs me at home. I have explained the situation to your mother and taken permission from the King.”

“Alright then,” Zezi said, walking closer to her, “but before you go, tell me—

“And how is our bat?”

Gwen smiled. “Growing well.”

“You are pregnant?” Delice asked from behind.

“You can't hear the heartbeats, Milady?”

“No,” Delice said quickly, looking down at Gwen’s belly. “I hear nothing.”
