202 - I Bring You Good News

It was a thing of priority to have the important positions filled as soon as possible for the proper administration of Lavida. Overworking those available wouldn't lead to any good, so as Valerick had ordered, the lords brought in their recommendations and from the ones they had suggested, he appointed those who would fill the vacant positions.

“What?” Zezi asked, uncertain if what she had heard was the same thing Gwen had said.

“My mate is the new Governor of the left Province!”

Zezi's eyes widened with surprise and happiness. “Gwen, I am so happy for you!” She pulled Gwen into an embrace, who easily worked around her bump and wrapped her arms around her mistress as much as she could.

Gwen had been so excited about this news since her mate had told her about it late night. It had crossed her mind way too many times, to leave her bed and come here to tell her mistress all about it. It took every control to stay still and wait till morning. She was up at the crack of dawn and it took even more control to wait till it was acceptable for her to rush here. The Doctor had said her mistress needed as much rest as she could get and she didn't want to disturb her. Also, she had to wait till she was done with her meal, which took even more control than every form of discipline she had exercised in regards to this news.

She counted every second.

Finally, she had shared the news and still the rush of excitement and all the overwhelming feelings that this news brought still coursed through her veins.

“We need to celebrate this!” Zezi giggled as she pulled away and led Gwen to her dressing chair. “Where should we go?”

“Milady—”

“You must tell me how this happened,” Zezi said, as she pushed Gwen into her dressing chair. Then she sat down on the bed, so they were seated opposite each other.

“His father made a recommendation about him to the King.”

“His father?”

“He is like a father. Although many times they do not see eye to eye.” Gwen said quickly, not wanting to dwell on that. “He told me nothing of it when his father told him of his intentions to recommend him. He said that he had rejected it immediately but his father went ahead to make the recommendation, and the King chose him not just as a Lord, which his father had intended, but as the Governor of the Left Province.”

Zezi nodded along with a smile. How had Valerick not said anything to her about this. Maybe because recently, he would always leave early in the morning before she was fully awake and return when she was too tired and sleepy. Although at this stage of her pregnancy, that was starting to become everytime.

“Why didn't he want it?”

“Zyon… well, ever since the battle that ended the Dark Times and the way his service to the last King had ended leaving him… well, damaging his leg,” she paused and Zezi remembered immediately that when she met him, he had a limp about his movement.

So that was where he had gotten that.

“He has been avoiding getting back into the system.”

“Does he still feel the same about it now?”

She shook her head. “I spoke to him. We might never get this kind of opportunity again. I know he is capable of running the Left Province effectively. He had been tasked with tasks like that under the former King’s administration and well…” she tapped her fingers against the other. “Please do not tell the King of my mate’s doubts, he no longer has them.”

Zezi smiled and nodded. “Who doesn't have doubts every now and then? Besides, I understand him.”

Gwen nodded, then tears fogged her sight. “I am going to miss you so much, Milady.” Her lips trembled as she spoke.

Zezi's began to cry too.

She hadn't thought about it before but since Gwen’s mate is the Governor of the Left Province, it meant that she would have to leave to the Left Province with her family.

“I am going to miss you too. Oh by the Moon, I am going to miss you so much.”

“It is too sad that our bats will not get to play as much as I have planned.”

“We can always make time, celebrations—” Zezi wiped her tears away but more came rushing down her face. Then she stood up and brushed her fingers through Gwen’s hair. “Pay me visits, will you?”

Gwen looked up at her with teary eyes. “Everytime I can. Every time that there is which is mine, will be yours. Remember, I am your Gwen.”

Zezi nodded as she whispered tearfully. “My Gwen.”

Gwen stood up wiping away her Mistress' tears as she did hers. “Now do not let us cry, it is good news. I will pay you lots of visits, maybe with the whole support group this time.”

“I can't wait to meet all of them. I will stop by at the Left Province as much as I can too. It will be wonderful,” Zezi laughed, the tears still rolling down her cheeks.

She just couldn't stop crying.

She had grown so attached to Gwen. What would life be without her Gwen?

“I have another piece of good news.”

“What is it?”

“Can't you hear it, Milady?” She pressed Zezi’s hand against her flat belly. “A second heartbeat.”

Zezi’s eyes widened. “You are pregnant?”

Gwen nodded and smiled.

“By the Moon. Yesssssss!”

Glad had always wanted another bat. This time she had believed having another bat would make a good friend for Mistress’ bats. However, things have changed. Despite that, finding out that she was pregnant filled her with so much joy!

Her mate had heard the first heartbeat.

Last night was the beginning of a lot of great news.

“Let us celebrate!” Zezi yelled and Gwen giggled.

Celebration.

Oh how lovely that was.
