213 - Two Peas In A Tensed Pod

Met with silence, George was certain that Delice had no other plans besides this.

He would have to think of something. If only there was a way for him to communicate with Zezi, if only there was a way for him to speak to her, pass a message to her.

Do something!

Anything!

They had known each other for so long. He knew she was angry, but despite that, if only he could explain Delice’s connection, the things she had seen, and what he believed was going on. She would listen to him. She would speak to the King, they would find the real culprit, and all this would be over, allowing him the needed time to grieve.

He was worried about his daughter.

With Zezi broken, Delice here with him, and Aunt Alice dead, who was looking after Mira?

His poor daughter was caught in between too many things.

He felt a touch on his arm and he flinched slightly before relaxing a little when he realized Delice was the one that had touched him. He frowned at Ka’ik’s excitement and his obvious presence that she could see through his eyes. What infuriated him most was that he wasn't angry at her touch.

He was just too tired to be anything.

“Your wounds must be taken care of,” she said, almost quietly.

His wounds, he had forgotten about those.

Was Mira awake now? She probably was. If she wasn't, the King would have taunted him for killing his daughter.

“You are in two in one, you should be healing,” she leaned back, only to hold his gaze, “but you are not.”

She was right.

Once again, that was something he was only just noticing.

She stood up, pacing around the room as she thought out loud about what could be wrong with him.

George watched, noticing at that moment how brave she was.

The Process was changing him a lot and there were so many things he couldn't predict about himself. He could be dangerous at any moment. However, she had risked her safety and her place in Castle, having faced the trial she had faced recently, all for him.

She was risking too much, he didn't deserve it.

“They look like wounds from a Volaky’s claws but there are no longer any Volaky in the Castle,” she hummed, “or anywhere else. George?”

He stilled.

Had she ever called him his name before?

Maybe?

He couldn't remember.

But this one he would. It sounded different, and it held his attention, stringing feelings in him that should remain untouched.

“Yes?” His voice didn't betray him.

“Do you remember anything about the other presence?” she asked as she moved closer to him with a first aid kit he was only now noticing.

She sat down next to him, closer this time, and got down to treating him.

Remember?

He had been trying to do that since she had told him about it, but he couldn't. All he had remembered was that there was indeed another presence in the Hall.

He shook his head and Delice took note of that.

George was scared of one thing.

He was scared of anyone thinking that he had intentionally tried to wipe his memory of what had happened because he had done it to Delice in the past.

What if she was starting to entertain the thoughts that he might be guilty, and it was happening all over again?

As Delice cleaned his wounds though, one thought occurred to her.

Was George really telling the truth?

His lack of remembrance of a particular thing couldn't really confirm anything. He was capable of making himself forget something, along with others involved.

He had done so before.

Wasn't that how they had both forgotten that they had met before?

As much as she was certain of what she had seen, she had to tread with caution with George.

His feelings towards her were still uncertain.

She had to be very careful.

If he were to get angry here, he would easily kill her within these walls with no one knowing.

“I didn't do anything to my memory, I promise.”

Delice smiled. “I wasn't thinking that.”

The room fell into silence for a while, each weary of the other and Ka’ik displeased with the turn of events.

Would this ever end, or were things about to get worse?
