212 - Enemies Within The Walls
“What baby?” The doctor had said.
It was a hasty decision that she had probably lost her child during the incident that happened in the Hall of Statues but Gwen refused to believe that. She could still hear the heartbeat of her baby and feel the presence of her bat in her womb.
Maybe the doctor was suffering from the same illness that sweet Lady Delice was suffering from.
Many bats, while they were in the womb, would have heartbeats; it was like a gift for their mother since their kind weren't blessed with such a present. On their birth, though, they would be one like them, and slowly, the drumming of their hearts would fade away.
Maybe her bat was different, like the unique ones that lose their beats right from the womb.
The doctor's special equipment should be able to pick it up, though, but the doctor was in a hurry, and before she could press him to conduct more checks on her, he had left.
He could keep his condolences, she didn't need it!
Her bat was alive and she could feel it.
By the Blood, that was all that was needed.
As Gwen rested back on the bed, her eyes fixed on the walls and the curtains of the ward, she remembered the one who needed this condolence the most.
The Queen must be shattered. It was a great loss to lose her mother. Aunt Alice was wonderful, at least she had been while they were preparing for the dinner.
Gwen couldn't wait for her to get better so she could leave here and see the Queen.
At this moment, she would need all the comfort she could get and Gwen was willing to provide it.

The search for the traitor and her abnormal hybrid of a mate was still going on.
Reports had reached the King that they still hadn't been found. In fact, there was no trace of them.
The King had directed the guards to search the meeting place of the White Circle and any hidden tunnels that could be connected to it. They had only been missing for less than an hour, they couldn't have gone far. In fact, it was of a high possibility that they were still in the Castle.
Despite the intensity of the search, Valerick kept the real situation of the Castle a secret from Zezi. It was easy for him to do that. After all, she was grieving too much to listen to anything. Instead, he provided her comfort and when she sought for a place to weep, he provided his shoulders.

Who would go back to hide in a place they had been ambushed?
It was stupid and not strategic at all.
That was what the guards who had searched the meeting place of the now non-existent White Circle, because of this belief, they hadn't paid close attention to the walls to observe the highly concealed passageway that led straight to the place Delice and George were hiding.
So they left to turn back the return that their search for futile, unknown to them that the enemies were within the walls.

Delice hated everything about this room. It was the room Laura had hidden Oliver after faking his death. She hated Laura and everything that reminded her of that cruel princess. The friendship they had should have never existed to begin with, it would have avoided so much of the misery she had been forced to experience.
Staying here made her feel nervous and it didn't help that everywhere was littered with sex objects. Collars, chains and more. This was a sex dungeon.
Heat rose to her cheeks, but she ignored the uneasy feeling; then she turned to George, who was seated at the edge of the bed, his shoulders filled with tension.
“They are gone,” she whispered and he nodded with relief.
“We can't keep hiding here. They will find us eventually. Do you have anything planned?”
Delice stepped away from where she had been standing next to the wall, she sat down at the edge of the bed, a good distance away from him as much as the furniture could allow.
She did have another plan but she wasn't sure it would work.
Before coming to visit George in the dungeon, she had written a letter to Doctor Nicholas and Lord Rosil about the existence of another's presence in the Hall of Statues. How her relationship with George was different, something she could attribute to the way his body had accepted the Process that was conducted on him. She had explained everything except give away where they were or her plans to rescue George.
She just hoped that they would find the letters soon and not just that, she hoped that they would believe her and be able to convince the King too.
Their time in the wall was ticking quickly by, if the King should decide to conduct this search himself, he would find them in no time and kill them without question.
Her hopes were resting heavily on vampires who didn't even know of it.
If they would survive out of this alive, only time would tell.
