Chapter 21

Max searched the room frantically for some sort of opening so that he could rip these chains off and escape, this will cause him considerable pain as the chains were coated in poison, but it was pain he was willing to go through as he knew that Jared was being sincere, that he would kill him and Darley to finish what his grandparents started.

What he didn’t understand was that Rachel was helping him, and he knew that she didn’t share the same views, she and Darley and Jessie had been friends since they were babies, so why would she do this and betray everyone that has ever loved her. As he was searching his ears perked up as he heard someone quietly coming down the stairs, he could smell her. He could smell the fear and the betrayal she felt.
The door opened and in walked Rachel, her head bent and her eyes to the floor.

“Why?” He asked.

“He is my mate, I don’t really have a choice.” Rachel said, she knew what she was doing will get her done for treason. But she felt an obligation towards him.

“That’s not much of a reason, she is your best friend, more like sister then anything.” She nodded.

“I know she is.” She said, then she sighed.

“What do I do, one way or another he wants you guys dead. But I don’t want that.” She said. She didn’t, why would she want to see the people she loves dead? But then, what happens to Jared. If he doesn’t kill them then he will feel as though he has failed his family, she knows what he’d do and she doesn’t want this either.

“Rachel, this guy is crazy. He is trying to get rid of a whole wolf race, this just happens to include your life-long friend, and subsequently your Alpha, how can you just stand back and watch this.” Max said.

“Because, you would if your mate was doing these things and would die if he didn’t.” She walked to the door.

“I’m sorry. But you only have 20 minutes until the deadline. Then, you’ll both be dead.” She walked out, the door slamming behind her.

Max looked towards the ceiling, what was he meant to do now.

The car stopped just outside the clearing that would lead to the building where Max was being kept, I looked towards it, I knew that what I was about to do was so dangerous, yet we needed to do it. I looked over to Lucinda.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked, she nodded.

“You gave me something I never thought I would have so I owe you one. And I did nearly kill you.” She shrugged, then smiled at me. We’ve got this.
We got out of the car, and slowly started to walk towards the building, when I heard a noise. I looked around, and two shadows were moving. Lucinda moved and got into a fighting pose, and I got ready to change. Until I saw their faces.

“I heard you may need some backup.” Jessie called. She ran and hugged me.

“How did you guys know?” Jessie looked at Lucinda.

“I got a call, and I knew something was off with Rachel for weeks, so when Lucinda called it all made sense. So come on, let’s go beat these crazy bitches down.” We all walked towards the building. Not knowing what was about to happen.

Jared was pacing, it was time. She should be here soon then his lifelong mission to rid the world of Gold wolves will be complete, he was listening out for footsteps but his hearing hasn’t been great since he and his wolf fell out 3 years ago when he took this on.

Jared’s wolf did not agree with what Jared was planning, he didn’t agree with purposely killing another wolf based on fur colour. So, he stopped talking to Jared, although Jared can still change into his wolf, it is never his wolf talking. Its only him, but his wolf cannot stop him from changing, he can just stop him from using the extra powers such as speed, hearing and scent. It was his wolf’s way of punishing him.
Rachel came through the door that lead to where Max was being kept. Jared looked up, his crazy eyes landed on his mate. But, he was so focused on the mission he didn’t care about her.

“Why were you down there?” He growled, she looked down.

“Making sure he could not get loose, sir.” Her hands were folded in front of her, she felt so small around him. She knew this wasn’t love, and so did her wolf. But her wolf too had fallen out with her. The two wolves didn’t want to be a part of this

“Good.” He nodded, his plan is coming together.

Lucinda was figuring out how to get Max out of there, she was going to have to use a lot of power, and she knew this. But, she owes Darley and Max they were the ones that helped release her from the ties of her father, they helped her get to her pack and Darley had to be injured for them to do it. But now, Lucinda is the happiest she has ever been, with her brothers pack and her human mate by her side.

As they walked up, all of them were worried, hoping that Max was still alive and Jared hadn’t killed him yet as the mate link between him and Darley hadn’t been opened in a while. They got in eyesight of the building, then they stopped and stood in a line.

The door suddenly opened, and Jared stepped out, his face contorted with a predator smile, his eyes were wild.

“Hello, everyone. I think it’s time for you to die.” Then he ran, blade in hand.
