Chapter 27

The Queen was dead, long live the Queen.

It had been 2 weeks since the attack on the castle, and Max was itiching to fight. They had recieved word that it was an inside job, the way the bombs were planted it couldn't have been anything else. It was someone the Queen trusted, which made this entire thing worse.
Darley doesn't leave Snows side, shes there constantly incase something happens, shes over protective and Max was worried about her mental health, he knew she was grieving and he didn't know how to help.

They are under constant supervision in one of the many safe houses dotted around the country, her mother and father were also there along with Jake, Maddie and the baby, Maddie went into labour as the bombs went off. They said it was stress, but the baby boy is fine and they are as happy as they can be within the circumstances. Stacey hasn't talked much since the incident, she had a mother taken from her a long time ago, she only just got her back and now she's gone. But this time for good.

Max is itching to do something, but he can't. They are now on the world stage and if he was to be seen changing then the secret will be out and their existence will forever be known. That would be the worst thing to come next, first the bombing then the world finding out that wolves exist isn't the best move.

Every service was on it, they were investigating the bombing. MI6, The police service, the foreign office, and America has sent some FBI and CIA agents to help. They know this was an attack, and they could be next. They are going to do what they can, they knew it was weird someone came up to both Darleu and Max it's just figuring out who. They also know why, they wanted to keep them in the blast area they wanted them dead.
On top of this there was something else to discuss. Who should be next, Nathan has decided to stay in France. He's met a girl, and has decided to settle there for a year, obviously returning for the funeral and any other ceremony, then return but this means he cannot be King, which he says is something he never wanted anyway. So, it does down to Darleys mother but in all honesty she doesn't want it either, she never imagined becoming Queen nevermind it happening because her mother has been killed.
Max knew there was a possibility he would be King, he doesn't know if Maddie and Jake will decide to as they are next in line but if they turn it down there's no one else but them two to do the job.

He didn't really know if he wanted to be King, he knew he couldn't do both and the pack would end up being Maddie's. So it's either he be King or he be Alpha, it's a choice he never thought he'd have to make.

He walked upstairs to see his newlywed. She was in the nursery, Snow and D were fast asleep, rocking on the rocking chair facing the window. They'd fallen asleep together. He looked at his love and his child, he was filled with love. And then anger that someone wanted to hurt them, he wanted to do something but he couldn't. He promised her.

He put the baby in her cot, and then carried his wife to their bed. Her sleeping face, after her ordeal makes him happy. When she sleeps she isn't thinking about the fact someone tried to kill her.

He went downstairs, he checked with the security outside, they were still on guard and he locked the door. He was sitting on the sofa watching the TV when he heard screaming.

He shot up and bolted upstairs, what the fuck was that.
He ran towards his bedroom, and found his wife withering and screaming in her bed. He grabbed her and held her, until she stopped. She was having nightmares, he hadn't heard her do this since Jared was alive and he kidnapped Max, when they were back she would scream evernight. Seeing Rachel dying all over again.

Then, it clicked.

It couldn't be anyone else, it was someone they trusted, someone who was allowed in the castle whenever they wanted. Someone who helped them plan the wedding. Someone who knew every inch of the castle, and where it was best for the bombs to go. There wasn't anyone else.

It was Mary. Rachel's mother.
