Chapter 10
Mia's POV
My leg felt like it was on fire. The pain was burning all the way up from my shin to my hip. I opened my eyes and it was like the pain intensified and I felt the colour leave my face when I risked a glance. There was an arrow sticking out of my leg. Blood pooled around the metal tip that seemed buried deep into my leg muscle and I felt myself start to shake which cause more pain. Tears started falling down my face and I turned my face away from the gruesome sight that was once my leg. It was then that I noticed I was on a sofa. It was a nice sofa too. A dark leather sofa with engraved wooden legs. I looked around the rest of the room and saw that I was in a cabin. A large stone fireplace stood blazing against the south wall, large fur rugs covered most of the polished wood floor.
I heard a creak come from my left and I shot my head round to be met by the most beautiful person I had ever seen. He stood tall on the stairs dressed in a plain black shirt and skinny jeans that had seen better days but still looked good on him. His dirty blonde hair a messy mop on his head that he ran his hand through and a small bit of water dripped off a strand that hung over his eyes. He watched me steady and I followed his movements with my eyes as he made his way down the rest of the steps and made his way over to the sofa.
"I had hoped that you would have been out longer so I could remove my arrow without a fight." His voice was deep but smooth and he had an accent that reminded me of a song Master used to play when he was working. "Oh well I'm just going to have to do it while you're awake. Just try not to move too much."
i didnt even have time to register what he said before his hand shot out and grabbed the arrow. He pulled hard and it came out with a wet squishy sound. I screamed out from the pain and the windows of the cabin shook a bit as my eyes rolled back and I felt power surging through me. The man looked shocked and his eyes went wide as he stepped back.
Dalton's POV
The pain from having the arrow pulled out woke me up and I quickly took over knowing Mia wouldn't be able to handle the pain alone. My scream shook the cabin and the man steeped back in fear. He should be scared. He did this to us. I snarled at him and put my hands over the wound on my leg and focused my power. Heat burned through my palms and after a few minutes I removed my hands to find the hole was healed. I tested my leg by bending it and I slowly stood up putting weight on it. It felt fine but as soon as I stood up I felt a wave of dizziness hit me hard and I had to sit down again. I scowled as I knew that even with my power controlling the body we weren't going to get very far without food, water and rest. I had almost pushed this body to its limit and I instantly felt bad for Mia. If I could feel how worn out we were I dread to think how it feels for her.
I was snapped out of my thoughts by the man moving backwards still holding the arrow in his hand. "What are you?" He asked and I could see the fear on his face.
"Your scared." I stated and my voice came out deep and rough which seemed to shock him more as he can see a timid girl. "Funny I didn't know vampires could be scared. The others we fought off didn't seem to be."
"The others? You've fought other vampires? That's not possible the others are stronger I couldn't even fight them." He said and took another step back.
I don't know why but something about him seemed to intrigue me. Maybe because he was clearly a vampire but he seemed different to the others we've come across. Weaker, smaller even. After a minute of silence I found myself saying, "I'm Dalton and this is Mia." I gestured to my body as I said Mia.
He looked confused as I figured he would. I explained to him the situation before he could ask. "I live in Mia's mind sometimes I can take over and give her strength, speed, healing abilities. I got her away from the other vampires who wanted to hurt her and it was me you shot with the arrow." The man looked at the arrow still in his hand and he walked over to the sink and threw it in.
"I'm Michael. Sorry about the arrow I was hunting and I thought you were a deer." He kept his eyes on mine as he kept his distance. "I'm a vampire yes but I don't drink human blood. Never have, never will. I built this cabin with a friend of mine and now its just me who lives here."
"You don't drink human blood?" Michael shook his head. "Ok I'm trusting you on this..Michael. I'm going to let Mia take over again since there seems to be no danger but if you hurt her I'll see and I won't hesitate to stake you with a chair leg." I growled at him and I let my power slowly fade away as I went back into the darkness as Mia took hold and I watched as she introduced herself and smiled at Michael. I still don't trust him but I need to rest my powers and Mia needs to rest too.
"We'll be OK Dalton." Mia whispered and I felt her smile.
*Yeah we will be.* I responded to her and I knew she could feel my hug. Michael better watch himself because I won't let anyone hurt Mia. She might not know who I am but I know who she is and I will protect her until the end. She is our future.
