Chapter 11
Mia's POV
It had onlt been a few hours since Dalton healed my leg but I felt so much better. Michael seemed nice though be was a bit weary of me still. He was currently cooking something in the kitchen. that smelt amazing. I exited the bathroom after having a shower. Michael showed me how to work it and it was nice to finally get the dirt and blood off my skin. Michael found out some clothes from his previous roommate for me to wear and they smelt very familiar but I couldn't think why.
I followed my nose to the kitchen and I found Michael at a stove frying some sort of meat. He looked up as I came in and I saw him smirk a little since the clothes were huge on my small figure. I instantly wrapped my arms round myself and I touched my neck where my collar was still hanging on. I gingerly sat down on a stool at the kitchen island.
"This house is really nice. I like all the woodwork." I said quietly. Michael turned to look at me and smiled.
"Thank you I built it myself. Carved all the furniture, built everything from scratch. I had help from my roommate but he wasn't very good." I saw a flash of sadness in his eyes when he mentioned his roommate.
"You are very talented then sir." I said and he winced.
"Please don't call me sir. Michael or Mike is fine. I don't want anything to do with the human trade. I don't agree with the rest of my kind. Just because we are older and stronger doesn't mean we are superior. I preferred the old days when we lived with humans not above them."
"Vampires used to live with humans?" I asked. I had been reading books on human history in the library at Master's house but I had never seen that humans lived with vampires just that they had ruined everything in the world and vampires took over to save the world and humans were deemed too dangerous to rule which is why vampires took control.
"Yes we lived amongst humans for 200 years before we took over. The humans didn't know. Well some of them did but we were mainly considered to be fake or as monsters that didn't really exist. Just a bad story to tell children on scary nights. The humans who knew about us were sworn to not say anything but they thought that the world had a right to know so they made us into books and movies. Soon everyone knew about vampires but they didn't believe we were real. Some people twisted the stories too, made out that we would burn or sparkle in sunlight, couldn't eat garlic, slept in coffins. Some even thought that we wore capes and could turn into bats." Michael laughed as he flipped the meat over in the pan.
"I read about some of those myths in Master's library." I said without thinking and Michael stopped to look at me.
"Master? You're owned by a vampire?" He took the meat off the heat and stared at me and his eyes locked onto my collar.
I shifted uncomfortably I my seat. "I...erm...I was but I ran away..there was this hospital place...its where I met Dalton and Master was going to take me home but Dalton decided we needed to run instead. It's why we were running when you shot us." I looked up from my hands to see Michael looked shocked. "but Dalton masked our scent so they couldn't follow us." I said quickly.
Michael looked at me a bit longer not saying anything and then he grabbed a plate and put the cooked meat onto it and slid it over to me. "Eat up and once you've got your energy back you can leave." He turned on his heel and walked out the room. I head the front door slam shut and I instantly felt cold and alone. Dalton was resting and I picked at the meat on my plate suddenly not feeling very hungry.
Michael was gone for hours. I felt bad as it was my fault he left. I just had to open my mouth. I was filled with nervous energy and decided to clean up for Michael as a thank you for letting me stay. I washed up the plates and pans in the kitchen, wiped down the sides and mopped the floors. I had just finished scrubbing the blood off the sofa and was emptying the bucket of water when I heard the door open and footsteps approach me.
I stood still with my back to him shaking. He told me to eat and leave but I was still here. He's going to be mad and kill me. I knew I should have just left but I wanted to clean up first. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jumped. I hadn't noticed he had gotten closer to me or that I had started crying until he turned me around to face him and he wiped a tear from my face. I looked up confused as I thought he might have been mad at me but instead his blue eyes seemed sad.
"I'm glad you're still here. I was worried that you would have left when I said and the whole time I was hunting I kept thinking about how you wouldn't survive out here alone. Even with your body guard Dalton. Don't leave. I'm not into the whole human trade and owning thing but if you want to stay here with me you can. I'll provide for you and help you to get healthy again. I have a spare room you take." He rambled on and I felt myself slowly relax when I realised he wasn't mad and I silenced him.
"Thank you Michael that would be nice." I smiled at him and before either of us could say something there was a knock at the door. Michael looked confused and went to open it as I trailed behind him. I saw him standing at the door and all his muscles were tensed. He didn't say anything as I came up behind him and looked past his arm. There standing on the doorstep was Master. His eyes darted to mine and I held my breath. "Michael how good to see you again and I see you have found my Mia."
