the surprise
Mia's POV
I followed Sabrina around the lush gardens towards what looks like a shrine. The gardens are amazing. Each hedge was cut into towering swirls and there was a marble fountain every 10 ft. It amazes me how such a thing exists let alone that I rule it.
From what I can tell as well as the palace there is a whole city probably an entire world here but I have yet to leave the palace grounds.
We get to the shrine and Sabrina waves her hand over the door and says something under her breath. The marble door opens and a dust cloud is disturbed.
"This place is sacred to us and it has not been opened since the day of your birth." Sabrina says and she enters the shrine.
I follow and what I see is amazing. I was expecting tombs and old torches but its actually more like a living room.
The floor is carpeted in thick velvet and there is a chandler of glass that sends rainbow lights dancing around the walls. There are paintings on the walls and I see two people in the paintings.
"These show the lives of the royals. This is your parents story." Sabrina says and starts to narrate each painting.
"This one," she points at the first painting that shows a man and woman holding hands. "This is the day your parents met it is also the day of their marriage. In the royal family all marriages are arranged and the couple don't meet until the day of the wedding."
"Wait does that mean I will have an arranged marriage?" I ask. I hope not.
"No you will not but only because you parents decided way before your birth to end that tradition. Mainly your mother. She never took to the royal rules and decreed them useless once she became queen." Sabrina smiled slightly and shook her head. "Your mother never was one to follow the rules. Always getting herself and your father in trouble."
"Did you know them well?" I ask and look up at the portrait of my parents.
"Oh yes I was your mother's best friend even before the marriage. I knew her right up to the end." I saw her wipe a small tear from her eye. "You look exactly like your mother though I can see you have your father's eyes. Full of mischief."
I smile to myself and look around the rest if the room. "What is this place?"
"This is where your parents lived. They king and queen at the time of your parents marriage didn't permit them to live in the palace so they lived here. When your parents took over the throne they moved unto the palace but they still came here when they wanted to be alone. It is also the place where you were born."
"What happened to my parents?" I ask but I dreaded the answer.
Sabrina took a deep breath. "After you were born the kingdom was thrilled. You were the first daughter to be born into the royals in almost a thousand years but that also brought with it sorrow." Sabrina paused. "There is a family on the outskirts of the kingdom and their daughters have always married the princes. When you were born, their daughter couldn't marry to the royals. Well they weren't happy to say the least and when things started getting bad your mother told me to take you somewhere safe. I took you to earth as I knew that no one could follow you and I gave you to the first human I came across. When I got back to this realm your parents were gone and everyone assumed they were dead."
"The pet breeder. I was raised at the breeding grounds but there was always this one guard who was nicer than the others then I got shipped off to the pet store." I filled in. Everything made sense now except for one thing. "Where did Dalton come from?"
"Now that is because of who you are. Daughters born into the royal family are special as they are born with entities. The entity usually presents its form when the daughter is around 2 years old and they grow up together and are mentally linked. The reason the daughters have it is because they are emotionally stronger than the males but they are physically weaker so they develop a second person. A bodyguard if you will. The entity will protect the female its entire life and after the female dies it will live on in spirt form until the next daughter is born. However though its the same entity it is completely different as it reflects who the daughter is on the inside. Dalton is everything you are on the inside presented in a physical form and though the entity itself is the same one passed down through the years Dalton is unique only to you and he won't remember or even know that he has been here before." Sabrina explained. "But as you were on earth he couldn't take form until a great surge of power flooded your body. Here in this realm the atmosphere is pure energy so he would have formed years ago had you been brought up here." Sabrina waved her hand through the air and I saw a blue lightning energy pass around.
"Why me? Why am I the only daughter to be born?" I sat on one of the sofas and stared around the room and noticed there were a lot of books stacked everywhere and made a mental note to search through them to find answers at some point.
"A daughter is rare and it is believed that a daughter is only born when the royal bloodline has been diluted as a good way to put it. When the son marries a daughter from outside the royal family and they have kids the bloodline gets watered down through each generation. The daughter however is pure royal and they are born when the royal family needs to be reset in a sense."
Sabrina started to get a bit restless and I figured it was time to go. My head was swimming with all the new information I'd been given and I couldn't wait to tell Michael. "Thank you Sabina for bringing me here." I stood up and hugged her and she seemed a bit taken aback.
"That's ok now here's the key. This place is yours to come and go as you please." Sabrina handed me a large gold key and the handle was a huge diamond and there were tiny rainbows from where the light hit it.
"Thank you." I decided to go back to the palace and find Michael.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I opened my bedroom door to find it dark and I turned on the light to find Michael setting up a table by my window.
"What's all this?" I asked and shut the door.
"Well I figured we haven't had a date in ages and I wanted to do something nice." He smiled and I felt my heart flutter. I watched him light the candles. "I've sent for two steak dinners to be brought up from the kitchen and these are for you." He handed me a huge bouquet of white and red tulips.
"Tulips my favourite flower." I ran my fingers over the delicate petals. "Thank you." I hugged him and kissed him deeply.
Placing the flowers on the bed I wrapped my arms around his neck deepening the kiss and heard him growl in his throat. I could feel his fangs extend slightly as I ran my tongue across his lips.
A knock at the door makes us both jump and we stand back breathless. Michael opens it and takes two silver platers off someone and then sets them on the table.
"My lady dinner is served." He bowed and held out his hand and I took it giggling.
I sat at the table and just as I was about to lift the lid off the plater I looked over and saw Michael kneeling down by my chair.
"Mia I love you so much and after all we have been through and what you have done for me I would like nothing more than to make you happy for the rest of your life. Would you do the honors of becoming my wife?" Michael asked and he opened a small black box and my world just stopped.
