Michael's POV
I walked out the huge palace doors leaving my boss behind me. I saw Mia and Sabrina walking through the gardens and headed in the opposite direction towards the palace walls.
Heading out of the gate I walked into the kingdom that surrounded the palace. I've never been outside the palace grounds since we got here but I was sure it would be easy to find what I'm looking for.
Every where I went people were staring at me. Maybe because I was a stranger or maybe because I was in uniform and bore the royal symbol on my back. I smiled politely at everyone as I passed.
A small girl was running down the street and bumped into me falling over. I held out my hand to lift her up and her mother came running over.
"Oh my I'm so sorry Sir. She didn't mean to." She apologized and sounded almost scared.
"Its alright no harm done." I smiled and helped the girl to her feet and checked to make sure she was ok. "Just make sure to look where you are going. Wouldn't want you to fall and get hurt."
The mother looked at me almost in shock. "No Sir wouldn't want that." She said warily.
"I have to get going now. Have a good day Ma'am." I smiled at the mother and started to walk.
"And you Sir." I heard them reply.
'I wonder why she sounded so scared when her daughter ran into me. It wasn't like I was going to hurt her. It was only an accident. Maybe guards of the palace are a bit intimidating.' I thought to myself as I headed towards a flower shop.
Inside I was baffled by how many types of flowers there were and none of these flowers could be found on earth. I picked out a bunch that resembled roses but have the heads of tulips. They were beautiful and I knew Mia would love them so I got 2 bunches.
"How can I help you Sir?" A young woman asked me behind the counter and I saw her smile drop a little when she saw the royal symbol and she looked down at her hands. Maybe the royal family aren't as good as I thought if everyone was afraid of them.
"Good morning I'd like to buy these please." I placed the flowers on the counter and gave her my best smile to show I wasn't scary.
"Of course Sir. Would you like them wrapped for you?" She asked and kept her eyes on the flowers.
"That would be lovely thank you." I said and picked put a purple wrapping. "How much does it come to?" I asked. I'd been given a pay check at the start of the week and had a fair amount of money from it.
"Oh no I couldn't accept your money Sir. Someone as high up in the ranks as you couldn't possibly spend money on these." She handed me the flowers.
I took them and since she wouldn't let me buy them I put what I presumed to be the right amount for them in her tip jar instead. "Thank you have a nice day." I smiled at her again and saw how shocked she was that I'd put almost 100 Linbucks in her tip jar.
"Thank you Sir have a great day." She said and waved as I left.
I do rather like this small kingdom. All the people seem friendly enough once they get passed the uniform. I wonder how the other guards treat them to make them so scared.
I headed to the jewelers and picked out the best ring I could find. It was silver with a large ruby on top and I paid to get it engraved. "To my one love. Always and forever."
"Must be a lucky lady to have such finery brought for her Sir and from a palace guard too." The jeweler commented. "I'm sure she'll like the ring." He chuckled
"I'm sure Mia is going to love this." I said as the jeweler passed it over to me and he stopped laughing.
"Mia Sir? As in Queen Mia?" The man asked.
"Yes Queen Mia. The ring is for her." I said as I put the last of my money on the counter.
"Your proposing to the Queen?" He asked.
"Yes Mia and I have been dating for a while and I want to make sure she has the perfect life." I smile as I rub my thumb over the ring.
"Just be careful now Sir. Not just anyone can marry the Queen. I hope for your sake that you have thought this though."
I thought about the jewelers warning over and over as I walked back up to the palace. What did he mean by that?
I went to the kitchens in the palace first. It was getting dark and I knew Mia would be back soon and I wanted to get everything set up.
"Hey Aubrey." I said to the head chef.
"Good evening Michael. What can I do for you?" She wiped her hands on her apron.
"I'd like to set up something special for Mia tonight what do you recommend?" I leant against the side.
Since being here I've made friends with a lot of the staff and from all of them Aubrey is the only one who approves of my relationship with Mia and respects me as a person instead as just the guard. "How about I make you both a medium rare steak dinner with seasoned potatoes, oven vegetables and my special gravy?" She said and started pulling out different pots.
"That sounds amazing Aubrey thanks." I stand up straight. "I best start setting up before she comes back."
"Hang on lover boy." She puts her hand on my shoulder to stop me. "You aren't going anywhere without this." She gets me a bucket of ice, some champagne and two glasses. "If your going fancy you go all out." She winks at me.
"Cheers Aubrey your the best." I tap her back.
"Yeah I am now get out my kitchen and go set up your date."
"Yes Ma'am." I laugh and give her a fake sault that gets me a slap on the shoulder before she starts preparing dinner.
I take the stair two at a time and get into mine and Mia's shared room. I pull a table to the front of the window and set up the chairs. In one of the cupboards I find a spare sheet and use it as a table cloth.
I take the flowers and put one bunch in a case on the table and at a last minute thought I pull the petals off the other bunch and scatter them on the floor and table too. I put the stems in the bathroom sink to sort out later and find some scented candles on the side of the bath that I set up around the room and light.
I put the ring in my pocket and make sure the champagne is ready on the table. I open the balcony doors a little to give the room a bit of night air and I see the moon is starting to rise turning the sky a deep blue that contrasts with the orange on the horizon from the setting sun.
I breathe in deeply. This is it.
The door opens and I turn to see a very happy and shocked Mia. She turns on the light and shuts the door.
"What's all this?" She asks as she steps closer to me.
"Well I figured we haven't had a date in ages and I wanted to do something nice." I smile at her and relight some of the candles that got blown out when I opened the doors to the balcony. "I've sent for two steak dinners to be brought up from the kitchen and these are for you."
I pick up the flowers in the vase and pass them too her. "Tulips my favourite flower." I didn't want to tell her they were actually roses that had tulip heads so I just smiled at her and she threw her arms around me "Thank you."
She kissed me deeply and I put my arms around her and kissed her back. Every time she kisses me its like an electric current through my system.
A small growl emitted from my throat and my fangs came down as she traced her tongue over my lip. Man she is so beautiful and I want her to be mine forever.
A knock at the door made us both jump and I chuckled a little before going to open it. Aubrey stood at the door with two silver platers with covers.
"Have fun." She winked at me and I thanked her and shut the door. Turning back to Mia I held up the platers and put them on the table.
I held out my hand to her and bowed. "My lady dinner is served." She giggled as she sat down and just as she was going to lift the lid I took the ring from my pocket and got down on one knee.
"Mia I love you so much and after all we have been through and what you have done for me I would like nothing more than to make you happy for the rest of your life. Would you do the honours of becoming my wife?"
I watched her reaction as I opened the ring box and saw her gasp. Her lips moved slightly but no sound came out at first.
"Yes." I heard her whisper. "Yes. Yes. Yes." She said louder and I picked her up and spun her around in the air.
I put her back down again both of us dizzy and put the ring on her finger. "You are an amazing women and you'll be an amazing wife." I said and I picked up the glasses and passed one to her.
I popped the cork and poured some champagne. "Heres to us. Always and forever." I raised my glass to her and saw her do the same. We both took a sip and then she put her glass down and hugged me.
I put mine down too and held her close. She reached up and kissed me deeply and pushed me back against the bed. And just like that our meal was forgotten and all that was on my mind was how much I love Mia.
Our kiss deepened as well fell against the bed and for the first time since becoming a vampire I was happy.
I waited over 600 years for this and I will never let her go.
Mia West.
My love.
My fiancee.
My life.
Always and forever.
