goodbye old life
Michael's POV
I stood outside the Royal monument holding Sabrina's hand. Behind me stood almost 20 thousand people holding candles. Some were guards some were wedding guests that had decided to stay around a bit longer and the rest where the people from the kingdom.
The head of the council was standing in front of the door and was giving a speech from a book in front of him in the language of the Offtrenders, an ancient language that is only ever used for weddings.
And for funerals.
We tried everything that night to save her. My blood turned her but her body rejected it. Her heart stopped 3 times and in the end we couldn't do anything else but say our goodbyes. Sabrina said it was nicer to let her go than to keep her in pain.
Dalton was saved and was finally incarnated into his true form. Oddly enough that form has ginger hair and freckles. Right now though Dalton was on the roof. He didn't want to be here for the funeral and I couldn't blame him. I may have lost my partner but he has lost his twin sister and the only reason he exists was to protect Mia.
I don't pretend to know what Dalton is going through because I am going through it too. I should have been there earlier that day. I watched her walking in the garden and I should have gone down to see her rather than wait for her to run off.
If I had just gone down and hugged her I would have been able to have been there to help Dalton. I would have taken the stab instead but it wouldn't have mattered because I heal faster. It should have been me.
While I was thinking this a tear fell down my face and I felt Sabrina hug me as I cried silently. Everyone was crying and holding candles up to the monument. Sabrina felt it to only be right that we had her coffin held in the monument where her parents lived and where she was born.
We built a large marble tomb for her and placed her inside it along with a blanket that Sabrina had found inside the monument. Her mother had sewed it especially for Mia.
I looked up to see large clouds forming over the top of the palace and Dalton looking down on us. His bright hair lit up with energy and a large clap of thunder sounded from behind him. I knew it was his doing.
Mia was able to influence the weather when her feelings were strong enough and now that Dalton had all of the powers to himself and he was angry I could tell this was going to be one huge storm.
Derrick had been executed at my word the night Mia died. I made sure it was a painful death to make up for all the pain he has caused. But I know it won't bring her back.
"Michael." Sabrina said and I looked down at her. I hadn't noticed that everyone had left or that it had started to rain. "Come on let's go inside."
I let her take me back inside and I went straight to the west wing of the palace. I had moved into one of the guest rooms unable to stay in our room as it still held her scent. The only good to come out of this was that Sabrina had found a way to help my hunger for blood. I no longer need to drink it to survive but to gain energy.
I went to the balcony and watched as the rain flooded the garden and bounced off the floor. I jumped up using my strength and landed on the roof. I saw Dalton standing at the eye of the storm. His hair more a light than ever and I walked over to him.
I didn't say a word as I put my hand on his shoulder and we stood in the rain. He slumped against me and I felt the wind pick up. I fell to my knees with him and a loud crack sounded from the heavens as Dalton screamed out. His eyes turning white, his hair like a beacon and I felt his pain, his anger.
I screamed out as well and punched the floor of the roof. I heard the marble crack and shake beneath me but I didn't care.
The storm grew still. The rain stopped but the sky remained black as ever. Dalton put his arms round me and we hugged each other. He raised his hand in front of us and out of the dark rose a form.
Mia. She was smiling at us surrounded by a perfect white light. A ghost in the darkness. She waved at us and said 3 last words that struck my heart before she turned around and walked off into the storm clouds.
"Don't forget me."
I watched as she disappeared and I knew that Dalton had made the image. Sabrina had told me that the last part of Mia's soul lived inside of Dalton and he just let her go.
"We are going to be ok." I croaked out and looked to Dalton who nodded and turned his head to the sky.
The clouds parted but only enough to let a single ray of sun shine down on us both.
"Yes we are. We have each other and Mia lives on within us." He said.
"Always and forever." I said and I stood up turning my head to the light.
Dalton stood next to me and he waved his hand so the sunlight moved until it was above the monument. We stood on the roof and looked down on it. He took my hand in his own.
"Always and forever." He repeated.
I smiled as I looked down at where Mia lay in her tomb and I was happy. I may have lost my true love but I knew I would be ok and I knew that she was no longer a prisoner to the darkness but instead she was a warrior to the light.
Her story will live on within us all and even if I can't see her I know she will be with me to help me fight because until we do we are all trapped we are all...
Prisoners to the darkness.
