Chapter 9
Mia's POV
I was running. I knew that much but it was like I couldn't stop. I couldn't feel anything or even look around. In fact I was completely paralysed. Yet I was running through the woods, stones and sticks cut my bare legs and my feet. Low hanging branches swept across my face but I didn't feel a thing. I couldn't even feel the pain from where Master struck me.
"Don't call him that. He's not your Master". Those were Dalton's words but they came out of my mouth. How could they have come out of my mouth when I've always heard him in my head? "Because we swapped places Mia. Just like when we were shocked and I took over. I've taken over again and I'm getting us the hell away from that prick."
I mentally winced at that but I said nothing I just watched as Dalton took my body further and further into the woods. I was scared. Scared of the woods, of Dalton and of what could happen if we were caught. I heard Dalton grunt at that but I paid him no attention. I've never felt so helpless than right now, cowering in my own mind because something else has possessed my body.
"You want to be in control so much? Fine here." My voice spoke out and I didn't have time to even draw a breath before white hot pain spread through my body, my head felt like it was being ripped in 2 and there was a loud ringing sound in my ears and it didn't seem to go away.
After what felt like hours the pain eased up and I opened my eyes to find myself curled up on the forest floor. My face stung and throbbed, my feet felt sore and bruised and when I looked down at them I saw blood was trickling down my heels and stones were sticking out of my skin. I gritted my teeth and pulled the stones out of my feet feeling the pain shooting up my legs. I felt as if I'd been run over by a car my whole body hurt and was tired. My throat stung the most and when I tried to speak it came out raspy. I then realised that the ringing in my ears had stopped and that it had been me screaming.
*There happy now? You have full control, access to all the pains and aches from me trying to save you and no energy. That's why I took over. I can't feel pain, I dont get tired, I could keep us running until we were so far away from that vampire that no one would ever find us again.*
"Yeah you could but at the expense of my body. Just because you can't feel it doesn't mean it isn't there and if you burn out my body then you'll kill both of us. I need to be in control of my body so I know when we are at breaking point." I coughed and choked out through my sore throat. I ended up in a coughing fit and I could taste blood. I had never had a sore throat before but I had read a book in the library at Master's that said in the old days people with sore throats had something called flu and needed to rest and take medication.
I didn't know where to get medication from or what it looked like. I hoped it wasn't the big metal needles I used to have in my arms. The breeders said thar would protect me from sickness. I think they called it a vancalation.
*Vaccination* Dalton responded and I was sure if he had control over them my eyes would have rolled.
I ignored him and focused on trying to stand up. My legs felt heavy and wobbly. I had to lean against a tree to try and drag myself up and once I did my feet screamed in pain and I almost fell down again.
I could hear Dalton trying to say something but I shut him out as I continued to try and stand. I was so focused on it that I didn't realise someone else was in the area with me. I didn't see him move, didn't hear the branch breaking under his boots, didn't see his arrow leave his bow and head straight for me until it was too late.
The arrow peirced my leg and I screamed again though my throat was so badly damaged barely a sound came out. But the pain in my leg was far worse. Deep dark blood seeped from my leg where the arrow stuck out. Every small movement sent a jolt of pain over my body. Tears spilled down my face filling my mouth a d my nose making it almost impossible to breathe. Unable to hold myself up against the tree anymore I collapsed onto my side and just as I hit the floor a second arrow whizzed past and hit the tree where my head just was.
I lay trembling on the floor my vision fading in and out as heavy boots approached me. I couldn't see what what happening. The pain in my leg causing white hot spots to appear in front of my eyes. I barely heard the deep growl of a voice say "You aren't what I thought." Before I collapsed again. The last thought in my head was that I really need to stop ending every day like this.
