45. EZRA: UNNATURAL
“I don’t like this plan.”
“Too bad,” Obsidian muttered from his spot on the couch. “It’s the only one we have.”
I glared at him as I tugged on the hem of the jacket. “I’m sure—”
“Silence, Ezra,” he growled.
I hissed at him but obeyed his command for about two seconds.
“I don’t understand why you’re doing this. You’ve never gone to the gatherings before. Y—”
A vicious snarl cut off my words. “I’m doing this because you don’t have the skills needed to catch the bastard who’s threatening our—”
“Like you actually give a damn.”
“—mate and Devrim. He could. . .”
Obsidian’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped open. I turned, curious to find out what had gotten that reaction out of him.
I wasn’t expecting it to be Devrim.
Devrim took the last two steps and paused by the couch. He wasn’t paying any attention to us because he was busy fidgeting with his shirt.
“I never expected you to look so good in a tuxedo,” Obsidian rasped.
Disgust filled me. He was attracted to Devrim? What the hell was wrong with him?
Devrim raised his head and smiled at him. “Wish I could say the same about you, but you haven’t dressed yet.”
Obsidian smirked. “You could always help me.”
I pulled a face which unfortunately both men caught.
“You have a problem, Ezra?”
“Yes I do.” My eyes darted between them. “You’re both males. How could you be attracted to each other? It’s wrong and disgusting!”
Obsidian growled and Devrim flinched like I had stuck him. I tensed when Obsidian stood and took a step towards me.
“Not now,” Devrim muttered. “We need to go over the plans for tonight.”
Muttering under his breath, Obsidian took a seat again, but not before pulling one of his knives from its hiding place in his clothes. The look he was giving me made me move as far away from him as I could, which wasn’t that far.
“Orion will be close by encase we need him, along with a few other pride members,” Devrim said. “I’ve asked Dorian to keep a close eye on everybody leaving and entering.”
“Reeves agreed to have Dorian work s a guard?” I asked.
“He doesn’t know. He’s a suspect therefore I haven’t informed him of all our plans.” Devrim tugged on the collar of his jacket “We agreed that there would be only one entrance and exit.”
“Good.”
“We know that he will be there,” Devrim continued. “So we need to be extra careful.”
“I still don’t think that this is a good idea.”
“It’s still not up to you.” Obsidian glared at me. “Sometimes you’re just as pathetic as those damn humans.”
“Well, I’m sorry. Not everybody’s an emotionless, paranoid bastard like you.”
I gasped when he threw the knife. It skimmed my ear as it flew past my head and lodged itself into the wall. My eyes shot back to him, wide with shock.
He smirked. “Next time I won’t miss.”
My hands twitched at my sides. I fought the urge to tackle him. As if reading my mind, Devrim stepped in front of me.
“Not tonight,” he growled. “This ball is important. Let’s not fuck this up.”
“You’re like a ball of putty in her hands,” Obsidian said.
I frowned at him. “What does that mean?”
“Wow! A human saying Ezra hadn’t heard before.”
I took a step towards him, but Devrim pressed a hand against my chest. I instantly moved away, not wanting him to touch me. Hurt flashed through his eyes.
Clearing his throat, he walked over to the couch and picked up the tie Vanya said we needed to wear.
“I don’t know how to tie this thing,” Devrim sighed as he held it up in the air.
Obsidian’s eyes locked with mine as he spoke; “I know how. Let me do it.”
Devrim hesitated. Without looking at me, he walked over to him and handed him the tie.
“Kneel.”
My mouth dropped open when Devrim actually followed Obsidian’s order. He dropped to his knees between Obsidian’s spread legs without any hesitation. What the hell was wrong with him?
He was the Alpha—our leader—and he was above everybody in the pride. How could he kneel for someone else? A man nonetheless.
I looked away from them and towards the stairs. Shouldn’t Vanya have been dressed by now? Why was she taking so long?
Against my will, my eyes darted back to them. Obsidian was folding the tie around Devrim’s neck. When he was done, he fixed the collar of Devrim’s shirt and glanced over at me.
I knew he was doing it just out of spite.
Obsidian cupped Devrim’s face, tilted it backwards and kissed him all while keeping his eyes locked with mine.
I turned away, making a sound of disgust at the back of my throat.
“Obsidian!”
The last thing I expected was for him to tackle me. I gasped when I hit the ground and he came down on top of me. I struggled to get him off but fighting in human form has never been a strong point of mine.
He had me pinned to the ground within seconds, but before he could do anything a sound reached our ears. Our heads snapped in that direction. The air got locked in my throat when she stepped into view.
Vanya stood where Devrim had stood only moments before. The black dress she wore made her pale skin stand out more. It had thin straps and was long, but there was a slit on one side that ended mid-thigh and showed off a good expanse of her toned leg. She had a thin belt around her waist, right below her breasts. At least the dress wasn’t as tight as the clothes she usually wore, but the material of the dress was thin which made it clear that she wasn’t wearing a bra.
“Why aren’t you dressed yet, Obsidian?” she questioned. “The car’s already waiting for us.”
“You look—” Devrim started.
“Eatable—” Obsidian interrupted.
“Beautiful,” I finished.
Vanya’s face flooded with colour. She lowered her head and soothed shaky hands down her dress. “T-thank you.”
I pushed at Obsidian’s chest. He hissed at me but got up. Devrim stepped forward and held out his hand, which I ignored as I got to my feet.
“Obsidian was just going to go get dressed,” Devrim muttered. “Right?”
“Can’t believe I’m going to wear a fucking monkey suit.”
“It was your idea,” I told him with a bite of sarcasm. “Follow through with it.”
“Will the two of you just fucking knock it off!” Devrim snapped.
It looked like Obsidian wanted to say more, but with a glare in my direction, he headed to his basement.
“Don’t fuck this up, Ezra. We don’t need your childish behaviour tonight.”
“Childish?” I growled. “What about your pathetic behaviour?”
Vanya stepped between us with her brows dipped into a frown. “What’s the problem?”
“He—”
“Nothing,” Devrim interrupted, sending me a pointed look.
“Nothing? You—”
“Can we just get through this night without arguing or fighting, please?” Vanya asked softly.
“We will,” Devrim interrupted, glaring at me. “We’ll be on our best behaviour tonight, rosebud.”
