Chapter 13
“Heather! Heather! Where are you?”
She was again beckoned by the man's voice.
Heather and Alexander were forced to reposition themselves after being automatically moved back by the loud voice. Since their moment had been disrupted, neither wanted to be seen in an embarrassing circumstance in front of anyone, much less an unfamiliar person.
When Alexander looked at Heather, her cheeks were flushed with red, which only made him look at her with adoration.
Heather, on the other hand, gave him a sheepish glance from behind her eyelids. There was something about his stare, the way he looked at her, that made her heart beat faster. No one had ever gazed at her with such tenderness and affection.
But unlike the last time, their thoughts were interrupted by the appearance of a third party in her home.
“Heather, are you in the backyard?” The man called out her name again, confirming her whereabouts.
However, this time she managed to reply, deflecting her attention away from Alexander, with whom she was about to share her kiss with.
“Yes. I am in the rear. Out in the yard.” Heather replied in a loud voice.
Alexander was peering around, waiting for the man who had interrupted them. In a matter of seconds, he would have shared a magical kiss with her. He did not need to test it to know his future experience of the kiss with her. His heart knew it, and so did he.
But after a few seconds, a guy came, beaming kindly at Heather and then warily at Alexander.
"Good day, Heather." The man greeted Heather before turning to Alexander, staring at him with interest.
The unidentified man approached him and extended his arm for a handshake, saying, "And You must be Alexander Diadem. New guest of our town."
Alexander shook his hand and replied, "Yes.”
“Alexander, he is the youngest Oscar in our village. We all call him Junior.” Heather introduced Oscar Grandpa's youngest grandchild.
“Heir of Oscars. There's a lot Heather has told me about you. It is a pleasure to finally meet you.” Alexander greeted him with a polite smile on his face.
The Junior Oscar seemed like a decent bloke.
On the other hand, Junior Oscar was rather taken aback by the newbie in town. In just a short span of time, Alexander and Heather were on a first-name basis. It had not even been a month, but those two looked closer. They are not exactly a couple, but they are not far from being lovers. It was not in their culture to acquaint themselves by calling each other by their first name until they were of a close relation or had given permission to do so. However, Alexander and Heather appear to have crossed that bridge.
Not that he is surprised.
Heather is a diamond. A pure diamond who deserves to be treasured and protected with everything. Alexander appears to be the kind of person who understands the worth of his diamond and works hard to keep it protected from the evil eye.
He could sense that their feelings for each other were not just mere infatuation. It was powerful and inevitable. They belonged together, and he knew it would not be long until this Mystes had a new couple living with them.
Junior Oscar's neck for sense was not a fluke but rather an ability bestowed on him. He not only inherited his father's skills but also those of his mother, who is an empath. He is the finest synthesis of the two of them, making him one of the best character judges not only in his hamlet but in the entire world.
His powers enabled him to detect the sincerity of Alexander's character, his words, and his true feelings. Alexander Diadem was a powerful guy with clear beliefs and well-defined principles, and he did not need to know him personally to perceive that. Most crucially, he cared deeply for Heather, who is the jewel of their village, and he would keep her happy and safe.
And that is what really counts.
"I am pleased to have met you. I apologize if I interrupted the two of you.” Junior Oscar stated.
He could see the warmth on their cheeks and knew he had disturbed what could have been an intimate moment between them.
"No, you did not. Alexander was showing me the ropes." Heather remarked, shyly smiling, and Junior looked at the rifle that she was holding.
Alexander, in his mind, wished to explain that he had interrupted their first kiss, which may have been a monumental experience in and of itself, and was mildly offended by his unintended interruption, but he held his thoughts back. Furthermore, his mental displeasure was rapidly replaced by a wide smile at Heather's voice. Her words to his ears made him gaze at her, and his irritation dissolved in the air.
“Finally! I have been trying to persuade her to learn some form of defense, but she never did. I tried to compel her to learn to shoot the rifle, but she always had an excuse. Alexander Diadem, you have accomplished the impossible.” Oscar junior faux frowned at her, but it was all in good jest.
"I would want to take pride in it," Alexander grinned.
Heather, on the other hand, scowled at them, saying, "I do not need to learn to defend myself with this silly weapon, but Alexander has been far more adamant. He does not accept no for an answer."
“All for the right reason, Heather and I will continue to do so until I am satisfied that you can shoot without my assistance.”
She flushed when Alexander winked and grinned slightly at her.
“As you say.” Heather shrugged, trying to cover her emotions, and then redirected her attention to Junior Oscar. "What brought you here?"
"We need your assistance. Grandpa has requested you to come home soon. I am not sure why, but he told me to collect you in forty-five minutes, and twenty minutes have already passed." Junior entailed.
"Is it something serious?" She inquired, concerned.
"I honestly do not know, but with father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, you never know," Junior told her.
"What are your thoughts?" Heather enquired of her friend, who was well-versed in his abilities.
"I have a feeling there is someone who needs substantial aid, but I will not know for sure until I am near that person."
Alexander gave him a questioning glance. Junior never had any hesitation about exposing his ability. He felt Heather's confidence in Alexander, and he was convinced that the guy would not likely desert her anytime soon, if ever.
"In addition to the gift of knowledge we possess, my father and his ancestral folks work on a whim while I sense them."
"That is not at all complicated," Alexander stated while trying to comprehend his words.
"Well, Heather will explain once she is back. We really need to rush." Junior said.
Heather looked at Alexander, who nodded understandingly.
“I will come back shortly. But till then, please take a rest. It is almost midday, and you are still recuperating." Heather explained.
Alexander's health was still her first priority. He was getting better, but she wanted him back to his former health.
"Do not be concerned about me. I am going to be alright. You should go and heal the world."
Heather smiled at him appreciatively and followed Oscar to his medical emporium, but not before turning around and admonishing him to get some rest and sleep. "Do not forget to rest and sleep."
Alexander shook his head in jovial at her perseverance, feeling fortunate to come across someone like her in his life.
