Chapter 83

Even though it has been a couple of days since they revealed everything to Alexander that they all know of, it was still a lot to process. It was quite easy to notice that Alexander was still thinking about everything they had told him. However, even with his preoccupied mind, he had his gaze on Heather every single moment.
Since he found that he was going to be a father to her child, he left no stone unturned and stood beside her side every single moment. Even after having a separate quarter, he stubbornly refused to leave her alone.
If the case were otherwise, her folks would have protested, but now they do not think of any reason to do so.
Even now, while walking in the lane of Boonsdock, Alexander was walking beside her. He is still not used to Boonsdock, which is rather ridiculous as it is a lovely place, and most of the natives have begun to treat Alexander with respect. Every single day, he tries to convince her to take a walk near Mystes, but it is always a futile attempt, as she loves both Mystes and Boonsdock equally.
“You need to relax. They are good people.” Heather stated.
“I am not convinced,” Alexander said. “And you should slow down. I am not sure if it is good for you to walk so fast with…”
Heather, however, gruffed in annoyance, “I am having a baby. It is normal for a woman to have a baby. Do not treat me delicately."
More than her words, Heather's post-reaction annoyed him. To provoke him, she intentionally increased her speed. Alexander was about to yell at her for her careless attitude, but he chose to grab her hand and lock it in his arms. “Heather, I am worried about you. Just do not take that right away from him.”
As they walked in silence, Alexander looked around. Irrespective of his prejudiced opinion, he does need to agree that this place is peaceful. He was certain that he was walking unscathed because Heather was beside him, but with her standing next to him, it did feel blissful.
“I still cannot fathom how in the world you survived the poison. It could have been dangerous for the child.” Alexander remarked.
“Even I was surprised to find that I was pregnant, especially after how I was treated in dungeons. It would have been too easy for me to lose our child. Apparently, just like a mother protects her child the moment she is aware of its presence, our child did the same. It is truly a miracle that our baby not only protected me against the poison but also helped to reverse the amnesia spell.”
“I could have lost both of you in a single moment. All the steps I had taken were wrong, and they had only hurt you in return. I should have never asked you to accompany me to Warsavor.” Alexander stated.
“However much I want to agree with you, I cannot. If it were not for you, I would have never met my folks again. I would not have been able to recall anything from the past. I would not have our child in my womb.” Heather said it with a faint smile.
“It still does not change the injustice faced by you because of me,” Alexander pointed out.
“It does not, but we also cannot ignore the fact that whatever happened to me was because of the spell cast on everyone. There is a reason why your folks are against me. Almost everyone who is responsible for hurting me is under the influence of that spell.” Heather voiced out her thoughts.
“Is it? This does not change the way my folks treated you. They were vile.”
“Alexander, you only remember the memories that were cast upon you. But I do remember your parents. Yes, they were stern and rigid from the very beginning, but at the same time, they were also kind. We need to find a way to break everyone from the darkness surrounded by them.”
“We do,” Alexander was silent for a couple of minutes.
They reached her home, and Alexander accompanied her to the room.
“Are you alright?” She asked him.
“Were we happy before memory loss happened?” Alexander her.
Heather smiled, “We were. Infact, we were about to get married. The unfortunate event happened on the day of our marriage.”
Alexander's eyes widen at her response.
Heather gave him a sad smile, “Do not think too much about it.”
“Heather….”
“Alexander, we cannot change the past, but we can own our future.”
“But for that, we need to detangle the mess that has been created," Alexander said thoughtfully.
“Yes, we do need to do that. Whoever is behind this knows both our families well. There is a huge probability that they colluded against us.”
“Who could they be?” Alexander asked. “My bet is on Canute Gonzales. I only remember him meeting once, and he looked smug and arrogant. Gave me a ditzy vibe.”
“He is definitely involved, but there is also someone in your family who is against our alliance,” Heather remarked.
“My entire family is against us, Heather.”
“This is now. Before that, they were not. So there is someone who is against us from the very beginning and has disguised themselves well.”
“We need to find a way to figure it out.”
“Do not worry, that person will walk to us.”
“What do you mean?”
“Alexander, you were supposed to marry Diona, but you did not, as I stopped the marriage. You, Juan, and Diona are missing. None of the people know about the whereabouts of you three. It is a matter of time before we all will be revealed and face the person behind the attack.” Heather explained.
“It is a dangerous game. This is not the way to catch the culprit.” Alexander stated. He was not comfortable with Heather’s idea.
“This is the only way, Alexander. It has become nearly impossible to figure out who is behind this.”
“No, Heather. I will not allow you to put your life in danger once again.” With that, Alexander stormed out of the room.
It had almost been a couple of hours since last Heather saw Alexander, and she grew worried for him. Unlike all other times, this was the first for him to leave her alone in her bed chambers. She expected him to show his presence and dragged her to bed by embracing her in his arms for a sound slumber, but he did not.
Heather took a deep breath and went to the actual chambers allocation to Alexander, which was just next to her. She knocked on the door, but there was no response, so she quietly went inside, only to find Alexander looking out of the window in silence.
“Alexander,” She called out his name, but she was only greeted with silence.
She closed the door and walked towards him. She kept her hand on his shoulder, which made him turn around. His eyes looked lost, as if he was searching for answers.
“Heather, what are you doing here?” He asked her in a confused state.
“You look exhausted,” She responded instead.
Alexander’s silence was enough response for her.
“Do not burden yourself. When the time is right, the truth will come to light.” Heather tried to comfort him.
“Will it ever? I am still unable to fathom that the memories I have engraved in my mind are nothing but an illusion. How could I forget everything?”
“We all did, Alexander.”
“I…I just…” Alexander was not comfortable. He felt anxious and was having trouble breathing. He tried to move away by passing her and walking towards the bed, but Heather could sense his discomfort.
“Are you alright?” She immediately followed him.
“I do not feel good,” He said as he closed his eyes and sat on the corner of the bed.
“Alexander, breathe.” She tried to help him, but she could see that with each passing second, he was panting harder. Sweats forming on his forehead. She instinctively placed her hand on it and sighed in relief that his temperature seemed normal.
She touched his cheeks, and as she was about to get up, he held her hand, “Do not go. Please.”
“I am not going anywhere.” She stated as she sat beside him.
“I am sorry, Heather. I have put you through a lot, but I promise you no more. I will do everything in my power to protect you and our kid.”
Heather nodded and said, “You need to lie down.”
She helped him on the bed, and within a few seconds, she was securely in his arms, tightly embraced. Alexander's body shook hard against her, and she knew that it was from the despair he failed as a failed lover.
With the passing of time, his breathing became normal, and he was in peaceful slumber. As she was about to sleep herself, she heard a loud scream from Diona, making the entire castle wake up.
