Chapter 51

Hearing his mother's remarks should not have surprised him, yet it did. It was not in a good way, either. He never had in his life imagined his mother speaking such foul remarks to anyone. Let alone about his lady love. She should have, at the very least, held respect for that. He could still come to terms with his marriage announcement by his parents with Diona Gonzales, but he had no idea they would accuse Heather of such a heinous crime.
For this particular moment, he felt relieved that he did not disclose everything about Heather's capabilities to his folks. If they even got the slightest hint that the red flashes which they experienced a few minutes earlier were similar to one which Heather had the ability to create, they would have not only given their judgment but would have executed her without any evidence.
He didn't think Heather would do something like this because he knew her well. He knew that if she didn't have control over her emotions, she might inadvertently cause an accident, but over time, she had learned to control it. She had learned to not let her emotions overwhelm the power she possessed.
Regardless of everything, he continued to worry about her. No one could prevent him from seeing Heather. Not even his family or their ridiculous yet terrifying warning.
He always had a strained relationship with his parents, and the words “I despise you, mother” came straight from his heart.
He did not even regret for once what he said to his mother and straightaway left to check on Heather.
He had to explain everything to her. About Diona, their prior arrangement, and his plan for the future, which had no one but Heather. His mother's warning would cause a hindrance, and he had no doubt about it. He was also aware that if cards were played wrong, he would not only lose Heather from his life but would also be guilty of her ultimate demise.
Alexander knew his mother well. She is capable of staying true to her warning, and he would not put Heather’s life in jeopardy. Further, he also needs to find the person behind this attack. He had to track down the perpetrator of this attack and put them behind bars.
This is the only way he could think which would clear Heather’s name.
As he hurried towards her cabin, he was shocked to find Malka sitting on the stairs of the entrance with a blank expression on her face.
“Is everything alright?” Alexander asked anxiously.
“Heather is gone. She left.” Standing up in front of her older brother, Malka said. She was anxious about his reaction and was sure that his response to this was not going to be good.
“No. She would not leave me. She won't leave me,” Alexander whispered. He knew his Heather. She could never abandon him.
“I am sorry, Alexander. I tried to stop her, but she was adamant. She refused to think on my words despite my attempts to do so." Malka remarked, a little concerned at Alexander's response.
Often his reaction toward the situation changes drastically. She was aware of his fierce devotion to Heather, and hell would break loose if anything happened to her.
“You should have tried harder, Malka. You ought to have bloody called for me. Anything to make her not leave. I would not have allowed her to leave under the present circumstances.” He shouted, making her flinch a little.
“Don’t you think I tried? You did not see the look on her face, Alexander. You have no idea what went through her. What she had experienced. The news of your engagement with Diona broke her. Her heart was shattered into pieces. Could you blame her for feeling upset and angry about it? You cannot begrudge her for feeling betrayed and disappointed.” Malka made an effort to explain to his brother.
“You should have still tried to stall her. I refuse to believe that either of you expected me to stand still or go along with my folk's decision.”
“What about being accused of the attack?” Malka retaliated.
“What do you mean?” Alexander prayed to god that Heather did not hear his mother's accusation. That would surely break her into pieces.
“She overheard the conversation you and Aunt Contessa had. The entire ordeal did not help the situation." At Alexander's absence of words, Malka continued, "Alexander, I swear. I tried to stop her, but Heather was too emotional to think clearly or pay attention to any of us.” Malka said dejectedly.
“She cannot leave me, Malka.” He whispered. “I know it in my heart that she did not do any wrong. She is innocent. She should not have left. At least not without having a word with me.”
“Emotions can sometimes get the better of us. When the heart is broken, trust follows suit, and the mind overpowers the heart.”
Alexander looked at his sister straight in her eyes. “Our love is not frail enough to for trust to be betrayed. Heather ought to have put all her trust in me. She should trust that I will make everything right. Even if it looked like it, I refused to believe that Heather had lost her belief in me. The present circumstance may have led her to become weak and compelled her to flee from Warsavor, leaving me behind. But I know her very well.”
“Maybe, it is time to let go of everything. At least for the moment. It is significant to settle everyone and everything down before deciding on the next course of action. We need to think logically and make a rational decisions. Haste must not be made.” Malka said, trying for Alexander to look at things objectively. It is of utmost importance to play rules by the brain and not by heart.
“No. I have had enough. I am no longer going to be a bystander.” Alexander declared firmly. He is no longer desires to play by his folk's rule. It is about time he creates one of his own.
“What are you going to do?” Malka worriedly questioned his brother.
"I am going to track Heather down and bring her home."
