Chapter 44

“What in heavens are you doing, Heather?” Alexander spoke as he came outside the room.
Alexander turned in his sleep reasonably early to see Heather gone from her arms. He flapped his hand on her side of the bed while his eyes were still closed, but the lack of her contact just served to accentuate his frown.
When he opened his eyes, all he could see was an empty space, and when he looked all over the room, he could find no sign of her. He immediately stood up, feeling concerned, and went in search of his lady. As he exited their bedroom, he found her sitting Indian-style on the floor. He walked towards her to have a better look. She was sitting up straight with both hands on each side of her lap, three of her fingers were open, and her index finger was touching below the tip of her thumb. Her beautiful eyes were closed as she was taking deep, steady breaths.
She had a contented expression. It had been a really long since Alexander had seen her so peaceful and calm.
“Heather?” He spoke again. Even though she was in a state of serenity, he could not help but wonder what was going on with her.
She reacted by saying, "Hmmm," while paying close attention to her breathing. She was focused on only having to attract positive energy around her.
“What are you doing?” He asked her again.
“Meditation. Mabel suggested for me to try this form everything morning.” Heather's eyes were still shut as she replied to his question.
“But why? I am aware that it is a beneficial technique to unwind, but why sudden interest in Meditation? Is everything alright with you?” Alexander was concerned with the lack of response from her. He waited for nearly a full minute when Heather finally opened her eyes and stood up on her feet with a peaceful smile on her face.
“Everything is fine. However, I have to admit that things have been a bit stressful lately, which is why I decided to try this technique. Further, meditation is a great way to connect with my soul. While having our daily tea, Mabel suggested I start practising meditation while we were enjoying our daily cup of tea since it would help me discover my skills and assist everyone who needed it. This is a powerful method to explore.”
“That is indeed an excellent idea. But you have more abilities than that of a healer?" Alexander's interest was piqued.
"Mabel believes so. She mentioned that our Mystical ability is not that different from one another. There are few things which are yet to be discovered, and meditation could actually help me with that."
Alexander was surprised by her words. He could not help but point it out.
"That is incredible, Heather. You could really reinvent yourself."
"Yes. Mabel is helping me with that. She is an extraordinary woman."
"You and Mabel have grown very close in such a short time,” Alexander stated.
At first, he had his own reservations about Mabel, who had unexpectedly and eerily appeared in their community. Though no one knew who she was or where she had come from, over time, some of the locals grew to trust her.
Some people still had their suspicions about her. He was one of those who still harbored suspicions, but after meeting during his gloomy days, he had a change of heart, especially after she guided him in the right and assisted him in searching for his true pearl.
Mabel was different. Unlike anyone, he had ever met, and she somewhat reminded him of Heather. Although the woman's style of giving directions to the populace is distinctive, she also has a unique way of assisting her fellow citizens when they approach or come across her. She had helped people so much that most of them did not even realize it. She is truly a gem, and he trusts her with Heather.
“Yes, we have. Initially, I had my reservations about her, but with time I have come to trust her. There is something about her that makes you trust her. She is a wise woman. You cannot help but wonder seriously about the significance of her wisdom.”
“On that point, I can't disagree with you. She has always given me something to ponder whenever we have spoken, and her words have genuinely meant a lot to me. She is compassionate.”
“She is,” Heather nodded. “Mabel truly understood me, more so than I have understood myself or anyone else for that matter. She provided me with the feeling of clarity I had been looking for a long time.”
Alexander nodded in agreement with her.
He was not intelligent enough to recognize that Heather frequently felt lost and he was somewhere to be blamed. Even though she had made an effort to conceal it from him, he had picked up on it, as there was only so much one could pretend. Heather was struggling, and his folks only added to their troubles.
Their brunch was as exciting as it possibly could have been, particularly his conversation after eating. When he met Heather that day in the night, she subtly asked him about his parent’s reaction to her truth, and he managed to share their response as subtly as possible without hurting her feelings.
He felt guilty as he somehow managed to hide the truth from him, and somewhere he knew that Heather had already figured out that he was hiding something. Although he wasn't pleased with himself, he didn't want to make her feel worse than she already did. He didn't want to unduly burden her with his parents' limited perceptions of her. He believed that withholding information was the best way to protect her.
He knew he had to deal with it as soon as possible, but this was not the right time.
Although he had made his message and intentions evident to his parents, he was aware that they would resist being forced to stand down. However, he felt confident that he had bought time for them, which would help them understand and like Heather immensely.
“Heather, I know that everything is not working out as it should have. I feel terrible about it, but I guarantee that things will turn around for the best. No matter what, I will stand by you till the end and beyond. Sooner or later, my mother and father will come to accept you.” Alexander stated with determination. He won’t be giving them any chance to say or declare otherwise.
“You really think so?” Heather looked at him.
“Yes. Although it may not seem like it right now, they will accept us.”
“I pray so, Alexander.” She said with a sad smile.
