Chapter 39

After Heather’s encounter with Mabel, she was initially hesitant to accept Mathilda's invitation to have tea with her and her friend. Even though she had faith in Alexander and Juan’s words with respect to Mabel’s intent, yet she was reluctant to meet her.
She had a strong feeling that Mabel had the ability to unleash all her hidden secrets and display her lost past in front of her.
While it was a scary idea, she wished to explore it more.
She was once more embraced by Mabel's warmth as soon as she entered her house for the second time.
“I am so glad that you came back. I was slightly concerned that you wouldn't want to see me again. I am content that I did not frighten you.”
“To be quite honest, I was nervous about visiting you again, but I was powerless to stop myself,” Heather spoke honestly.
“That is understandable. Mable has that knack of surprising people off for the first moment.” Mathilda said as they all sat on the stool in Mabel’s cottage.
“Alexander and Juan said the same thing,” Heather stated.
“Diadem’s brother. Sweet yet brave young fellows. Both of them have golden hearts, but my guess is Alexander’s heart belongs to you and yours to him.” Mabel said with a soft smile.
Her words made Heather color pink, making her blush at her statement. She did not know how to respond to that. Further, she doubted anyone had any hint about her, and Alexander’s relationship apart from people is Mystes and his family. She was pretty sure that no one would have disclosed this information to the residents of Warsavor.
Firstly, his folks are not big fans of her, so she was confident they would have shared it with anyone. Secondly, Juan doesn’t seem like a man to spread their relationship to people as he values their privacy. So, it was somewhat surprising that Mable knew about it but that she was also a psychic.
“I…How did you know about it? Is it because of your…” Heather asked hesitantly. However, before she could mention the word psychic powers, Mabel began to speak.
“No. It is not due to my skill. It's not always necessary to utilize your abilities to learn specifics about someone. Your expression tells it all, and I'm convinced that of the two brothers, Alexander is well suited for you. You both are made for one another.” Mabel said.
“Alexander mentioned that you led him to me,” Heather stated.
She was unsure if she should have mentioned this, but she could not hold herself.
“That’s correct, my dear. The poor child was lost, searching for something he didn't even know existed. He was shredded into pieces. Regrettably, no one could piece it together, and neither could they see what was causing him to be vulnerable. It was a heartbreaking sight.”
It was Mathilda who added, “I remember my encounter with Alexander quite well. The spark in his eyes was gone for a good amount of time. There was nothing that excited him. He did grin as he passed by or when we ran into each other, but it wasn't the same. He was not the same Alexander I knew.”
‘Oh lord,’ Heather thought. Her heart went out to him.
“He was Alexander Diadem, a future king who wasn't the same vivacious person we were all used to. But then, one day, he stumbled upon me in the market, and I led him here. He remained mostly silent the entire time as he focused intently on something that not even he was aware of. And then suddenly, he muttered,”
“What did he say,” Heather asked her with curiosity.
“I remember it like yesterday. He said, ‘I have lost something precious to me, and the ridiculous thing is I do not know what it is.’ He then turned to me in desperation, pleading to me through his eyes for what he was seeking. And I had only one thing to say, ‘Go and find it,’” Mabel recalled the encounter she had with Alexander when he was at his most vulnerable, speaking with a faraway grin on her face.
Heather was intrigued. Alexander had mentioned to her before how he had felt weak until she had aided him. He had also described to her how he felt his strength and powers were ebbing away constantly, but now he felt like his former strength had returned.
Confirming Heather’s silence as her queue, Mabel continued, “That was the last day I met him. Then when he stepped into Warsavor after such a long time, he sent me a note the very first day. He scribbled the two words "Thank You," and I immediately knew he had found what he was searching for.”
“Just from the note?” Heather enquired.
“Yes, Heather. Just from the note. It is incredible what one can feel from a simple note. Through one note, I was able to sense his power, contentment, and tranquillity. I was assured that Alexander did not come back empty-handed. He got what he deserved, what was his from the very beginning.” Mabel stated.
Heather wasn't sure how to tell Mabel that Alexander had always referred to her as the pearl he was looking for. But she concluded that it was not required. Mabel already knew what she was thinking. Maybe she knew it from the beginning what Alexander had been searching for.
“Heather, my dear, it was you. It has always been you, but my guess is Alexander already told you that, didn’t he?”
Heather was only able to nod.
“Alexander is a good man. A great man.”
“He is,” Heather whispered. “Did you always know what he was looking for? What he felt he lost?” Heather asked her.
“Deep inside, Alexander always knew whom he lost. It was a matter of time for him to discover it.”
Heather was confused at Mabels’ choice of words.
Mabel continued, “Life works in a miraculous way, and there is a force beyond each of us that none of us can ever control. Believe in that magic, Heather, and you, alongside Alexander, will conquer what is truly yours. Heather, put your complete confidence in him and let him do the same for you. There will be obstacles along the way, and there will be a bit of suffering but believe in your heart and allow it to lead it to your destiny.”
Heather nodded with a tearful smile.
When she arrived at her cabin, Alexander was already by the living room, getting ready to grab a book.
Alexander replied, "You are back," as Heather approached and entered her cabin.
She embraced him tightly in her arms before he had a chance to speak.
“Everything alright?” Alexander asked in concern.
“Yes. I missed you.” Heather said, looking at him. To prove her point, she kissed him.
Without needing further confirmation, Alexander returned her affection while holding her close.
