Chapter 14

It was late in the evening, but Heather was not in sight. Alexander was getting more and more anxious as the minutes went by.
When she followed Junior Oscar to his emporium, he abode by her concern and took a long nap. He was half expecting her to be there present with him when he woke up, but unfortunately, she was still out with Junior.
He did not want to think much about it as Heather Crown was her own woman who was more than capable of taking care of herself. Moreover, she is not answerable to anyone, especially not to him, especially when he is nothing more than a patient of hers.
Nevertheless, it still did not help him to keep his worries aside while the sun was setting down and darkness was about to swallow the sky.
To divert his attention and make better utilization of his time, he decided to prepare a supper for them. This was the least he could do for her, and he did not want to bother her when he knew she would be exhausted when she returned home. He did not make anything elaborate, just a simple meal that he had learned during his survival period. He even managed to clean the kitchen and tidy up a bit of her place. It was no brainer that he is an active man and cannot keep still for an extended period of time.
Even in everyday situations, Alexander Diadem prefers to keep himself busy. Furthermore, prepping meals for themselves and cleaning the mess he created was the only way he could keep himself from not leaving Heather's residence in search of her.
Aside from his concerns, Junior Oscar appeared to be a nice guy. Heather has spoken about how kind and knowledgeable the Oscars family is. They possess a knack for understanding plants and an innate sense of other people's needs. They have often helped Heather on various occasions, and they were also one of the reasons why at present, she is in good spirits. In addition to everything, they were also the ones who assisted her in getting acquainted with her skills of healing people.
The Oscars are a legacy in themselves.
Although he has not yet had the chance to meet them in person, he is positive that they are good people. His meeting and a brief conversation with Junior Oscar have proved that.
Despite the fact that he knows nothing about the inhabitants of Mystes, he has a strong feeling that he is presently residing in a good place. He is yet to be certain of the character of the people in this village, but if Heather Crown trust them, then so does he, to an extent. He is not willing to give his hundred faith, but he is also not hesitant to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Regardless of anything or everything, he intends to explore his town on his own with Heather by his side, but he is aware that it would have to wait. Just like he cannot rush into his feelings for Heather, he also cannot exert himself to cause any permanent damage to his body.
Heather had frequently reminded him when he intuitively prompted to make use of himself. But it was challenging, if not impossible. Nonetheless, he was aware that he needed to be patient and slow himself down. Though he was feeling noticeably better and had regained his energy, he was still not totally recovered. There were times when he felt abruptly exhausted, but those times were brought on by the side effects of stopping Heather's medication. If not take a step back, then he definitely needs to halt his steps for his own betterment.
But for the time being, Alexander wanted to march through every path in the village in the hunt for Heather. He had not anticipated her to take this long, and each passing second increased his anxiety. The ticking of the clock was also not helpful. Instead, it was making him apprehensive.
He tried to sit down on the couch, but within a few minutes, he was up and pacing around. He tried to utilize his time after cooking to read a book that was prominently displayed on her bookcase, but he could not get past the first few words.
His thoughts kept returning to Heather and revisiting the near kiss they could have shared. He envisioned numerous scenarios for that kiss, and in each of them, she was with him in the end. He could foresee himself with her.
Aside from the kiss, passing the formality line was the highlight of his day with her. Only if he got the opportunity to kiss her than it would have been a perfect day.
Even after repeated replays of the enjoyable morning he had shared with her, his mind kept worrying about her trying to invent a worst-case scenario. Even after trying to fool his brain with the pleasant memories of her, he could not help but feel something was wrong, and she needed his help.
His support.
Simply put, the draw was too strong.
Never before had Alexander experienced such feelings. He felt as if she was trying to pull him towards her, but at present, his instincts were clouded with fear of making the wrong decision.
He was in a dilemma.
On one side, he was half ready to go in search of her, but on the other side, he wanted to stay put in case she returned and required his help. He didn't want her to come back and find him gone.
Although he was aware that Junior Oscar and their family were with her to ensure her safety, but his heart was not ready to listen. It was as if his heart had a consciousness of its own and was trying to tell him something.
Just when he believed he could not bear it any longer and decided to go to Hortus to inquire about the location of the medical emporium, the door opened.
A wave of relief washed over him as he hoped to see Heather back home.
However, instead of seeing a healthy-looking Heather with the finest glow in the universe, he saw a vulnerable woman who was about to fall on the ground at any moment.
