Chapter 85
Juan instantly felt the increase in weight of Diona in his ask, along with the drop in her body temperature. He also witnessed a subtle rise in her seizures.
On the other side, Heather cried out loud because of the excruciating pain.
Both brothers instinctively moved away from Malka to try and shield their women. Arkin and Mabel had similar thoughts in their minds, but they were more composed than anyone.
Anyone in the vicinity could feel the abrupt shift in the air, which now reeked of negativity and was spreading quickly.
“Malka, what are you doing?” Juan asked. He was growing more and more enraged by the moment. The possibility of his sister being involved shook him to the core, and he prayed that his assumptions were wrong.
"Why are the two of you giving me that stare? I do not understand. I am worried for Diona. What is happening to her, Juan?"
Malka feigned the look of being oblivious really well, and the brothers would have been almost convinced if it were not for the response of Heather and Diona in their arms. As soon as they took another step back, the trembling of Diona's body and the pain of Heather subsided.
The family as a whole did not overlook this observation. They would be foolish to ignore the facts that were clearly in front of them.
“Malka, what did you do?” Alexander gritted his teeth. He no longer had the patience left in him to deal with his family. Even though Malka is his little sister, he cannot let her go without any explanation.
“Alexander.” Malka had tears in her eyes. She could not believe that Alexander was doubting. After all this time, both the brothers suspected her.
“It was you from the beginning,” Alexander stated, realization dawn dawned on him. However, by that time, a good number of Boonsdock and Mystes residents had gathered around them.
They might have felt the shift in energy. Further, Junior Oscar would have intimated everyone about the upcoming disaster, and with the mystical abilities the towns of Mystes and Boonsdock possess, he should not be surprised.
“I do not know what you are talking about,” Malka stated.
“Malka, why?” Juan said it in an authoritative tone. He refused to give in to her act. He should have known better. The signs were present the entire time, yet they paid no heed to her. Alexander's attack during her engagement was a major red flag because nobody else had the ability to terrorize the populace and wreak havoc as she could.
“You surrendered your power to him,” Malka said instead, giving an accusatory stare at Alexander. She could not believe that Alexander would go to such a length.
Contessa and Heinrich were astonished at her words. “Alexander would never take such a drastic step.”
"Alexander, why did you surrender your powers to Juan? You are supposed to be the king. Not him.” Malka demanded answers. She did not care if her true intentions were revealed, especially when everything she worked for could go in vain.
“How does it matter to you, Malka? How the hell did you even figure out that I had abdicated my power for Juan to take over? I am yet to make an official announcement, and here you are already aware without a single clue from my end.” Alexander demanded.
“It does not matter how I found out. You cannot simply escape from your fate, Alexander. You cannot give your title to Juan.” Malka's tone rose with each word she spoke.
It was Juan who intervened. Now that his assumptions were confirmed, he needed answers. “How does it matter to you, Malka? We do not owe you an explanation; however, the same is not the case with you. Tell us what you did to Diona right this instant."
Malka's anger escalated, though. She did not care for the brothers' words unless they were of any use to her, particularly when she could see that her entire plan was on the verge of getting sabotaged because of the Gonzales sisters.
Instead of replying to Juan's questions, Malka diverted her anger towards her elder brother and yelled at him, “Alexander, you ruined my entire plan."
She did not care if she drew any attention. Now that she was exposed, she did not give a dime if the brothers were against her.
Diona abruptly whispered, "Juan," drawing not only his but everyone’s attention to her. She was uncertain what was going on around her, but she felt strong emotions of tension around her, making her stiff. Further, she could feel a state of weakness inside her and aches all through her body.
“Diona,” he cried in relief. He gave thanks to the Lord for bringing her back to awareness. Once he was certain that she was alright, he assisted her in standing on her foot. “Diona, how are you fairing now?” Holding her still, he asked.
“I feel exhausted. What is happening, though?” Glancing around, she asked him.
They were all standing outside Gonzales's house. Even Diadem’s family was present. Malka, however, looked furious. But the presence of other people from Mystes and Boonsdock put her in a dilemma.
Before Juan could reply, Malka angrily spoke, “You and Diona Gonzales. She is supposed to be with Alexander. How could you ruin my entire plan?”
