Chapter 41

Even though Heather was anxious about the entire ordeal of having a meal with Alexander’s parents, she was positive about it.
At least, she wanted to be.
She desperately wanted to be in their good books as she did not want to lose him.
Alexander bought light inside her and helped her to connect with her inner self, which not only brought serenity but also helped her think that she would be well even if she lost her memory of her past.
At present, Heather was sitting with the entire Diadem family at the dining table, having a meal with them.
To everyone’s surprise and relief, Alexander folks welcomed her with a smile. While Heather had a positive perspective about it, Alexander, on the other hand, had reservations about his parents' intentions. However, Heather's optimism had rubbed off him, and he decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.
When Heather gave his mother the chocolate pie which she had made, Contessa and Heinrich even acknowledged it with grateful smiles. It all seemed like it was too good to be true.
“I hope I am not late,” Everyone at the table turned to look at the feminine voice that had just greeted them.
“Malka,” Alexander was the first one to greet. He immediately stood up as the woman dashed towards him to hug him tightly. She then greeted Juan the same way, followed by his parents. With the new addition, Heather felt out of place but, at the same time, was quite curious about her.
She was undoubtedly beautiful, just like all the other women she had seen in this town. However, she did not feel envious of her beauty but rather of her close proximity to Alexander.
“Heather, I want you to meet one of the most significant person in my life.” Alexander dragged the lady to introduce. “This is my cousin, Malka Diadem.”
The word cousin immediately bought relief through her. She never realized the fear of losing Alexander to another woman until now. She had always been confident about it and always considered the emotions of envy petty.
“And Malka, this is Heather Crown. My….” Alexander's mother, Contessa, finished his sentence before he could complete it.
“His dear friend and new healer of Warsavor.”
“She has a touch of magic. So I have heard.” Juan added enthusiastically.
“Magical touch, huh?” Malka raised her brows, a smile not leaving her face. “Heather Crown, it is a pleasure to meet you.”
As they all took a seat, Malka sat next to Contessa across from Heather, Alexander, and Juan.
Heather stated. “Likewise.”
“So, Heather tell me a little bit about yourself? My brother failed to mention about you in his last letter.” Malka said, sending a playful glare at Alexander.
“I did not fail. I knew that you would be coming back soon, so I wished to introduce you to her personally and not through a letter.” Alexander said as a matter of face.
Juan wanted to add, ‘He is so smitten by her, you must see.’
But he decided against it.
He could not yet take the risk of telling his parents what was really going through his head because doing so might raise their suspicions about his desire to support his brother's relationship with Heather.
He would stand up when the need arose, but not right now. Today won't be the day for that. However, with Malka in their life, he was sure that she would support Heather and Alexander as well.
She was their baby sister.
Nonetheless, cousin but the closest to the real sister they could ask for.
"What is it that you want to know?" Heather quietly asked.
“Anything and everything. Where are you from? How did you meet Alexander? How are you adjusting to Warsavor, given that you are new?” Malka eagerly enquired.
She was really interested in hearing Heather Crown's story straight from the source.
“Well, I am from Mystes. A small town nearby. It is a beautiful place. You should visit someday. As for meeting Alexander, I stumble upon him on my way home.” Heather stated.
“As a matter of fact, if it were not for her, then I would not be sitting with you all. I would have long left the world. She saved me.” Alexander boldly took her hand and squeezed it with a thankful smile on his face.
"In that case, Heather, we owe you a debt that will last forever. My elder brother means the world to me. He is the best.” Malka said proudly.
Without giving Heather an opportunity to respond to Malka Diadem's gratitude, Contessa spoke, furthering Malka's conversation with Heather, “Do you have brothers, Heather? Perhaps a sister?"
Contrary to before, Contessa's voice was normal rather than stern. Heather, on the other hand, went blank for a second. She was at a loss for words when faced with that question, yet she had no other intention but to speak the truth.
“I sincerely have no idea.”
Malka's brows furrowed in perplexity, but Contessa and Heinrich had intent looks in their eyes.
“Care to explain?” Contessa asked.
Juan and Alexander both sensed that his mother's old personality was resurfacing, which only increased their concern about the consequence.
“I do not have any memories of them. In all honesty, I don't remember anything other than my previous two and a half years of life."
“Oh my!” Malka exhaled sympathetically.
"Therefore, you are unaware of your ancestry," Heinrich remarked.
“I am afraid so. I tried to find out about my roots, but till date, I am unable to do so.” Heather said uncomfortably.
She was not liking how the ambiance was changing around her. She felt like bait in a trap.
"Since you have lived in Mystes for a considerable amount of time, it is unlikely that the locals are unaware of you." The Contessa indicated it.
Alexander had enough of their parents' inquiries. He did agree that while they had a right to know about Heather's life, they were not required to scrutinize her in this manner. He understood what they were playing at.
“Like me, even Heather somehow got herself in Mystes.” Alexander taking the place of Heather, narrated the entire story, with her being a listener and adding a few details wherever necessary.
She was a little taken aback by how attentive Alexander had been and how well he remembered every last piece of the tale.
“The Mystes residents were quite kind to welcome Heather and adopt her as one of their own. She is a remarkable woman and the soul of that community. Even though these are not my words, I wholeheartedly concur with them.” Alexander concluded.
“It's interesting,” Contessa murmured while casting a critical glance Heather's way, causing her to squint nervously.
