Chapter 65

**James POV**

"What if I don't want to?" James challenged it

"This is a legal test, sir. We have to submit this to the court", the lawyer specified the importance.

"What if it gets negative? What will it mean to our case?" James asked, calming his composure.

"Sir...then your stepmom may have the right to contest for your company name. However, as you suggested, if we prove that the Will is fake, then the case can be dismissed", the lawyer said hurriedly.

"Then be on it. I want it to be done by today. I will handle this DNA test", James said as he snatched the papers that ordered the test.

"By today?" the lawyer gulped at the nearly impossible task.

"Do you have any problem with that?" James asked with a clenched jaw

"No...no problem at all sir", the lawyer visibly gulped as he said that.

James stormed out of the lawyers' office fuming at Eleanor and her petty games. No, not Eleanor. Jacqueline. Another of her antics.

James’s thought about what the lawyer implied. There is a high chance that that man may not be his father. What with the way Perla gallivanting the neighborhood?
But he presumed she turned to others after he was born. Not before. How silly of him to assume that.

He should feel something. Out there he might have a father who wouldn't have starved him. Who might have loved him?

James curbed his thoughts at the bud. No good will come out of this hope. Whoever he has had the chance to know him when he was a kid.

What if Perla never told that guy? He wouldn't put it past her. Whatever it was, it's in the past.

James at least felt relieved that he wouldn't be like his father when he got old.

If what the lawyer suggested is true, and he bet his money that it is, then Jacqueline must have known it for a while. 12 years to be exact.

He lost interest in thinking about what her end game will be! He doesn't give a shit about her anymore. A handful of days. That's all. After that, he doesn't have to amuse her. How much worse can she do at that time?

James fumed for falling for yet another of her cunningness. No more. He is done catering to her needs. He will wrap this shit up by today and will return to his Bella.
But before that, he needs to tie some loose ends. Though he can dismiss the case without taking this step, he needs to destroy the evidence that can be used by his stepmother or Jacqueline in the future. He called the butler of his parent's home.

"Mr. McKenzie?" The butler answered the call, his voice in a monotone not showing any of the surprises he must be feeling.

"Is Eleanor there?" James asked straight to the point

"No sir. Madam has gone for her parlor appointment", Jeeves replied

"Of course. I forgot. Tell me Jeeves, has madam behaved oddly in these two days?"

"Umm..." Jeeves hesitated unsure on how much to divulge.

"Remember that who owns the building Jeeves", James warned him subtly.

"Yes, yes of course Mr. McKenzie. Madam was in a hurry yesterday. She disoriented your late father's room in search of his hairbrush", Jeeves said hurriedly.

"Ah... a hairbrush. Is it still at the house Jeeves?" James asked his tone normal again as if they were discussing the weather.

"It is...it is in the locker sir"

"And I presume you have the keys to it"

"But sir, what will I tell her?" Jeeves asked, horrified. He felt like he was stuck in the middle.

"That she has to leave the house within a week or else I will take legal action on her", James said, done with playing games and complying with their needs.

"What about me sir?" Jeeves asked worriedly

"Why, you will continue your work there with a better bonus Jeeves"

"Thank you, Mr. McKenzie. I will look for this hairbrush. She won't find it sir", Jeeves replied as he thanked him profusely.

James then called his lawyer and sorted out the case.

"Have the copies reached you?" James said as he started packing his stuff.

"Yes sir. I have talked to the judge right now. He too ruled out that the testament was a fake one. You are free to leave the country. The case has been dismissed and you can press charges on your stepmom if you want", the lawyer suggested, proud of himself that he was able to close the case so soon. Of course, bribing also helped.

"I want this shit to wrap up", James snarked as he closed the bag.

"Very well sir. It's nice working with you", the lawyer said, used to the language the rich people use.

Once James cleared the mess, he shouted, "Tank!" As per habit only to realize a second later that Tank is in hospital.

David came into the room, understanding the slip-up of his boss.

"Prepare the jet", James said offhandedly.

On the other hand, Jacqueline fumed as she listened to the cries of Eleanor.

"You threatened me. Now, look what James has done. I lost my house because of you! If only I had asked James nicely, he would have let me live there. But no! You have to destroy everything", Eleanor cried her eyes out.

"Eleanor...shit happens. That is life", Jacqueline responded unaffected by the tears.

What else can she expect from this stone! Fuming at her gullibility, Eleanor composed herself.

"Well Jacqueline, when your life turns to worse, I will be ready with the same words of wisdom", Eleanor snapped as she cut the call.

Though the case was closed sooner than Jacqueline predicted, it has done the thing that she aimed to do. It has lit the fire under James. Jacqueline smirked evilly as she saw her husband's progress towards the airport from a side counter.

She then called Perla and said, "Your turn, Perla. Don't disappoint me"

"Do you know what time it is!", Perla said grumpily.

"I don't give a fuck. James is at the airport. He will be reaching the city soon. I want your man to follow him. He shouldn't be left alone for not even a second", Jacqueline gave the instructions.

"Sure...why not? It's so easy to do that", Perla said, sarcasm dripping with each word.

"Giving me tongue will not do you any favors Perla", Jacqueline said irritated, not ready to tackle another of these pests.

"Giving impossible tasks also won't do", Perla countered, not backing down. This bitch may have cornered her but she is not the one to follow orders compliantly.
"Fine! Follow him when he is outside of his house. You can ask your man to do at least that?" Jacqueline suggested, fed up with her antics.

"Yes. But don't hold your breath. If he is caught, he will vanish in seconds. Then I'm out as well", Perla warned, as she knew the type of person, she is assigning this job to.

"Then make sure he isn't caught. Remember what's at stake Perla", Jacqueline jogged her memory.

"You don't have to remind me you-", Perla glowered with frustration

"Tsk...tsk....tsk... What did I say about giving tongue? Remember that you don't want to anger me Perla", Jacqueline said in a low voice.

"As if you will let me forget. Get to the point Jacqueline "

"I want your man to take photos of whoever James meets. And if it's a girl, much better. Tell him to make sure they are very cozy...I don't have to tell you what that means", Jacqueline made a jab at her.

Perla gritted her teeth at the disrespect this bitch is giving her. Instead, she concentrated on what Jacqueline informed.

"A girl! So, this is what lights a fire under you. Otherwise, you wouldn't have bothered with him. You are no better than me Jacqueline. You are guarding your golden goose unlike me", Perla completed bitterly. If only she has more sense, then, she wouldn't have to beg for a pittance now.

"What I do or don't shouldn't matter to you. Your job is to bring those photos to me"

"What will you do with those photos?", Perla asked curiously. If her man can really get those photos then it will be like putting a weapon in Jacqueline's hands. If not for Jacqueline's learnings of her past, she herself would have used those photos for notorious things.

"That's for me to know and you to find out", Jacqueline cut the call on that mysterious note.

'Run husband, run. Run into the arms of your lover. Show me who she is' Jacqueline thought to herself.

"Well dear husband, it is time your wife arrives home", Jacqueline laughed evilly as she followed the line of the check-in counter.
