Chapter 16
Will walked up to them and shoved Matt off of Emma. Matt eyes were full of shock. A boyfriend? Emma sure had moved on quickly. It was clear that Will was an upgrade, and he hated that. Emma shouldn’t have been able to get someone better than him.
“Let’s go, Viv,” he seethed, looking at Emma and her new boyfriend with disgust. But Vivian was not interested in leaving.
“Emma, aren’t you going to introduce me to your new friend?” Vivian rushed up and offered her hand to Will. “I’m Vivian, Emma’s roommate. I’m sure she’s told you all about me.” Vivian tossed her long hair back, and batted her eyes.
“No,” Will said, taking Vivian’s hand and placing a light kiss on it. “She hasn’t mentioned you at all.” Emma’s face grew red with anger.
“Oh, how mean of her!” Vivian said with mock hurt.
“I’m meeting you now, aren’t I?” Will teased and smirked at Vivian.
“Yes,” Vivian purred. She walked closer to Will and placed a hand on his chest. “Yes, you are. What’s your name?”
“I’m Will,” he smiled at her.
Vivian shamelessly flirted with Will. That wasn’t the problem. That behavior was to be expected of her. The problem was that Will seemed to be flirting back, and Emma was fuming. She knew Will wasn’t really her boyfriend, but she could not bite back the jealousy that rose in her. She saw Matt out of the corner of her eye, and he seemed angry as well. *Good,* she thought. *Now you know how it feels.*
“You’re so handsome, Will,” she giggled. Emma gagged at Vivian’s desperation. “How did someone plain like Emma hook up with someone as hot as you?”
“Well, that’s not very nice,” Will smiled, not sounding offended by Vivian at all.
“I’m not nice. But I’m sure you and me could have a very nice time together.”
“Vivian!” Matt called to her. “Let’s go!”
“Can’t you see I’m talking to my new friend?” she whined.
“Oh, I’m not your friend,” Will said with that dangerous glint in his eyes. *No!* Emma screamed internally. *I know that glint! That’s my glint!* She immediately balked at her line of thinking. Will and her were in a business arrangement. There was no place for jealousy here.
“Mmm,” Vivian hummed. “I sure hope not.” She leaned against him and rubbed her hands down his arms.
Emma felt the sudden urge to shove Vivian off and drag Will away. She looked over to Matt and saw he was very agitated.
“Vivian!” Matt yelled. When Vivian didn’t respond, he turned on Emma. “Emma! Get some control of your boyfriend! Get him off of Vivian! Aren’t you upset? Look at how he’s all over her!” Matt fumed.
“Really? Did you forget about how you cheated on me with that woman? How you slept with her, and then tried to make me feel like it was my fault?” Emma said with her arms crossed.
“At least we did it in private! They’re acting like we aren’t even here!” Matt shouted. “Does that bother you?”
*Yes,* Emma thought. *It does.*
“Nothing about what you and Vivian did is okay. You betrayed me.”
“Well, if you had dressed up for me like you are today, things may have been different,” Matt said coming closer to Emma.
“Get away from me!” Emma walked away from Matt.
“I’m better than that guy!” Matt yelled and grabbed Emma’s arm again.
“Do not touch her!” Will locked eyes with Matt. Vivian was still pressing herself all over him, but right now Will’s eyes were on fire with wrath. “Get your hands off of her.”
“Hey,” Vivian cooed, pulling Will’s attention back. “Forget about them. Talk to me some more.”
“That’s enough!” Matt called, and pulled Vivian away. “You are done talking to him!”
“Bye Will,” Vivian winked as Matt dragged her away. Will turned to Emma and smirked at the incensed look on her face.
“Let’s go,” he said as he climbed into the car.
They rode in silence for a few minutes. Emma bristled thinking about Will and Vivian’s interaction. His blatant flirtation with her was irritating. She could tell something was bothering him as well. His hands gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles were white with strain. Though she couldn’t fathom from what. He seemed to be having a great time getting to know Vivian.
“I—” they both spoke at the same time. Emma stopped and gestured for him to continue.
“I don’t want you that close to another man again,” Will said.
“What?” Emma was confused.
“That guy. He had his hands all over you.”
“He grabbed me! I tried to get away. I didn’t want to be touched by him. And what about you? The contract says that we’re not supposed to be involved with other people. So, no one else can touch me, but you can shamelessly flirt with some loose bitch to your heart’s content?”
Will scoffed at her.
“That’s not the same thing.”
“Her hands were all over you. She pressed herself up on you, and would have done more if she had the chance. Why is that okay?”
“Don’t get that close to another man again,” he repeated, not answering her. His eyes were dark. Something uncontrolled swirled in them. She had to admit, that part of her was turned on by his dangerous side. But right now, she was more annoyed than anything else.
“Why are you so possessive of me?”
“It’s not about you,” he barked. “I don’t just don’t like people touching my things. You are mine. And my things will stay clean and touched only by me.”
Emma’s mouth fell open. She most certainly was not a “thing” he owned. She wasn’t a possession, or a trophy for him to admire. She was a person with feelings, and hers were hurt. No one could look at her, or touch her, but he was free to touch and be touched by anyone he wanted? How was that fair?
“Vivian had her hands all over you,” Emma countered. “What if I don’t want other people touching you?”
“This arrangement isn’t about what you want,” Will answered. “You need me. I don’t need you.”
Emma narrowed her eyes at him in anger. God, how she hated him. Sometimes it was so easy to forget how much an asshole he was. How could this man be the same man that made love to her for the first time? Or the man that hired a private nursing agency to care for her father? She didn’t respond to his comment. There would be no winning with him. They just had to get through the next six months without killing each other.
