Chapter 48

Emma and Sabrina flew out of the chairs, squealing and jumping for joy.

“Oh. My. GOD!” Sabrina screamed. “You got it! I knew you would get it! You're the best, girl!” Sabrina looked excited and proud. Emma felt so touched. She was so happy to have Sabrina by her side to share the great news with her. They hugged and screamed and Emma cried tears of joy.

“I can’t believe it,” Emma cried and laughed at the same time. She never thought she could get accpeted into the final. She thought she would just give it a try and she'd be prepared to be rejected. But that's just... too good for her.

“Believe it, boo!” Sabrina embraced her. The people at the bar were looking at them, and wondered what the commotion was about.

“Drinks on me, everyone! Let’s celebrate my best friend tonight!” The patrons cheered and clapped for Emma. She’d never been this happy in her life. Sabrina was true to her word and bought drinks for everyone in the VIP. People came by them and congratulated Emma. She blushed due to the extra attention, and the alcohol taking effect. They drank and laughed and had a blast. Emma had never been celebrated like that before. And she loved every second of it.

Someone invited Sabrina to dance. Emma opted out as she was a terrible dancer. She sat back in the booth, content to watch her friend dance. Emma sipped on her drink, basking in her victory when she overheard two women in booth next to hers talking.

“You can’t be serious. Don’t crush my dreams like that.”

“I thought the same thing. But it’s being reported everywhere, girl. Everyone’s fantasy husband is off the market. William Stewart is getting married. For real.”

Emma almost spit out her drink. What? Who did they say? Had she heard them correctly? Or did she just mistake the name? She moved closer to them to hear them better.

“I didn’t know he was even he was seeing anyone. How did he go from single to getting married? I don’t believe it.”

“Well, believe it. It was in all of the magazines. Even on some covers. It said that the Stewart family has booked the entire hotel downtown, The Primrose Castle, for the wedding. But no one knows who the bride is.”

“Women everywhere will be heartbroken. Not only is William Stewart one of the richest men in the city, but he’s also the hottest man in the city. Who wouldn’t want him? I would hide myself if I were her too.”

Emma’s high was doused with ice. Will had been away for a while. She couldn’t account for where he’d been, but had he really gotten engaged? Why couldn’t she just have her joy? Of course, William Stewart somehow managed to ruin her night.

She should be happy that Will was getting married, right? That would mean their contract would come to an end. Wouldn’t it? This should be another reason to celebrate for her. But something in her broke. How could he do this to her? He should have had the decency to let her know. How could he keep her like that when he had a real relationship? And how was that far to his future wife?

The truth was as much as she dreamed about being free of the contract, she never really understood that would mean being free of Will. Somehow the idea that the contract ending meant they could begin a relationship. It was stupid, and she knew it. Her and Will would never ever work, and it was time she accepted that. She would not let Will ruin her night. Not again. This was her time to be happy and celebrate her accomplishment. To hell with William Stewart. He would not run her night.
But the thought of whom Will would be married with just kept lingering in her head. She tried to keep him out of her mind. She tried to drink, laugh and enjoy the night. But he still took all her feelings. She thought she might should go back and question Will what the hell did he do? Why the hell not telling her the truth? But she found herself no stance questioning him. She was his pet. He could dump her any time just as he wanted. Oh fuck it!

Emma poured herself into Will’s apartment at around 10am the next morning. She and Sabrina had left the bar at almost four in the morning. It was too late to head home, and Emma didn’t want to go to the dorms. She opened the door to her room and was shocked find Will waiting for her.

He stared at her with ice in his gaze. There were dark circles under his eyes, as though he hadn’t slept. Maybe he waited for her all night. The thought made her heart tremble with anticipation. He’d been up all night worried for her.

She shook the thought from her head as soon as it came. *Don’t be stupid, Emma. He does not care about you.*

“What are you doing here, Mr. Stewart.” Her tone was more bitter than she wanted it to be. “Should you be preparing for your wedding? You shouldn’t be here with your contracted sex toy.”

Will frowned, but the expression didn’t have the signature anger that she was used to seeing. He looked her up and down. The movement was slow, as though he was appraising a product to purchase.

“What?” she challenged him. “You’re not going to say anything? You’re not going to ask where I’ve been? Or say that as your pet you need to know all of my movements? Say something!”

Will took a deep breath and stared at her for another few seconds. There's no emotions under his eyes. Emma thought she would get used to his attitude. But she never did. She never understood him.

"Are you going to say something? If not, I'm—" Emma found herself became impatient. She didn't care about what he's going to say because she assumed it would no other than arguing or humilations.

“You’re going to marry me. Next month.” Will finally spoke.
Emma froze at the moment he finished his sentence, her eyes widened and her mind shut down. She couldn't think straight. She didn't know how to process the information she just got.
What. The. Hell.
