Chapter 25

Emma was under his spell again. The familiar scent of his cologne enveloped her. It was dark, musky sort of floral scent. Like a meadow under a full moon. The hard lines of his body were pressed against hers and she could feel every inch of him. No one else existed around them. He could have made love her to right there in the club if he wanted. She wouldn’t have stopped him. She hated him, and the effect he had on her. But there was denying the way her body responded to his.

“Just admit how much you want me,” Will whispered to her so that no one else could hear. The moment probably lasted no more than a minute, but it felt like an eternity. “It’ll make all of this so much easier.”

Sabrina yanked Emma away from Will, and stepped between them.

“I don’t know how you two know each other, and frankly I do not care. You will not bully my best friend in this manner. Keep it up, and you’ll have to answer to me,” Sabrina seethed.

“She’s got a good right hook,” Alex commented.

Will stared at her blankly for a moment and laughed. He sank back into the booth slowly, his eyes never leaving Emma’s. Vivian wrapped herself around him again.

“Sabrina, it seems like you’ve snagged yourself a rich and handsome boyfriend. You should help Emma do the same. She needs one. Especially since she’s apparently trying to steal mine.”

Will made a face and being called hers, but otherwise didn’t react. The server returned with their drinks, giving Emma a few moments to collect herself. When the server departed, Emma looked straight at Vivian.

“What I want or need is none of your damn business. And don’t try and act like you’re not the one who steals boyfriends. Everyone knows your reputation.”

“Well, I never,” Vivian feigned innocence.

“Seeing as you’ve slept around with half the men on campus, and Will has bedded more women than I can count, you two mesh together quite nicely.” The irony of her statement wasn’t lost on her. She had been one of the countless women Will had slept with. The most recent one to her knowledge. And all she could think about was doing it again.

Will had said she was bad at it, but seemed to enjoy himself whenever they were together. Then he said how Vivian was tastier than her. Had he really slept with Vivian? The thought of Vivian knowing Will the way she had revolted her. Emma looked at her glass, filled it with some amber liquid and tossed it back.

“Whoa there, Emma,” Alex said in concern. “That’s some strong stuff, you should slow down.”

Vivian decided this would be a great time to kick Emma when she was down, her favorite thing to do. She leaned into Will.

“Oh, don’t worry. Emma can handle it. She’s got a high tolerance. Probably learned it from her alcoholic father.”

Sabrina gasped, and Emma bristled. She was stunned at the audacity it took to make such a cruel statement.

“That was uncalled for,” Alex said. Will had had many women in his company in the past. None were as unsavory as this one. Will wouldn’t usually bother with someone as classless as the woman he was with now. What was he doing with someone like that?

“No, it’s fine,” Emma said, thankful for Alex. Vivian’s comment had thrown her off. She couldn’t even argue. Vivian stared at her with a pleased smile on her face, probably waiting for Emma to start crying. She refused to give her the satisfaction. She poured herself another glass, and tossed it back like the first one. *I am the daughter of an alcoholic.*

“Oh, poor Emma. Dealing with your emotions the way you were taught to. Taught how to drink the pain away by your good-for-nothing alcoholic—”

Sabrina slapped Vivian with all her force. She would not sit there and like this piece of shit whore demean her friend like this.

“You fucking bitch!” Vivian screamed. She jumped up and lunged at Sabrina. Sabrina was ready to fight her, but Alex jumped in between them.

“You will not touch her,” Alex warned. “Sit the fuck down.”

Vivian pretended to be hurt, and pouted to Will.

“Why are they all ganging up on me? I haven’t done anything!”

“Oh, shut up, Vivian,” Emma said, feeling brave from her buzz. “Maybe you need a glass of ‘mind your damn business’. Stop worrying about me. Or at least stop pretending to. That one right there,” she pointed at Will. “You think he’ll be good to you? He’s only looking out for himself. When he’s tired of you, he’ll just move on to the next worst thing.”

She stared right at him, and downed another glass. Vivian faked fragility, and put her hand on Will’s chest.

“I feel horrible for her,” she said to him. “I really do. She’s so hurt. And looks just awful.”

“Just drop the damn act already! God, you make me sick. Everyone knows what you are. Stop pretending to be a good girl,” Sabrina yelled. She poured Vivian a glass of the drink, and shoved at it her. “Take a drink. Reveal who are you really are.”

“Please don’t insult me!” Vivian said dramatically. “You know that I don’t drink. It’s horrible for you.”

“You are a delusional, pathological liar,” Sabrina sneered. “You ordered the drinks! And I have personally seen you drunk of your ass, prowling on some poor unsuspecting sap at least 20 times. And everyone knows your favorite thing to do is get drunk, and go find someone else’s boyfriend to go and fuck.”

People around the club had been listening to the exchange for some time, and laughed at Sabrina’s comment. Vivian had the decency to be embarrassed, and looked to Will to defend her.

“Alex, you need to keep your girl on a leash,” Will said. There was no emotion in his voice, but Emma recognized the flash of danger in his eyes. He was truly defending her, coming to her rescue like a prince in a fairy tale. Did he actually care about Vivian? Emma was shocked and hurt more than she wanted to admit to herself. At first seeing them together boiled her blood. But now she was just sad. *It is my fault,* she thought. *I broke up with him, and then gave Vivian the green light to go and chase him. I have no one to blame but myself for this. But why does this hurt so much?*

Will hadn’t been tender and caring with her. So why did she care about him at all? He could have that “tasty” bitch if he wanted her. Then maybe they could both stay out of her life.

 Sabrina glared at Alex.

“Stop me, and you’ll have more to worry about than a black eye,” she hissed. Alex smiled, put his hands up and stepped back. He loved how feisty she was.

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he said.

Will stared at the scene before him. He seemed almost bored, as though he was watching a mildly entertaining show. He leaned across the table and snatched the drink that Sabrina had forced at Vivian.

“Getting drunk and fucking? Sounds like a good night to me,” he said staring directly at Emma, who so far had been the only one in the group to drink. “I’ll drink this for her. I would want to make her do something didn’t want to do.”
