Chapter 55
**Nerissa POV**
Slowly, the darkness that consumed me vanished as the heaviness that was pressing down on my body lifted up, making it easier to breathe.
Slowly I opened my eyes, blinking a couple of times, noticing I was in my room and in my bed.
A fast movement coming from one side of my room caught my attention as a moment later there was right next to me, standing; more like looming over me, a familiar face.
“How are you feeling?” Kiara asked me as she placed her palm over my forehead, checking my pulse on my wrist while I looked at her in confusion.
I was feeling confused as to how I ended up here when I was sure I was outside, trying to get fast to Allister and Alexander.
Noticing my confusion, Kiara added, “Allister brought you here.”
My eyebrows raised up hearing her answer while she ignored my look and continued to do a checkup.
Her eyes finally looked up at mine as she asked, “Now tell me, how you are feeling?”
Looking straight at her, I said, “I feel fine. What happened?”
Small wrinkles appeared on her forehead as she seemed focused on how to answer.
“I’m not quite sure, but my suspicion is…” she slowly spoke as she stopped at the end, looking at me just to avert her eyes, feeling ashamed.
“You can tell me, please, I want to hear what you think.” I reached out my hand and placed it onto hers, making her look at me as I spoke.
Kiara slowly nodded her head and I could see in her eyes a mixture of excitement and worry while she asked me, “Did you experience any pain before you fainted?”
I thought back and nodded my head, answering, “Yes, I did.”
“What kind of pain? Did it hurt you everywhere or a certain part and if the second then where exactly?” She grabbed her notebook and wrote in it as I remembered that excruciating pain in my chest and said, “It is hard to explain, but it was unbearable and was making me hard to take a breath in.”
She nodded her head and continued to write as she asked, “Was it in any specific area?”
“My chest was like burning from the inside, well more actually my heart was,” I said the words, feeling awkward, not wanting to sound crazy.
Her eyes snapped at me as she asked, “You were feeling like your heart was slowly about to be ripped out from your chest?”
Slowly, I nodded my head and said, “Yes, all I know I couldn’t bear the pain it was like none I have ever experienced before.”
“Do you feel it was connected to your Phoenix?” her next question came and my eyes grew wide as I remembered.
Panic slowly crept inside of me as I looked at her, afraid to ask but I had to know, “I-I am not sure, but I tried to shift and I couldn’t at one point.”
“Hmm…” was all she said, making me sit up fast not liking the answer.
Kiara’s hand steadied me as she took a pillow and placed it behind my back so I could half sit in bed.
“Bellania is still there, I can feel her, and talk with her, but neither one of us knows for sure why we felt the burning inside my heart or why I couldn’t shift,” I spoke fast, trying to think of the reasons why all of those things happened now.
Kiara placed her notebook down and looked at me, “Ok, I can tell you my thoughts but again I am not sure if I am right not unless I do some more tests.”
Nodding my head I kept my eyes fixated on her as she continued to speak, “The reason why you weren’t able to shift could be because of the trauma that you went through when you were held against your will in the Dark Fae World, or if you haven’t shifted in a long time so that could also be the cause or something else I yet don’t know but we can do some tests as I said and try to find out.”
“About the pain and fainting part, I need to ask you a question and I need your honest answer as it might clear out for me any confusion and I can hopefully help you out with that, ok?” Kiara asked, looking at me with an intense stare.
Feeling as if what she was about to ask was serious, I slowly answered, “Ok.”
She smiled at me warmly before she asked the question, “I know Alexander is your mate, but having the ability to observe from the side, one other, I have a question in mind and here it goes. Do you have two mates, or to be clearer, are Alexander and Allister both your mates?”
My eyes grew wide as my mouth became dry and at the same moment as I was trying to find my voice to answer her question as I was in shock, the door of my room opened making us both look that way.
Seeing Alex and Allister entering my room, making the air in the room feel as it’s sucked out while both of their huge frames took so much space in a simple room as mine was, I saw their eyes look at me, making my cheeks flare red, hoping they didn’t hear my conversation with Kiara.
Alex was the one that spoke first, clearing his throat as he asked me, looking at me without blinking, “Is it true?”
Feeling as the air left my lungs, I had my eyes dance from him towards Allister who was silently watching our exchange with his arms crossed over his chest.
My heart fluttered as I saw them both, well and standing there in front of me, side by side as the last images of them almost ripping out their throats lingered inside my mind, making my heart feel a slight pain pierce it as a gasp left my lips.
Kiara held my hand, saying, “You need some rest. We can continue this tomorrow.”
I could see Alex struggling as he was having an inner battle while Allister never once removed his eyes off of me.
Taking in a deep breath, knowing it is better to come out in the open now than later and be done with it, I took a deep breath, looking at them both as I forced my voice to come out strong.
I said, “Yes, it is true. Allister is my mate, same as you are.”
