Chapter 60
**Alexander POV**
I stood near the window in my office, watching Nerissa talking with Emily and Rhea.
I couldn’t help but wonder what they might be talking about, but if I had to guess then my guess would be it had to do something with both Allister and myself.
Noticing a movement when a tall figure walked outside the house, I didn’t need to look to know who it was. It was Allister, and by the looks of it, he was heading straight towards Nerissa.
The knock on the door sounded followed shortly by a question coming from Ryder, “Are you ok?”
I kept my eyes on Nerissa, noticing her blush as she saw Allister standing there with his hand outstretched.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I answered, forcing myself to move away from the window, picking up the files from the desk, and taking a double check if I prepared everything I would need.
“Alex?” Ryder called my name, standing near the door with his arms crossed over his chest, looking at me with that annoying look that says, ‘You can’t fool me.’
Rolling my eyes, I said, “Yes?”
“What’s up with you?” He asked me.
Taking in a deep breath, I said, “Nothing… is everything ready?”
He arched his eyebrow up, looking at me for a second before he answered, “Yes, everything is ready and set for your departure.”
Nodding my head, I took my phone, placing it in my pocket, letting myself turn around one last time.
I saw Nerissa walk slowly hand in hand with Allister, as they walked back towards the packhouse.
Walking towards the door of my office, Ryder stopped me, asking me, “I thought that you are ok with this trip?”
Looking at him, I said, “I am… it’s just… I’m still getting used to this situation and you know I wouldn’t go now and just leave Nerissa here unprotected.”
“So then why such a sour face?” Ryder asked me.
“I don’t want to leave her and before you think or say anything, no it is not because of Allister, it is because I know I will miss her like crazy as I am feeling that way already now,” I told him honestly.
He looked at me and I could see he understood my feelings as he nodded his head, saying, “I get it. I know how that is. Hell, my mate is here and yet so far away, and it is driving me crazy.”
I placed my hand on his shoulder, feeling sorry for his rough situation, wishing it changes for the better for him. I said, “If you really want her and love her, then don’t stop fighting for her.”
“I won’t!” He looked at me with determination in his eyes.
I smiled at him, squeezing his shoulder about to make a step towards the door when he asked me, “So you are ok with leaving her here with Allister?”
I thought about his question before I answered, saying, “I am. I know it’s hard to understand and hell even I don’t fully get it how, but I trust him. I know he will keep her safe and protect her if it’s needed and just that thought is good enough for me to trust him, plus I had a chat with him before you came.”
He looked at me surprised, asking, “What? Don’t tell me you threatened him?”
Laughing, I said, “No, of course not. I just informed him that I have to go to meet with a few of our Allies’ packs and I told him that if anything happens to call me and I will come back.”
His eyes glanced down at my phone that was now in my pocket, smiling, he said, “If I may say so myself, but your a great Alpha and I know this must be hard for you with this hmmm… trio mate thing going on, but seeing how you’re trying hard for her to make her happy, I can see how much she changed you for the better and how much she means to you it’s obvious even to the blind.”
“Thank you, Ryder. I hope so. I will do anything for her and to make her happy.” I said with honesty showing in my words.
“You should go. Cole is already waiting outside.” Ryder said, and we walked out of my office, going downstairs where Cole was waiting with a few of my warriors.
When we got where Cole and the warriors were, I looked at the men and asked, “Are you all ready?”
“Yes, Alpha!” The warriors, together with Cole, answered in unity.
Nodding my head, I looked to Ryder and said, “If anything happens, you know where I am and how to reach me. Take care of the pack.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Ryder answered with a slight bow of his head.
“Let’s go!” I said to Cole and the warriors and we turned towards the front door that at the same time opened.
Stopping in my tracks when I noticed Nerissa enter the packhouse together with Allister, I saw her eyes stopping on me as she looked at me and Cole and the warriors in confusion.
“What’s going on? Are you going somewhere?” She looked at me and asked, having her eyes glancing from me to other men.
Walking closer to her, I looked above her head at Allister who silently nodded his head and took a step back, giving me and Nerissa a little privacy as I took her hand in mine, making her look up at me, I said, “I have some important pack matter to deal with that I was avoiding for some time but don’t worry, you are safe here and Allister is here to and I will return soon as I can.”
Her eyes were silently looking deep into mine as she asked, “You promise?”
Giving her a sincere smile, I answered, “I promise.”
Leaning down, I pressed my lips over hers, wishing I could just wrap my arms around her and take her with me, but I knew better.
Pulling away from our kiss, I could hear her sweet whimper sound that escaped her lips the moment I moved away.
Placing my hand on her cheek, noticing how she leaned into my touch, I said, “I will be back soon.”
Walking away with a heavy heart, I saw two black cars parked in front of the packhouse.
Making my way to the first car, I looked back to the front entrance, seeing Nerissa watching me with teary eyes as Allister walked next to her, taking her hand into his as I turned around and entered the vehicle.
The car started, and in the next moment, we were driving away from the packhouse.
I saw Nerissa stepping out and waving at me, so I smiled at her and waved her back as she mouthed ‘I love you.’
Before I could say it back to her, the car took a turn and I couldn’t see her anymore.
Falling into my seat, I exhaled deeply, trying not to doubt myself and my decisions, but I knew I had to do this trip and Nerissa was safe here.
Cole moved fast, turning in his seat, looking through the window at something.
His abrupt movement cut my train of thoughts, making me look at him, asking, “What’s wrong?”
I tried to see what he was looking at, but I couldn’t find anything strange or out of ordinary.
There were some pack members and children in the distance playing and no trace of anyone that was not a member of my pack or someone who I didn’t know and allowed for him or her to stay on my land.
“I’m not sure…” Cole said, and I could sense confusion in his voice when he turned around towards me, scratching his forehead like he was trying to find an answer to some hard math equation.
“What do you mean you’re not sure? Did you see something?” Looking at him, I asked.
The car passed the border, driving fast to our destination.
I wanted to get there fast so I can finish this damn meeting sooner and return home to my mate.
Cole looked at me and said, “You know how you feel Nerissa is close since she is your mate?”
Nodding my head, understanding what he is saying, I said, “Yes, why?”
He said, “I know the stories about how mate pull works and makes you feel and all, but I never meet my mate. For a while, I thought that I didn't even have one…”
Looking at him, I asked, “Why did you think you might not have a mate?”
His eyes looked into mine for a second, looking sad as he said, “Because I am a Wayern.”
Raising my eyebrow, I asked, “And?”
Taking in a deep breath and blowing it out slowly, he answered, “My belief was always that I don’t deserve one, because I am Wayern and everyone believes I am what the stories say… a monster.”
I couldn’t help but to feel sad for hearing how he saw himself, so I said, “Cole, you are a Wayern but not by your own choice and you are nothing like that damn Mikah! Why do you think if I believed you're bad I would let you come with me and be a part of my pack and even be my Gamma?”
His eyes silently looked at me, taking in my words while I continued to speak, “I trust you, Wayern or not, I trust you enough to let you be a part of my family and I trust you as I saw how you helped and saved my mate when Mikah and his buddies came and attacked Nerissa and me. You're not bad and you deserve good so yes I believe there is the one made for you out there and when the time is right you will meet her, just have hope.”
He looked at me, smiled as he said, “Thank you Alpha…” I stopped him before he continued, saying, “Alex…” he looked at me in confusion, so I added, “To my friends I’m Alex, so call me Alex.”
Smiling some more, he nodded his head and said, “Thank you, Alex, I really appreciate it.”
I smiled at him giving him a nod of my head when he said, “The reason why I reacted that way earlier and for my words now is that I am not sure but I had a feeling like my mate was close somewhere out there.”
A wide smile appeared on my face. Placing my hand on his shoulder, I said, “When we come back, I’ll help you find her.”
