Chapter 62

**Nerissa POV**


Moving away, still feeling the sparks that consumed my body the moment my lips pressed on his, I looked at Allister who’s eyes grew darker making a shiver run through my body.
“You're playing here with fire, little one,” Allister said with a growl, making me feel breathless.
Feeling my heart beating faster, wetting my lips, I looked him in the eyes and said, “I’m not afraid of a fire.”
A smirk appeared on his face while his eyes blazed with fire inside of them. He leaned forward, making me feel his breath tickling my skin as his face was an inch away from mine. He said, “Is that a challenge, little one?”
Keeping my chin high, I looked him right in his eyes, feeling the fire burning inside of me. I said, “Take it as you wish.”
We stared into each other, feeling the pull so strong, making my breathing faster.
I saw his eyes look down on my lips, making the desire in me grow, hearing his low growl the moment my tongue wetted my lips.
His sharp inhale made me feel confused as I looked at him, wondering what was wrong when he closed his eyes and I could feel and see his struggle to make me wish to extend my arm and touch him, to bring him comfort.
Abruptly, he pulled away and said in a husky voice, “We should better go back… it’s getting… late.”
He took the oars in his hands; I watched his muscles bulge with each contraction he made while rowing the boat.
Trying to clear my mind from the lustful thoughts, I asked, “You said you wanted me only to gain power?”
He looked at me and said, “That was before I even met you, but I am not that person anymore.”
Pushing some more of the same subject, I asked, “How can I be so sure you're not wanting me anymore just for that?”
His look was burning as he said, “Because you changed me for the better. If I wanted you just for the power and strength, I would have killed Alexander that day and not consider your feelings but claim you already the moment my eyes laid on you.”
My cheeks flared red at his words. Whispering, I asked, “C-claim me?”
He stopped rowing the boat, looking at me with such intensity, saying, “I wanted to claim you from the first day we met, but I also wanted you to want me to. If I was my former self, I would have already taken you and mate you and claimed you in a heartbeat, and not force myself to keep control and feel tormented. I know you and Alexander mated and yes it's killing me but what kills me, even more, is the possibility of not having you by my side, in my life.”
“What about Reynard?” I asked, making him growl at the mention of Alexander’s brother's name.
“What about that asshole?” His voice grew dark as he spoke.
“You came here with him together and you attacked Alex and his pack,” I said fiercely, watching him closely.
“If you think I have anything more than that with that asshole then you're wrong. I only used him because I was mad that Alex got to be the one to first get to you and save you from the Dark Fae Lands. Nerissa, I want nothing more but to kill that prick for forcing you to go under all of the things you did. When I learned his true intentions, I locked him down in the pit and only took him with me to lure Alex, and for that, I am sorry little one. When I saw how much it hurt you when we fought, that is when I realized I can’t kill him, not unless I wanted to hurt you as well.”
I looked at him and could see the truth in his eyes and his words. So I said, “I trust you.”
A smile appeared on his face, warming up my heart at the sight of it.
He continued to row the boat and soon enough we got back on the land where we parked the car.
Helping me out of the boat, I took his hand, and immediately I could feel the sparks rush through my entire body just by his touch.
My breathing hitched hearing his low growl, I clenched my legs tightly, trying to ease down the desire that instantly hit me like a train.
“The car is there.” His husky voice reached my ears, making it too hard for me to hold back and not jump into his arms and kiss those sinful lips.
“I-I…” I tried to say something but the images that Bellania was showing to me, urging me to go closer to our mate, while I tried to shake them away and gain control over my senses.
I heard him take a deep breath, making my face turn red as I knew he would know I wanted him if he inhaled deeply.
Watching his eyes flicker from his usual color to dark, I saw him standing there, growling low. He took a step towards me and picked me up bridal style.
“What are you doing?” Breathless, I asked him.
He walked us towards the car and said in a gruff voice, “I better take you back because I don’t want to lose control and do something you may not be ready for or wish yet.”
Before I could say anything, he placed me in the passenger seat and stormed to the driver's seat, starting the car and driving at high speed like we were chased by the night.
“Allister...” I called his name, making his eyes flicker to me, so I continued, “You can slow down.”
I saw his fingers grow white as he clutched down on the steering wheel.
“Allister!” I said louder.
“Bellania is calling for me, and it is better if we go back sooner than later.” He answered gruffly, not taking his eyes off of the road.
I knew my Phoenix was needy and wanted them both; I did as well, but I never expected Allister to show such self-control and resistance to this pull that was electrifying.
Soon enough, driving like in a race car, Alister parked the car and stormed out of the car.
I saw him taking in a deep breath before he opened the car door for me.
For some reason I couldn’t explain, I was feeling annoyed and even disappointed that he was holding off so strongly, yet here I was the one that wished nothing more but to jump him and taste those lips once more… and worse…
The moment he opened the car door for me, he offered his hand to me but feeling annoyed at him and at myself I got out and walked past him, storming straight to the packhouse.
Raking his hand through his hair, he exhaled loudly and rushed after me, calling my name, “Nerissa! Nerissa, stop!”
Not stopping, I walked straight inside the house, heading directly to my room.
Passing by Ryder who looked at me in confusion until noticing Allister running after me, he chuckled, shaking his head, mumbling, “I didn’t see anything.”
Snorting at him, I ignored Ryder and walked ahead.
Grabbing my elbow, I stopped and looked furiously at Allister, saying, “What?”
He looked at me confused, saying, “Why are you mad at me now?”
“Ugh!” Trying to walk past him but he stopped me, I looked at him and said, “What do you think?”
My eyes were golden, making my Phoenix show as his dark pools looked into mine, saying, “You have to understand that I will never force you or do something that you, you Nerissa, not Bellania, you, little one, wouldn’t want me to do.”
Freeing my hand from his hold, I walked past him as he followed me along. We walked in silence until we reached my room.
I turned around and looked at him, saying, “Well… thank you for tonight.
His eyes were flickering from his blue to his dark ones. I watched him close his eyes, trying to regain his control, when he opened them and looked at me, saying, “It was my pleasure, little one.”
We stood there just looking into each other's eyes. The feeling of the pull being so intense, I looked down onto his lips, biting my lower lip as a growl made me look up and into his dark eyes.
“Allister…” my voice sounded breathless as I called his name, hearing his low growls bouncing off the walls around us as he took a step closer, making it even harder to breathe.
“This is your last chance before I won’t be able to stop and devour those sexy lips of yours.” Taking the last step as his body was an inch away from mine, he placed his arm next to my head, leaning his weight on it, making it even harder to breathe.
Thinking about his words, I knew well what I wanted, so I said, “I don’t want you to stop.”
His eyes grew even darker that I couldn’t even imagine it was possible before he lunged forward, wrapping his arms around me and doing what he promised… devouring my lips…
