106. The Rubble.

[Claire]
"The cuffs are too tight, the cuffs are too tight, dear God." I cried as I tried to free myself from my constraints.
The psycho had said that they had come for me, but they didn't know how crazy he and Eve were, I had to go and warn them, I had to warn Luke, I was worried about him despite my own condition, I had to help him, he couldn't face them on his own and if anything were to happen to him, I would die.
I loved him and I didn't want my child to grow up without a father, I wanted my child to have the complete family that I'd been deprived off because of my parent's deciet.
And now two psychopaths were threatening that.
I kept wriggling, trying to pull my hands free from the cuffs, groaning when it cut into my flesh and praying that I would have time to escape before he returned.
"It's free, I'm free." I laughed happily as I pulled one hand free, the hand was covered with blood, scratches and bruises. In my attempt to free my hand, I badly injured it, nearly dislocating my wrist and fracturing my fingers.
Without wasting any more time, I freed my other hand the same way I freed the first and then I began to look around for something to free my legs with.
I pulled my body off the bed and began to search around with my hands till I found a small knife.
Cutting the straps off the cuffs quickly, I got down from the bed, my legs were still cuffed but at least I wasn't cuffed to the bed anymore.
I ran to the door and listened carefully and I relaxed a bit when I heard nothing outside the door, I pressed my ear against the door and felt happy when I didn't hear anything.
The room I was in had no windows and it was just the one door.
I twisted the knob and that was when I let out a heart wrenching cry and dropped to the ground beneath me.
In all my excitement, I had forgotten to check if the door was open and I was still stuck inside the room.
I looked around frantically for a key or something to break the door down with hopefully without making too much noise that would alert my captors.
Tears stressed down my face and I tried not to scream as I felt my one escape window closing gradually before my eyes.
And in my moment of despair, my hand scraped against something on the ground.

[Luke]
"No!" I screamed loudly and launched at Eve but it was already too late, as I knocked her to the ground, I realized that the button had already been pushed.
"What did you do, what have you done?" I screamed at her, pressing her neck tightly. "You've killed me, you've ended my life." And a few seconds later, we were greeted with a loud explosive sound from somewhere in the back of the underground mine.
I wasn't looking at Sir George any more but it seemed like he was about to press his own button but he was quickly sprayed with bullets by the military.
Liam peeled me off Eve quickly and shoved me away from her before I could kill her.
"Let me go, leave me, let me kill her." I screamed like a crazy person. "Claire, Claire, oh Claire." I cried bitterly as I tried to run towards the place that had exploded but I was once again held back.
Sir Hamilton had also dropped to his knees and though he wasn't crying, he was white as a sheet of paper and he looked like life had been sucked out of him.
"My daughter." He cried out in one loud voice before collapsing on the ground.
We heard a loud rumbling sound from the back of the money and the military began to move quickly, I don't know how I moved away from the mine but I felt someone grabbing me by the waste and I Saw Sir Thomas being carried away immediately.
It felt like the world had ended, despite the rapid sounds of gunfire and the collapse of theine, I didn't hear anything.
I was too stunned from my grief to feel anything, I couldn't believe that I had been too late and my woman and child were now gone.
I couldn't believe I'd been too late and I hadn't been able to save them.
The underground mine continued to crumble after the first explosion even though Sir Thomas hadn't pressed the button before he was killed.
When the realization of everything that had just happened set it, I began to wrestle against the person who was carrying me out.
I couldn't leave, I wanted to die, I wanted to die and in no where else but the same place that the love of my life had died.
The person's arms tightened around me in a death grip and soon my insides were getting crushed.
I tried to speak but when I opened my mouth nothing came out.
The military successful carried everyone out of the tunnel and only then was I dropped to the ground.
I struggled to run towards the collapsing structure but I was once again held back and I realized that it had taken four military men to take me outside and keep me from running back.
There was a huge explosion of dust and we looked around as the world came to an end.

"Sir, we checked through the rubble but there was no sign of the body."
"What are you talking about?"
"Your royal highness." He curtsied and spoke again. "There was no body belonging to Claire Hamilton found in the rubble." He confirmed his words.
"So what you're telling me is that she's alive?" I asked, hoping that I was not having one of my many hallucinations.
"That's right sir, she is alive."
For the first time since we returned from our failed attempt at rescuing Claire, I stood up from the corner I'd sat down when we got back.
I couldn't even bring myself to drink away my sorrows, I just let myself feel them and then I began to think of the most painful ways to kill myself because I deserved it for not being able to protect Claire and the baby.
"S-she's alive?" I asked again, my legs shaking as I walked towards Liam.
"Yes, Luke, she's alive." He confirmed and that was when I believed the news.
"Where is she?" I cleaned the tears that poured down from my face as I asked.
"There's a small village a few miles from the mine, our men are there presently checking for her, I'm sure we'll find her soon." The man responded.
"Claire's alive." Tears seeped down my face and then the world turned dark as I fainted.

My body felt very hot, I was having a fever and also had a terrible nightmare. I was chained to some sort of bed then I managed to escape from my captivity.
I ran out of the room where I was kept, with no direction in mind, I can came to an intersection and since there was no time to waste, I just kept running in one direction and then finally I saw the light and I rushed out of the place and discovered that I was being kept underground but then an explosion occurred and caused the earth to rumble, the after effect of the explosion caused a huge rock to hit me at the back of my head and I fell to the ground bleeding from the head.
"She's awake, oh my I cannot believe it." Someone spoke, looking over me, they tapped me with something and then I jerked awake.
"Where am I?" I asked immediately, confusion written all over my place.
What was the last thing I remembered, I tried to rack my brain but I remembered nothing but bits and pieces from my nightmare, it was as if I had no life before now.
"What is your name?" An older woman asked, she was holding a wet cloth and I guess she had been sponging my body to help with the fever.
My name?
"I don't remember." I said and my heart began to beat rapidly. "I don't remember, why don't I remember."
"Calm down, please calm down, you had an injury to the head, it's normal that you can't remember anything now." A boy who looked like he was the woman's son said.
"Yes, you need to calm down, it's a miracle that the baby is still okay." The woman said and I frowned.
"Baby?" I asked.
"Yes." She replied, smiling at me. "You're pregnant."
"What?" I looked down immediately and she wasn't lying, I was indeed pregnant. "Is the child safe?" I asked her and a smile touched my lips.
I couldn't tell why but I was glad about this discovery.
"Where is she?" A tall man pushed through the curtains and entered the room where I was laying down.
"Your royal highness." The woman and her son bowed their heads immediately.
"Claire." He rushed to me immediately and smiled happily.
